We have the best chippie in the world in Leeds. Woodsley Road Fish And Chip Shop. £2.65 for a good sized fish and chips. Good fish. Good chips. Friendly staff. Almost illegally cheap chicken and chips. Shop-price 800ml or 1.5l cola - and proper Coca-Cola at that. Also do an excellent spicy fish. And they have a habit of giving out free food sometimes. Also they do pizza and special offers and things.

It's great!

damn it AT. You've got a good chipper near your house.

The best chipper I've ever been to was a place in Kinnegad, which is about an hour out of Dublin. The next-best was from a Galway chipper. And then, in a very close third, come Leo Burdock's here in Dublin, near Christchurch Cathedral and St. Patrick's Church.

Because before that nobody cared what nationality their fries were, obviously.

It's stupid anyway, because they're not French. And they're not fries - they're plainly chips.

But we call what you call crisps chips.

AndrewTaylor
22 Aug 2004, 17:30
Yes, but they're plainly not chips. Those are crisps. They're crisp, for a start. If you chip bits off a potato it doesn't fall into thin, crinkle-cut slices, does it?

What it boils down to is this: You can't have "fish and fries" because it sounds stupid.

Edit: I don't feel as strongly about this as comes across in this post. I'm just sayin' is all.

SargeMcCluck
26 Aug 2004, 01:24
I got electricuted by a faulty 550W PSU. Not as bad as a many volts transformer, but still nasty - The current was high enough that the fuse blew (literally, there was fire), and theres a huge black spot on the plug socket from where the fuse blew. In the literal, blowing up, sense.

The fuse inside the PSU blew up too, with more flames. Hooray!

I never used to be a big fan of spaghetti, but lately it seems I've been acquiring a taste for it. My mom and dad both make their own sauces, and I like them both-- just a little on the spicy side and with a little bit of tang, just how I like it. My mom puts hamburger in the sauce, which is good in itself, but my dad has taken to using these big chunks of sausage. Now THAT's man food.

BUBBLES ARE COOL THEY'RE ALL ROUND AND STUFF NOT SQUARE OR ANYTHING I WONDER WHAT'S UP WITH THATWell, it's like this.

A bubble contains a fixed volume of air. The soapy-water-film-thingy that surrounds this air is under tension, storing elastic potential energy, and in accordance with one of the most basic laws of physics, it will attempt to minimise this potential energy. In this case, the potential energy is linked to the surface area of the bubble. For a given volume, the shape with the smallest surface area (and thus smallest potential energy) is a sphere. Hence, bubbles are roughly spherical.

The "roughly", incidentally, comes from other factors such as gravity and wind, which oppose their own constraints on the distribution of the potential energy.

I think it's more than that. I hear they tried it once - someone being executed kept mouthing the same thing over and over again. He stopped (I think) after about thirty seconds, and probably died shortly after that. But think about it, what kills you when your body is removed? The blood stops flowing, so you don't get any more oxygen is the answer. In theory you have until you deplete the oxygen in the blood that is there - how long that takes is very variable, on such things as the amount of oxygen, your metabolism, how hard you think, what percentage of the brain you use (:p)...

Remember that bit in the Poseidon Adventure where they have to swim under that long bit of stuff, and they take all those deep breaths? How many of you have watched the Poseidon Adventure, anyway?

Duke Nukem Forever being held back because of military stuff?

From Gamespot: "RUMOR #3:: The real reason that Duke Nukem Forever keeps getting delayed is because it is actually a secret project for the US military.

Source: A severely grammatically-challenged post on the File Rush forums.

The official story: "What's there to comment on?" – George Broussard.

What we heard: The post tells the following tale: An unspecified branch of the US government, together with the British government, approached 3D Realms in 1996, asking George Broussard and team to design "the most interactive and atmospheric game to be made ever in history" based on the alien landing at Roswell; to be granted access to the real information about Area 51, the 3D Realms staff all signed the biggest NDA ever.

The reason for the game's existence is to get America ready for any possible alien landings, so that when little gray men really do land on the White House lawn, we'll all be prepared for them, having played Duke Nukem Forever. But the game needs to be perfect before it gets released, hence all the delays.

Bogus or not bogus?: Considering that Broussard would be quietly assassinated by the Men In Black if he said anything, we can't rely on his comment. We're going with Bogus, but only because we don't want the Secret Service knocking on our doors. Now pardon us while we stock up on bottled water."

double post edit:

Well, that was... quite something. *edits sound* *listens to slowed-down version* Hm, didn't think your voice sounded like that.
It doesn't.

Fasten your seatbelts and tie your shoelaces!

double post edit:

I am carrying a donkey! It's almost like watching a snail!

I am licking a potato! It's almost like recording my spine!

I am pouring cocoa into my eye socket! It's almost orgasmic!

I am throwing fingernails on my monitor! It's almost like throwing toenails in the toilet!

I am sitting on a pumpkin! It's almost like drinking tea!

I have potatoes in my pockets!

I am talking to the wall! It's like talking to my grandma!

I just shat on the floor! It was like sniffing asphalt!

I am scanning my elbow! It's throwing scissors at another person's crotch!

I am eating a rabbit's spleen! It's like opening a can with my eye!

I am having my mouth rasterized! It's like chewing carpets!

I am a revolutionary hot dog!
