Is there an easy and relatively inexpensive way to get the music off a cassette tape and into a digital format? I remember there being a "cassette drive" on thinkgeek many years back but it was like $150 and I can't find it anymore. I don't even know what it would be called to look it up anywhere.

Plug the line out from a decent cassette player into the line in of a decent sound card?

Or if you've got a 3.5mm line out (or adapter to get 3.5mm line out) from your cassette player you could plug that into the line in on your computer and use some software to record it as if its a microphone.

Home recorded versions of radio comedy programmes (such as I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and The Now Show) spring to mind.

(A few months back my Dad spent an awful lot of time transferring tapes to his hard drive and CDs. I think he used a special box or something to deal with noise reduction en route from tape deck to computer)

The http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/digital-conversion/9778/ USB external tape deck (or Maplin code N94CU) is a complete, self-contained unit with little theoretical loss between analogue and digital considering the sound card is built in.

But in essence, yes, the line lead is the cheapest option, provided your tape deck is not noisy. Experiment with the volume control for a bit though to find the best result. Not compatible with mic sockets.

I've made a diagram for my report in Paint (as tacky as it may be the most important thing is that it's clear, which is why I used it). Here's the problem: I need to add some arrowheads and Paint doesn't know them. I tried pasting/opening it into Photoshop but it just made the image extremely blurry. I also tried making an arrowhead in Photoshop and copying it into Paint, but Paint won't allow it.

Got any ideas?

Probably for the same reasons I always loved drawing Super Guy comics. Their lack of detail is part of what makes them so great. It lets the imagination fill in its own details or something. It's remarkable how much emotion you can get out of a figure with no face if you get the body language just right, which is more or less the whole Super Guy philosophy. On another note, I spent the weekend on Aramberri, Nuevo Leon, a small town about 4 and a half hours away from here, where my grandfather owns an orchard that produces pecan nuts and avocado. And apples I think... It's rather large, although I forget the dimensions.
The place is truly wonderful. I was bored as hell tho, but the scenery there is wonderful. It's a shame I forgot my camera. :P

Went there with my grandfather, two of his friends and my brother, mostly to get my brother to go out for a while. He has barely left the house in the past 3 weeks because of his depression. He's doing a lot better now tho, which makes me glad.

DSi will be my next console purchase for sure. As for when I get it, that depends on me finding a new job.

I've treated myself with some baby oil, which will probably help, but now I'm kind of leaving a fine layer of oil on everything I touch. Grunt.

You could try moisturiser. My nose started to get flaky when we decided to turn the heating off over autumn/winter, and moisturiser did the trick.

Also, don't bother with all the expensive stuff. I went into Boots, looked along the shelf and saw all the brands... Nivea, Garnier etc. all about £15 each. Looked along the bottom row and there's some Boots' own for 99p. Does the trick for me! I'm now using it on my elbow as my jacket lining has frayed and kept getting caught on my elbow, now it doesn't.

I find baby oil to do the trick just fine, really. Not too expensive, either.

I know it could be any multiple of pi, but given the nature of the problem it being 0 seems more likely. It's a model for the velocity of a plane on a runway.

We were warned that if we tried this without using Euler's Method, the algebra would get very ugly. Although I do so hate using a numerical method for anything like this.

Erm... not quite. We're modelling a plane decelerating after touchdown. We've been told that initially it's slowed only by air-resistance and then after a period of time, a constant braking force.

So I've said:
Initially: dv/dt = -kv^2
After brakes: dv/dt = -kv^2 - B
I calculated k from the 1st equation, which is much easier to work with.

I realise that it may be more correct of me to say it in terms of force instead of acceleration, but it shouldn't affect my final results since I can say:

m*dv/dt = -Kv^2 - where K = mk
and m*dv/dt = -Kv^2 - b - where b=mB (I havn't thought through cases here...)

Not sure what it's approach speed is. It's speed immediatly after touchdown is 96m/s correct to the nearest integer. It's mass is 120000kg correct to significant figures I'll assume.

Nope, I'd use this formula:

Beta is the ratio of landing weight (ie current weight) to maximum takeoff weight
kL is the ratio of landing speed to stall speed
mu is the braking coefficient
g is gravity at the airport you're landing at
rho is the ambient air density
CLmaxLand is the lift coefficient for landing configuration (ie, full flaps deployed and leading edge slats deployed)
Wto is the takeoff WEIGHT (note, not mass, but weight!)
S is the wing area.

Hmmm that's a bit low... according to Boeing's technical documents the typical landing length for a 747-400 at maximum landing weight (72% Max takeoff weight) is 1905m, while the heavier 747-400ER is 2180m. I don't have the lift coefficient of a 747 with fully deployed flaps & slats to hand so I can't verify that.

A 747 most likely could stop in 1km, but it would probably be landing on fumes without much inside it (its operating empty weight is slightly greater than the max takeoff weight of a 757 though so it'd be pushing it!). And you might have to use full reverse thrust, which isn't taken into account in that formula (certification rules state that thrust reversers cannot be used when calculating braking distance as they are often broken), but I do have another formula which takes TR's into account. And a shedload of other factors.

I've done a hell of a thing and gotten myself a MIDI sequencer, having suddenly been struck with a bit of utterly nerdy inspiration to such an extent that I have pretty much an entire song mapped out in my head. I'm trying to learn how to play the guitar at the minute. I'm not sure whether I'll ever write music but learning how to play an instrument is a fun challenge which presents immediate results. I find it easier to know where I'm going wrong when I play badly than I would if I were learning a new language, for example.

So far I can't play much but it's fun and satisfying nonetheless. :)

It took 20 minutes to get to 'game over' as fast as possible with the fast-drop key setting and a paper-clip stuck into the up arrow button.
A hypnotizing experience...

Things I noticed:
1) No bricks will drop in the four leftmost and four rightmost columns.

The interesting thing is that when I completed the lines the pause option appeared again, with another five minutes in it. I'm guessing that when you complete a line it gives you the option to pause again, but I'm not sure if you need to complete just one or any number up to four, as I did four in a single shot. :P
