Aww!
I had skateboard shaped like the pink one in the mid-1980s.
With awesome neon-color grafitti-like patterns, giant hard plastic wheels (also neon color) and those plastic protectors on the bottom.

That thing brought me a lot of fun, knee and head injuries.
Ah, the memories.

IIRC, I had it until 2002 or 2003 when the plastic protectors broke off and the wood started to go into splinters.

I don't get a thing out of putting effort into my art. My pictures generally get a couple people saying "hey that's cool :)", which usually fail to bring about an interesting or entertaining conversation.
I get greater entertainment from posting stupid art than spending days/weeks on a picture that gets me the same/less amount of attention.

And now that there's barely any awesome people contributing to fan art, there's no one to look up to or respect.
There's nearly no one left, and that's a far bigger problem with the fan-art forum than the "epidemic" of stupid posts. The only reason it seemed the forum was "dying" that one time was because no one was there to offset the dumb posts. Everyone cool either left the forums entirely or stayed holed up somewhere. That sucks.

It would be nice if drawing good pictures was more fun. As it is, doodling constantly in my sketchbook is a better use of my time. It's fun and I learn from it, so that's all I do.

Though I have looked back through my old comics and thought "DAMN I was funny..." or "DAMN that looks good." It really is nice to be able to look at past work, and I want to make my comic again, but just seeing how dull the fan-art forum is takes the passion out of me. (Seriously, how many active threads are there worth looking through? One? Two, maybe? Remember when there used to be, like, 15 threads worth reading?)

(And I put a heck of a lot of effort into that Aqua Teen picture, I'll have you mind. :p)

I deleted that game thread, by the way. I guess it was just too silly.

Why don't you do a different comic elsewhere, and post on a general comicky forum? They tend to be full of nice kinds of people because... well, because there are four webcomics for every person on earth so they can afford to be choosy.

I only realised just recently how good Angelus's art actually is. It's terrific stuff.

Maybe to spice things up a bit we should all work on a forum comic. I don't mean like "Battle Royale", but maybe in some other way. Perhaps we could all pitch in with making a story and someone could draw it or something.

I think we need to create something that we can all get involved in and enjoy. Any ideas?

not always helpful. my forum comics were praised by pretty much everyone, and looking back on them, I had maybe 10 good jokes in 130 comics.

To be fair, Scott Adams says that one in five good comics is "a good week" for him. But he also says that he's a hologram simulation, evolution will be disproved in his lifetime and humans have no free will, so perhaps we shouldn't listen to his opinions.

Akuryou13

Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell welcomed the news about Dumbledore and said: "It's good that children's literature includes the reality of gay people, since we exist in every society.

"But I am disappointed that she did not make Dumbledore's sexuality explicit in the Harry Potter book. Making it obvious would have sent a much more powerful message of understanding and acceptance."

Though, it didn't matter. That's what gay rights is all about, isn't it? Not mattering whether someone's gay or not?

I can't freakin find it.
Which is not made easier by the fact that we have a ****load of boxes with stuff everywhere and it's probably in one of those.
And I really want it to install the copy of Half-Life Source that comes with it.

edit: Nevermind, just found it. :p
Thing is, I was looking for a larger dvd box, but it in fact came in a standard transparent cd case.

Heh I still remember, I asked for this copy to my aunts when they went to the US shortly after HL2 was released, mainly because it had HL:S and came in a kewl metal cookie box. But my aunts threw the metal box away.
Hahahahaa.
Ha.

edit2: It's downloading it from the net instead of installing it from the dvd... and I can't figure out how to tell it to install it from the dvd. The installation thing that launches from the dvd doesn't have the option to install HL:S... the hell?
Whatever... 1 hour to go... -__-

edit3: And now, it doesn't work. It stays at 97%, I can launch the game but it just freezes.

Well, if I stumbled upon a red ERROR thing, I would be like: Oh look, an error.
But if it's dancing... then it's got to be bad.

Altough, turns out they are the coakroaches. Apparently it cannot load the model and instead loads that "ERROR" model. I figured this out because I noticed I could step on them and they would dissapear and leave a squishy decal on the ground.

Anyway, I so have to get me some recording software so that I can show you all how trully destroyed is the gameplay experience with all this bugs. Particularly because of the disabled AI.

For the record, the current title for this thread is based on this post: http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=618297&postcount=764

Specifically the line:
Rockstar said the game play time... 6 months constant MINIMUM...

