Chapter One: Hugh Valleroy meets Klyd Farris ambrov Zeor for the first time and sets out to rescue the woman he loves, Aisha Rauf.

Chapter Two: Valleroy discovers what a Householding is and attends a Changeover party. Klyd discovers Valleroy is an artist.

Chapter Three: Zeor's spies search for the missing woman while Valleroy creates a new fabric design for the Arensti Competition and frets. Klyd arranges for Valleroy to travel with him as his Companion, and they set out to rescue Aisha Rauf.

Huh...

I just kinda liked it when everyone on the internet thought that all you had to do to cause a seizure was to make a lot of flashing rainbows.

Now everyone knows about the real way to do it, and that blissful ignorance is no more.

Probably a one day suspension, judging by how yesterday during a group meeting thing he did said that he had decided that skipping work would equal a suspension unless we have a very good reason(mainly because almost everyone in the group skipped work at least once during last month, with not much reasons other than "I was lazy.")(Make that twice for me :p).
And I don't think "because I was going late" is going to be that good of a reason. :p

Also, tomorrow my brother is having a going-away party. Quite far away from home. At night. Which will probably last until really late. Tomorrow is my day off, BUT I do have to go to work on monday, which if I go to this party will be rather hard to accomplish, at least in a state where I can make sense when talking...
I do have this free day off that I earnt for going to work on a holiday, which I can use whenever I want as long as I tell my supervisor at least 2 days before, so I technically could have called in today and have him set it on monday, to be able to assist to my brother's party... BUT, seriously... "Hey dude, what's up? Yeah I kinda skipped work today because I was going late... but anyway, I just wanted to set monday as my free day off, 'kay?" Yeah, not a good idea. :p

THE PLOT THICKENS.

The scent of men's bodywash cannot be discerned from the packaging. It's true: these are some of the "fragrences" that my various brands have used: Wild Rain, Africa, Alpine Snow, Arctic Ice, Cool Wave, Ice Dive, Waterfall, and Gravity.

How are you meant to know what it smells of?I would suggest the following steps for each of those scents in order:

1. go out and find a rain in its natural habitat and sniff it. (beware not to approach its nest)
2. go to every part of africa and create an average of each smell present there.
3. go to the alpines and shove your face into the snow, then inhale.
4. fly to the north pole and shove your face into a glacier, then inhale. (don't disturb the natural odor with an ice pick)
5. while at the north pole, dunk your head into the water surrounding a glacier and get a good whiff.
6. on your trip back from the north pole, hurl a chunk of the glacier you shoved your face into out of the plane and dive down after it. while in mid dive, sniff the ice.
7. go find the largest waterfall you can find and stick only your head into it
8. while falling in step 6, block your face entirely from the wind with a completely odorless object and inhale.

Wow, must buy one and learn how to play it. well typically I just open the bottle and squirt a little on my hand, but if there's a correct, professional method for this procedure please let me know so that I may adapt it.

I presume it comes from "glucose".

"Hey guys, the game's called football. What should we do? I know, I'll pick the ball up and run with it!"To be scrupulously fair, this also happens in rugby"football" union, rugby "football" league, Australian Rules "football" and Gaelic "football".

So I went to that party I mentioned, just got home from it.
My brother stayed there, I would have stayed there longer too, but I really can't be late tomorrow... er, today. To work.
It was EPIC. And I'll get my hands on that video of my brother dancing like a moron with pretty much everyone.
I drank like seven beers and some thing someone prepared that I don't really know what it contained... but still I think I'm not drunk... And we had turkey(from a cousin's party that was earlier) and um, sheep, which was prepared at the party. Really tasty.
There's also probably a video of me now dancing and singing with my brother, but that was only because I promised him that if he did the "motorcycle"(you don't wanna know) I would sing with him, not because I was drunk. Altough the alcohol did help. :p
Work is going to be fun today. :p

Edit: I must concede tho, that I'm as close to being drunk as I have ever been, and that I did make a ton of spelling mistakes making this post, that I corrected.
I know correcting them is cheating, but it's the only way I could make sense, trust me. :p

Hell, I had this all kinds of wrong.

I'd assumed "gator" referred to a sodding gator, then assumed it was a cartoon one who adorned the bottle, therefore I'd assumed it was some kind of sugary pop, or as the Americans insist on calling it, "soda", despite plainly containing no sodium to speak of.

I mean, I wouldn't have said any of that -- it was only ever an assumption to be used until some actual information presented itself; hardly something I should be basing decision on -- but still...

So I was on my way to work on... Some day this past week, there's fresh snowfall which has made the roads pretty slushy and trecherous, and there's a huge wreck up ahead that blocks off the whole damn road both ways. Inconvenient considering I'm already running late and will now have to take a huge detour, but yeah, there you have it. I go to turn the car around. The car's around. The back end keeps going. Uh-oh. Couple of wheel turns or so to the right. Now I'm swinging the other way. Easy to the left. There we go, back wheels are behind me and I'm ready to proceed safely in a straight line.

