it depends on your animation settings, you need to go in there and tweak it so that objects appear one at a time and you can also choose the order

i'm not very good at explaining it, but there is a panel that says "animation settings" or something if you right-click an object

CB Series Final, 1st game of 3.

Australia 252ao (48.3ovs) (Hayden 82, Ponting 75, Flintoff 3-41 off 9.3ovs)
England 253-6 (49.3ovs) (Collingwood 120no, Bell 65, Lee 3-41 off 10ovs)

Bloody hell, we beat 'em again... pinch me, someone.

This makes me wonder what they called these things before Rube Goldberg made his cartoons. They're called Heath Robinson contraptions this side of the pond. And he was born before Goldberg.

So there you go :p.

Anyway:

CB Series second final

England 246-8 (50ovs) (Collingwood 70, Loye 45, Bracken 2-38 off 10)
Australia 152-8 (27ovs) (Hodge 49, Plunkett 3-43 off 6, Collingwood 3-26 off 4)

England win by 34 runs (D/L method), and win the CB Series finals 2-0.

Bloody hell, the steal of the century. After being whitewashed in the Ashes 5-0 by Australia and losing five of their first six pool games, England won their last two pool games to edge out New Zealand and then beat Australia in the final 2-0. It doesn't make up for the whitewash, but it restores a good deal of confidence, ends the tour on a high, marks our first major overseas tournament win for a decade and sets us up nicely for the World Cup. It may only be one-day cricket, but frankly I'd cheer if we beat Australia at tiddleywinks.

I met all three about a month back.

But I only found out when I asked her out that she'd only been all three for about six hours (four of which she'd spent chatting to me) and wasn't really ready to go back to just being two just yet.

First, you can talk about what you like in this thread, remember.

Second, it's not quite exhaustive. Watch:

Attractive
Good personality
Single
Interested in you

Pick three

(Edit: I'm being pestered by a two at the minute (a 3+4) -- and then there's Jo, for whom we really need to add "Not messed up" and make it "pick four". But then, Claire's still a two under that scheme.)

Not messed up

Pick five

"Has common interests" may come under 2 and 4, but I feel it warrants a separate category.

I have met one person who had all six of these. Unfortunately, she didn't think she had enough of 6. Actually, let's add two more:

Doesn't think you're too good for them (WHAT?)
Doesn't think it's a bad thing that you're both going off to Unis at opposite ends of the country (Cambridge and Camarthen)

And of course, 3 no longer applies (nor 4, at least not in that sense) and she's currently living in Austria (only for the year, but still). And, to be frank, although I'm "over it" in the sense of... well, you know... I haven't quite been the same since.

Heh, we've done a bit about these "formulae" on our course. Whether they're a good thing or not depends on whether you want to communicate science accurately to the public, or whether you want your message to be inspirational.

And the trouble with Ben Goldacre is he's a bit of a hypocrite: he's one of these MDs who thinks that a PhD isn't worth anything (even if it's in something like biochemistry and the PhD probably knows more about medicines than he does).

They may, but it wouldn't be because they have a PhD, would it? Gillian McKieth has a PhD, technically.

What the hell is "inspirational" about a line of arbitrary symbols that tell nerds how to make tea, usually wrongly?

Imagine if you lived your life like an adventure game.

Whenever you came to a location you had never been before, you would examine everything closely. If there were any closed cabinets or desk drawers, you'd have to open them and look at everything that might be inside. If you came across a dumpster, you'd hop right in and start examining everything.

Anything that was not bolted down, you'd grab it. You'd be some bizarre kleptomaniac. If there was gum on the bottom of a bus seat, you'd want it. And when you had more objects than you could carry (picture that scene with Steve Martin from The Jerk) you would deposit them all in some safe room. (Granted my apartment currently looks like it has been filled with randomly collected objects.)

Whenever there was a problem that had you stumped, you would wander around all of the locations you'd already been to and reexamine them.

If there was a locked door, you would just assume that you needed to get to the other side of it. And you'd try any inane solution. You'd go back to your apartment and get the jar of acid you stored there, then go back to the door and pour the acid on the padlock. Somebody would see you and call the cops. When they arrived you'd be sure to EXAMINE POLICEMEN. Then you might try to GO NORTH, but the policeman would stop your progress. Then you might THROW ACID AT POLICEMAN, but the policeman would sidestep your attack and subdue you.

Then you would go to jail and your actions would mainly be limited to taking INVENTORY and Z and SLEEP, but you would assume that you could escape the prison if you had just remembered to bring some object along with you.

Ban adventure games--they promote an unrealistic worldview.

Also, Gazebo (http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lorch/humor/gazebo.html).

All from a rather nice collection of funny things (http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lorch/humor/).

Actually self-destuct is Ctrl-K. ;)

In TA you couldn't drag out rows of buildings to be built, neither could you move waypoints on the fly. That is, if you wanted to make a change you had to redo all the waypoints that factory/unit had. Where you tell transports to act as a ferry betwhen two points, so if automaticly moves units there and returns afterwords.. you can even tell a factory to send it's newly built units straight to that ferry point. Much win.

But sure, the step from TA to SupCom is signifigantly smaller than any other game to SupCom.