Andrew posted this gem of mathematics and logic in the mod forum - hope he doesn't mind me posting it here to illustrate the stupidity of the above-quoted post:

Someone's really going to make a 4300-hour game. That's smart. If you test it 8 hours a day it'll take at least a year and a half to get through it, and if you play it two hours a day then it'll last you six years. You'll skip out a generation of consoles and never need to own a Rockstar game again.

How well does Leopard run on that kit?

I got Tiger to run on a 500MHz G3 iBook with 384Mb RAM - and it ran pretty well. Certainly much better than I expected it to. I don't know why, but I don't have much faith that Leopard will run as well as Tiger on my PowerBook (1.5GHz G4, 1Gb RAM). Looking at screnshots, etc, I'm not actually as impressed with Leopard as I was with Tiger when it was announced/released

You know, it's interesting - of all the features in OS X that were not present in OS 9, I think the two that I use the most are Exposé and the command-tab interface - both introduced in Panther. I rarely use Tiger features like Dashboard and Spotlight, and I never use Automator. I mean, they're all nice things, but they get far less practical use.

I think practical additions like Spaces, the new Finder, and Quick Look are going to be a lot more helpful, and will make it worth the upgrade for usability alone.

I use spotlight all the time in Tiger! I probably use it as much as I use the dock.

Spaces, I can't really see much of a use for - quicklook & coverflow are the only things that make me want to upgrade to Leopard. The new Finder really doesn't do much to win me over - I hate the new folder icons and at the moment, I prefer the look of the Tiger sidebar, compared to the Leopard/iTunes sidebar.

Hey kid what’s that sound?
It’s Uncle Jonny, knocking on his coffin ten feet underground,
He don’t ask for much he’s fairly sound,
Quiet respectable life, living with the worms all around,
Hey kid where you been?
Words without pictures do you know what they mean?
We’re all running around locked up in a dream,
These words, I can’t quite understand what they mean,
Hey Kid you’re a respectable son,
Why don’t you fetch us a gun,
So I can shoot down those people that keep troubling you,
Trouble is, we live with what we cannot do,

Your mother’s in the kitchen slaving all day,
Daddy’s in the basement making his way,
You’re on the roof without a care,
Throwing your baseball up in the air,
Inaccurate throw,
Your ball now ends up ten feet below,
Sadly misplaced but luckily caught by the face,
Of the mailman unsuspectingly unknown,

It's every cliché item of every superhero/power/alien/whatever movie used to the extreme. It sucks all the fun out of the powers. Which aren't even used most of the time. And when they do it's purely for drama motives. And everyone seems to love Hiro just for comedy relief which of course means he's the big time hero hell yeah because nothing more original than the silliest guy finding out he has to save the world.

No wonder regular superheroes are all lonely and isolated. They wouldn't be able to get anything done otherwise.

I'm not sure whether to buy this or not

On one hand it is a two-disc compilation of exclusive tracks some of the best bands ever with a bunch of other bands I have never heard of

On the other hand it's $30 and has a really stupid name

edit: and the sample of the track by Liars is a huge dissapointment

Hmm. That's interesting: the Berlin Wall came down on the 9th of November 1989. I already knew the year, but not the day or month.

It's interesting because it contracts down to 9/11 (European dating system). And I was thinking before I found this out that these two events - the fall of the Berlin Wall and the fall of the Twin Towers - sort of bookended the Nineties, defining how it started and ended much better than arbitrary dates. The Nineties were sort of the calm between the storms of the Cold War and the "War on Terror".

I just think that it would make an interesting book title. "From 9/11 to 9/11 - A History of the Nineties, from the Fall of the Berlin Wall to the Fall of the Twin Towers"