See? Excellent time to have been a gamer my whole life. Had I not spent so much time playing FlatOut 2, I most likely would have spun right the hell out, with what could have been quite disastrous consequences.

So, I suppose I'd better figure out a course of action soon. First and most obvious option that everybody seems to want me to do is to put all the old Ground Zero comics up on DeviantART, which I don't like because it would be a mammoth pain in the ass to do, and because there would be no really good way to organize them.

Option 2 is one that I've been slowly toying with in my mind -- put them in a subsection of a new website dedicated to all of my stuff. I note that www.zeor.us seems to be open.

A short while ago DA allowed you to sort your art into folders. Take a look at Paul's Gallery and you'll see what I mean. OK, so it doesn't allow sub-folders, but you could move the ground zero stuff into it's own folder and remove them from the "main" gallery screen.

Global warming seems to have split everyone into two groups of people.

A) The ignorant. "Global warming is a LIE it totally snowed yesterday and that totally proves that it isn't real, and there's some scientific study by some scientist somewhere that says it's a hoax, so it is because IT'S SCIENCE!!!"
B) The optimistic. "Global warming is REAL! What a terrible thing! I know! I'll recycle, turn the lights off when I leave the house, buy an electric car, go to pro-Earth concerts, support pro-Earth race cars, and support politicians who make bills that promise to reduce emissions by 5% by the year 2020! By doing all of this, I will SAVE THE WORLD!!!"

And neither one of them will have any effect.
I don't have anything against anyone who wants to reduce the human footprint on the world; that's a good thing. What I don't like is how they seem to think that if enough people do this, it will somehow heal up the hole in the ozone and disperse the greenhouse gasses.
Global warming is happening, whether you like it or not. Actually PREPARING for the mass floods and refugees is probably the best course of action, but I haven't seen anyone in power who seems to think this way.

I have just had a Really Big Idea.

Observations:

I. Las Vegas is one of the world's biggest consumers of electricity.

II. Nevada is (to a first approximation) a big hot boring desert (only 70 towns in an area the size of the British Isles, which have around 40,000).

III. Casinos make a ton of money and don't give much back to society.

Plan:

For a period of, say, a month, get all of Las Vegas' casino owners to pledge their profits towards building a bucketload of solar panels in Nevada, with the aim of cancelling out their electricity consumption. It would undeniably be good publicity for the casinos, it might even make the punters more charitable.

The main problem, of course, is that solar panels work during the day and the casinos blaze away in the night. But connect it all to America's National Grid and that's not a problem. The casinos won't be powering themselves literally, but it's good enough.

I don't know for certain as I haven't researched, but I can't imagine that being powered by oil, so perhaps they've come up with an alternative.

And what if we aren't solely responsible for causing it? Does that still change the fact that the earth is getting hotter? And what do you mean we can't be solely responsible for fixing it...are we just going to wait and hope for the earth to fix itself?

And what do you mean we can't be solely responsible for fixing it...are we just going to wait and hope for the earth to fix itself?no no no, read my first post, I'm saying that the earth is still getting hotter regardless of whether or not we caused it so the point was rather moot in that extent. as for the thing about us fixing it, I more meant that there's not really much we can do. the earth will fix itsself eventually, it's just whether or not anything ON the planet survives through that fixing stage. not much we can do if that's the case. now, granted, it COULD be us and the problem could be fixed by cars that produce oxygen and thereby fix the environment rather than damage it and what-not, and we should strive toward that goal of those sorts of technology just in case. I'm just saying I see it far more likely that the earth is just in a warming trend and there's absolutely **** we can do about it other than hope we live through it :p

With billions of people on this planet...it doesn't seem all that hard for me to believe we have caused so much damage in such a small space of time :-/I dunno, I mean the earth is rather gigantic. I think we've gone way beyond the point of pointing fingers around. ****'s gonna happen, it's as clear as that, and it doesn't matter why. When a volcano's gonna hit you don't sit around going "well it's clearly the nature's fault so I'm just gonna sit here, do nothing and melt!". Sure the nature's had its way and nothing's stopped it for billions of years, but that doesn't mean it's good. All the previous ice ages resulted in the extinction of tons of species that couldn't handle it. The same could happen to us if we act just as irrationally.

In my opinion, there's two things we need to do. We need to both try to prevent disaster (or at least reduce it) and (since it's probably inevitable) get prepared for it. Sure we can stop it and do all the ecological mumbo-jumbo of reducing pollution, using reneweable resources, etc, etc. But what if we still get hopelessly flooded? We need to reinforce coastal areas, come up with alternate ways of living, etc, etc. I know it's pretty extreme, but do you really expect everything to just solve itself?

AndrewTaylor
14 Dec 2007, 17:32
Clearly the climate changes without humans. Clearly humans change the climate. The only questions are the relative sizes of those effects and whether we can stop them.