"we don't know why they decided to act out on the birds of america" said the pawn of OGO***DS' department of information, "but we are already discovering that this is a minor decoy for we have found large huts in the tribe, which we believe are being used to store weapons of mass destruction".

I'm a little surprised that Iguana took his Weekend Webbery so gracefully.
I got this PM from him:

First of all I don't mind people pointing out my stupidity; it can be pretty constructive. However, I just fail to see why a thread pointing out one of the game's faults could get even close to all the other pathetic threads posted there (a great deal of which discuss vampire/werewolf sex, sim's sexual habits, starting Myspace pages for Sims characters and other... 'special' things).

I didn't even lurk the forum before posting, so I was completely oblivious of its idiotic userbase. Hell, I just tried the (admittedly horrible) game, noticed a few bugs and posted about them on the first forum that popped up on Google. I'm just curious as to why that post was deemed so retarded as to warrant a Weekend Web feature.
I was surprised as well.

With so many user-created webcomics about these days (according to Zeor) it can be difficult (I imagine) to keep track of them all and their influences and storylines become debased. How about making an OD-born comic, complete with characters and vague storyline(s), that everyone takes turns in to write and draw?

The tricky part is that while each strip must contain a punch line, be it weak or strong, they must still be part of an overall storyline that spans multiple strips. Storylines would normally be created on the fly but they can also be pre-written behind the scenes. I stress that it'd be turn-based, so there wouldn't be any overlap and everyone would contribute equally. It must also not be about any member of the small OD community or other wormers. However, there's nothing stopping us from basing it on Team17, though that may be a bit close to home and restrictive in terms of storylines, unless we depart with truth and embrace weird fiction. With that in mind, before we set off we must design the scenario and starting characters, as well as establishing who's contributing and the turn order. Along the way, people can post their opinions and suggestions in the thread but there should be no arguements, and their implementation should be up to the authors/artists. And no cameos unless they have a significant comic result.

How does that sound? I know we've done communal comics in the past but they were more of a free-for-all with no major plot.

Tell Wormthingy to keep his email free of swear words and advertisements for Xanax and it shouldn't get caught up in any spam filters.

background :well, firespikez was born on a island… so he was a sauvage for his 8 firsts years. His mother was a monkey... no just kidding.XD his mother died swallowed by a bird, but his father was dumb so he said: dont worry! I’ll save y....*gulp*! So they left him on this island. Fortunatly, he was smart enought to eat earth by himself XD. But someday, on a stormy day, a tornado came and it took firespikez so far he landed on the city 3 kilometres away. The next day, He woke up, and he saw a crowd in front of him. He was scared so he screamed. They took him how to talk, how to eat something else than earth, how guns works, and how to tweak. But until he discovered the technology, he was nothing. He loved tech so much he built every weapons and accesories he have. but one day, after building his own thermalvision googles, He was so proud he tryed them out quickly, and it worked! But ... wait a minute!... they’re stuck! Oh no! He forgot to let the glue dry! Now he is stuck forever with his thermal googles... but he found a style with it. Blue hair, black punk gloves... this will do it! He said....

not much knew they were stuck... but they liked it.

description: firespikez is not a great killer... he likes to have friends , eat, play, tweak, but he kills everyone saying something bad about his googles, watever it is and how it is.he hates noobs, baseball bat, and birds. yeah, birds. you know why...
he is very presice... he's using his thermalgoogles for everything...almost. he's doing teamwork, saying were the enemy is, even behind a wall.
he likes people who help him, play with him, talk with him, and tweak with him... he's very sarcastic, he likes jokes... he's very tickling.
oh, he don't like traitors.

guns: a cat luncher. its a bow with a cat armed as ammo. its homing, and when it explodes, 7 birds appears as bomblets.
a rope, girder, grenade, and bazooka.

powers: as i said, thermal googles... but he can control fire almost perfectly, but his fire is blue.he got a small shield.. not really powerfull. it only a sort of energy shield.

well... thats it.

lol

This is why I don't go out of OD much : (
And I'm surprised at just how much his sigworm loves to tweak, and that villagers taught him that

I know we've done communal comics in the past but they were more of a free-for-all with no major plot.Sounds like a plan.

Even deserving of its own thread.

"Gook" is something you find on the little rollers in the olde-timey mice. A "beaner" is a type of delivery in baseball. If you censor those you just make life difficult.

all kinds of angry parents shout a lot and say things like "how can we hope to raise out children when they listen to artists like [list] glorifying guns and things?" and [list] invariably includes Eminem, which is fantastic, because I get to reply "have you ever actually listened to an Eminem song?

He's just like an angrier, more messed-up version of Ben Folds (only with less musical talent). He sings (raps) about how messed up his life is and how anyone with any sense should specifically avoid emulating his lifestyle because it sucks. And people respect him for that and then try to emulate his lifestyle, so he releases more albums that say "what the hell do you idiots think you're doing?" and the cycle continues.

I think part of his message is obscured by censors.

He did a song once where he listed illegal drugs and explaind in patient detail how each and every one will affect you and why you really should just leave them alone. At our school that was called "PSE" and was on a Thursday afternoon.

The version of that song I last heard had all the names of the drugs silenced.

How that helped matters I have no idea.