Paul.Power
11 Nov 2007, 23:02
Paul.Power says:
LotR: Okay, there's this evil guy who had this awesome ring thing, but then he lost it and it sort of passed into obscurity. But it's like an evil ring, and anyone who gets it gets corrupted, so they have to destroy it. Awkwardly, there's only one place where you *can* destroy it, and it's right next door to where the evil guy lives.
Paul.Power says:
So an unlikely interracial coalition gets sent off with this one hobbit guy (see subsection E: Recognising the Races of hellswhat'stheplacecalled) who volunteered to carry the evil ring because, I dunno, he's a bit stupid or something
Paul.Power says:
**** happens courtesy of this other evil dude who who used to be a good dude until the first evil dude corrupted him, and now he's trying to start an industrial revolution
Paul.Power says:
With orcs.
Paul.Power says:
So yes, lots of dwarfs get slaughtered, awesome wizard dude apparantly dies, the aforementioned unlikely interracial coalition gets split up, this one hobbit guy goes off to destroy the ring with only his gardener for company. End of Part One
Hope says:
Hehehehe...
Paul.Power says:
Middle Earth, that was it
Paul.Power says:
Part 2: Our party is split in four, viz. people carried off by Orcs, people with the ring thing, dead people and another unlikely interracial coalition that's sort of the main party in miniature
Paul.Power says:
The people carried off by orcs (who incidentally are also hobbits) escape because orcs are incompetent, despite being the future according to that evil dude (not the first one, the other one).
Paul.Power says:
They then end up meeting people who look like walking, talking trees but aren't, in the same way that sheepdogs aren't sheep. After much humourous and slow-paced banter, they go and trash Evil Dude 2's proto-industrial base of operations
Hope says:
Lmao.... This makes my planning look good
Paul.Power says:
Unlikely interrational coalition in microcosm attempts to track the people carried off by orcs, but only succeed in finding the awesome wizard who's supposed to be dead. Fortunately he didn't die and instead found a really good laundry. They go off and do stuff like make some random king less old and have an awesome siege type
Paul.Power says:
*siege-type battle
Paul.Power says:
Meanwhile, the two guys with the ring meet up with someone who used to have the ring, and much good it did him </sarcasm>. After a fair degree of general hostility, something happens and they get on a bit better (although the gardener is still a bit suspicious).
Paul.Power says:
Guy who used to have the ring decides to act as a guide and saves their lives a few times, but unfortunately they get captured by a bunch of arrogant fools who for some reason don't get on with the people who had that really old king who isn't really old any more and that really cool siege stronghold.
Paul.Power says:
Anyway, long story short the guy who used to have the ring doesn't like them any more, and leads them into a spider trap thing. End of Part 2
Paul.Power says:
Part 3:Those two hobbits who trashed Evil Dude 2's pad meet up with "Unlikely interrational coalition in microcosm plus awesome wizard" and they all go to the land of the arrogant fools, where **** promptly happens
Paul.Power says:
Because this time they're facing Evil Dude 1's army, and he's a bit more competent and a bit less camp. And he has catapults.
Paul.Power says:
The arrogant fools are led by an even more arrogant fool who hates one of his sons and tries to burn him alive, but then sets himself on fire and jumps off a big cliff, which is good fun
Paul.Power says:
Meanwhile, the guys with the ring fight a big spider and win. Whee.
Paul.Power says:
Somehow all the guys in Arrogant Fool Land survive, mostly by calling for the other guys that they don't like. Everyone then goes off for a bit barney with Evil Dude 1 to distract him so the guys with the ring can go and get the damn thing destroyed and end the whole thing already
Hope says:

Paul.Power says:
Now the guy with the ring, for some reason, is having inordinate trouble throwing the damn thing into the volcano. Fortunately, that guy from earlier who used to have the ring (and much good it did him </sarcasm>) nicks the ring from him but then falls in himself.
Paul.Power says:
Yay, we won! Now for a long, boring denoument where we tie up an unfeasible number of loose ends (and then in the book the hometown of those hobbit guys gets trashed by Evil Dude 2 in revenge, but then they go and sort him out properly).
Paul.Power says:
Also, the human from the unlikely interrational coalition in microcosm turns out to be the king of Arrogant Fool Land, which is good because he *isn't* an arrogant fool.
Paul.Power says:
Also, ghosts.
Paul.Power says:
Also, women doing things like giving up immortality and performing an amusing variation on the plot twist of Macbeth.
Paul.Power says:
(not the same woman)
Paul.Power says:
Also, Tom Bombadil, who is deadly dull
Paul.Power says:
Also, dwarf tossing

Obviously it's because computer programmes can read. But they're not great at it so you have to throw in a bunch of extra stuff to confuse them. Examples: http://www.apathysketchpad.com/blog/2007/06/05/how-to-crack-captchas/

Problem is that they also exclude blind people. All the work you do making an accessible site is undone the moment you add a captcha. Unless you use my system, of course (http://www.apathysketchpad.com/blog/my-spam-protection/) which is much better, at least until everyone else starts using it when it will stop working.

But it's fun listening to something unexpected on the radio.

I remember I used to have a medley someone made of Joe Satriani songs, that I got from kazaa or something ages ago... and I once heard an ad on the radio for this place that buys/sells used cars, and they had that same medley playing in the background for the commercial... That was rather bizarre.

Idunno, I mean, I've heard nothing about it except from people I talk to on the internet, and I suspect that talking to people on the internet is a minority pursuit.

I assume it's being advertised through Steam, which probably helps, though.