To be frank, even if we're not causing much of the currently observed climate change (which patently we are), we can still influence it and if reducing emissions will reduce the entirely natural climate change then it's just as important that we do so as it would be to reduce man-made changes. The changes still result in our being dead, regardless of their cause.

Star Worms
14 Dec 2007, 19:49
I have no doubt that climate change is happening, but I'm doubtful whether it's carbon dioxide causing it. Water vapour is by far the greatest greenhouse gas on our planet, and the concentration of CO2 at 380ppm just seems far too low to make any significant difference.

AndrewTaylor
14 Dec 2007, 20:01
Yes, but the surface of the planet isn't mostly covered with liquid CO2 (for two very good reasons), and CO2 doesn't foms clouds and drop out of the sky, so I think the amount of water in the atmosphere is far more a self-regulating constant.

They probably still make the polymers out of oil. Natural plastics aren't quite up to par yet. And that they're biodegradable is a good thing for knives and forks, we don't want our computer plastics biodegrading while we're still using them. There's a place nearby which uses biodegradable knives and forks made from cornstarch, but they're quite weak and I break a few forks with every meal. Packing peanuts made from rice, on the other hand, are actually really good at doing what they do.

And for anyone who thinks recycling can't make a difference - http://www.epa.gov/epaoswer/non-hw/muncpl/faq.htm

A few points of special interest:
Recycling aluminum cans, for example, saves 95 percent of the energy required to make the same amount of aluminum from its virgin source, bauxite.

In 2000, recycling resulted in an annual energy savings of at least 660 trillion BTUs, which equals the amount of energy used in 6 million households annually. In 2005, recycling is conservatively projected to save 900 trillion BTUs, equal to the annual energy use of 9 million households.

Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in wood in a process called "carbon sequestration." Waste prevention and recycling paper products allows more trees to remain standing in the forest, where they can continue to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The item most frequently encountered in MSW landfills is plain old paper—on average, it accounts for more than 40 percent of a landfill's contents. This proportion has held steady for decades and in some landfills has actually risen. Newspapers alone can take up as much as 13 percent of the space in US landfills.

At uni there aren't nearly enough recycling bins, so nearly everyone just throws their bottles and cans away, miserably. At this park near where I live, every trash can has a built in recycling bin - both are one attached unit. Now if all public trash cans had recycling counterparts, there would be diddly squat reason for anyone to not recycle anything. And then the city can claim the 5 cent CRV incentive for recycling each of these bottles/cans, probably turning a profit. Unless only private parties/individuals could reclaim that, which would be really quite stupid and is hopefully not the case.

In my hometown the municipal reycling only takes #1 and 2 plastics, and you have to throw away all other numbers... Fortunately most things are 1 and 2, but still.

On campus at uni the few scattered bins there are only accept the same 1 and 2, however in the dorm buildings we can recycle plastic of any resin code. And we just recently were given individual recycling bins for the rooms, so people have actually been pretty good about recycling, although you still get the occasional person who puts their trash bin in the recycling bin to save space and doesn't recycle. But the actual on-campus bins suck and are very badly placed...

Nevada and Casinos and Solar Panels

That's actually a good idea. I heard somewhere that to power our country off of solar power we would need to cover an area roughly the size of Kansas. Nevada is quite bigger than Kansas. But I've also pondered about how much energy we could get by putting solar panels on all of our rooftops. It's not like we have anything better to do with our roofs than put solar panels on them anyways - it's entirely unused space. And honestly, I really like the look of solar panel roofs, although some people don't.

You know, sometimes I think all sci-fi that deals with the terrible future where human beings are scattered across space in hundreds of colonised worlds, forced to leave our home planet due to war or total environmental disaster won't be too far from the truth.

where do you live? my city (and i thought most other cities as well) has a really great municipal recycling serviceI live in louisiana. louisiana is ranked 48-50th in all things related to good policies and programs related to anything, and 1-5 in all policies and programs related to anything bad. you can seriously go look up a listing of which state is the best/worst for any random thing, and louisiana will be at the top of every worst list, and bottom of every best list.

Lucky you. In my hometown they don't recycle plastic at all.

We do here.

We have a green bin and a black bin, and all PET, paper, card, and so forth goes in the green bin, and the rest goes in the black bin, and then every week or two the Council collect both bins, tip the contents into a truck, landfill the lot together, and then dump the empty bins on the street, whence we pick them up and use them again the following week.

The bins are made of plastic.

The odd thing is, our council won't take cardboard. Paper, cans and bottles only, really.

So a lot of our cardboard (plus many of my used tissues) goes on our compost heap, where it helps to preserve the carbon-nitrogen balance.

We take our recycling fairly seriously. There's this things all over the country for all your separating needs:

(kid not included)

And if all the pamphlets, tv ads, official website and common sense aren't enough to make you figure it out, even the package labels indicate where they go.

The poor thing. He looks half human, half Doogle from The Magic Roundabout. He must be confused.

I can see how that might be confusing.
