My best isn't even half that.

Let's just say I've been practising a lot lately.

But I bet that 1 American Meteos point exchanges to 2 European Meteos points. :p:p. I'd say it's the other way round - the Euro names sound much more classy. Come on - Gigantis or Yooj? Aetheria or Brabbit? Perilia or Boggob? Magmor or Jeljel?

Incidentally, our scores for Vortinia/Gigagush are almost exactly the same... although even then I still have a slight lead.

The blocks would have to be put together by 4 single blocks.

How about a robot that stands behind the game and monitors for completed lines. He could have some kind of 10 pronged block-grabber that pulled a line away. The shapes would have to come apart of course. He could rebuild shapes using the blocks from the completed lines he's grabbed. The blocks would have to attach to something in the position where they fall initially, so that you can have floating blocks.

But then you would have problems with floating blocks. How on earth would you do floating blocks?
On second thought, only magnets would do the trick, as they could even hold a floating next to another one.

Grooves (similar to those ins puzzles) wouldn't work as the parts extending from a single block which are not connected would mess up the height.
If the grooves are all aligned in the same directory, pushing out a whole row would work.

Floating blocks that are totally alone over a hole are a problem though.

True.

This could be the reason why they aren't listed in that (simple) reactivity list though:
"Its corrosion resistance is excellent and it can only be attacked slightly by most mineral acids. Tungsten metal forms a protective oxide when exposed to air but can be oxidized at high temperature."
Link
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tungsten)The metal oxidises in air and must be protected at elevated temperatures. It has excellent corrosion resistance and is attacked only slightly by most mineral acids. Link (http://www.webelements.com/webelements/elements/text/W/key.html)
High-purity gallium is attacked only slowly by mineral acids. Link (http://www.webelements.com/webelements/elements/text/Ga/key.html)

Main reason I want to know is because I'm compiling a set of Metals Top Trumps, and reactivity is one of the categories. I want to include tungsten and gallium because they're both interesting elements: tungsten is your melting point top trump, and gallium is almost as extreme: only mercury and caesium have lower melting points among the metals (To make things interesting, I'd like the declarer to be able to say "higher" or "lower" as well)

High-purity gallium is attacked only slowly by mineral acids. LinkTricky part about that is that aluminium also has that behaviour, yet it's classed as pretty darn reactive because it is once you get rid of the oxide (It's also great at displacing other elements well. The Thermite reaction is Al + Fe2O3 --> Fe + Al2O3 + silly amounts of heat).

I really like Gallium, Caesium and Rubidium as they are solid at room temperature but melt in your hand.
The Thermite reaction is Al + Fe2O3 --> Fe + Al2O3 + silly amounts of heat).
A friend and me once tried it but the Aluminium only slightly burned (from the Magnesium igniter) and the reaction didn't start because we only had small aluminium chips instead of powder.

Fun side story is how I got the Fe2O3:
We dumped an iron nail and a graphite electrode into water and plugged it in into the socket (220V AC).
The problem was that we added too much NaCl (as electrolyte) and the AC corroded the graphite electrode as well.
Also, the high concentration of salt resulted in massive amounts of chlorine gas build-up... in the cellar.
At first we liked the funny smell "like in the swimming pool", but then we got burning eyes, had to cough and got dizzy.
We then decided to continue the experiment outside. :D

At the end of the day (litterally) the graphite electrode was gone and enough rust had built up, which we then dried on the stove in a Teflon frying pan.

Hooray for amateur chemistry!
Next week you'll hear about our napalm experiments.

Those two lines make me refrain from calling it "awsome":
"Caesium reacts explosively in cold water and also reacts with ice at temperatures above −116°C."
"Caesium hydroxide (CsOH) is a very strong base and will rapidly etch the surface of glass."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesium

CsOH is on of the strongest bases, BTW. And since there is also a build-up of Hydrogen gas when soluting Cs in water, there's also the danger of further explosive reactions.

You should only use very small samples I'd say.

Quick question about dual core processors:

Apparantly I have two 1.6GHz processors in my new machine.

What would be the equivalent of that in terms of ordinary processors? Would it be 3.2GHz, or less, or what?

thomasp
14 Nov 2006, 20:42
I assume you have a dual core 1.6GHz processor - which is "technically" only one processor chip. If you've got two of these, then you have a very nice quad-core piece of kit.

For simplicity, a dual core is the same as running two processors inside your computer, so you do indeed have about 3.2GHz. Although, I think one Dual Core chip is marginally faster than two single-core chips

Basically, it tracks what games you play and lets you play with your friends when they are online.

I would imagine it's pronounced "crossfire" because they're just cool like that

MSN doesn't say what game you are playing and the sound doesn't play (at least with me) if I get a message while I'm on a game. Plus I use an Xfire sig in RealVG. It doesn't exactly look good to make it seem like I never play games even though I'm reviewing them.

Latest hurricane on the PS3 newsfront: roughly 200 past games fail to work with it, I doubt that includes Katamari Damacy or GTA, but I also doubt Sony will be willing to help out those who buy the system before the issue is fixed in future units. Also this (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/gizmodo/one-mans-ps3-hdmi-issues-215190.php), potentially this (http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/rumor-no-20-gb-ps3s-coming-215234.php), and the fact that both the PS2 and PSP have tended to have many more issues near release than later on in their lifespan.

Hello, chaps.

The main reason to use Xfire is because you can use it in-game. You can send and receive IMs without having to minimise. If you regularly play PC games you'll appreciate being able to launch a game a contact is playing and join the same server as him by clicking one button. The program also automatically keeps a list of the servers you've played on, which is handy if you liked a server but forgot what its name or IP was. It's a shame you can't use it with the MSN service.

According to the news, some film about tapdancing penguins has beaten the new bond film to the top of the BO in the US.

Concerning the Panda Porn: I read about that in TCD's satrical magazine "Pirahna!". It was an article on how God hates pandas. It took established scientific facts, and twisted them.

Example:
"Pandas hardly ever mate. They ovulate only once every few years and still won't do anything about it. They just sit there! These ****ers know they're endangered and still won't do anything about it. Zoos have actually resorted to making panda porn to coax them."

There's also stuff on how they're carnivores, but only eat bamboo, and about the fact that baby pandas are 1/900th of the mother's bodyweight. "That's like giving birth to your big toe."

I'm tired and grouchy and I have no idea why. I choose to blame the vent in the wall that doesn't close, thus letting in a permanent chill.

Still, I have all of my Yule shopping done now. So I can sleep easy tonight.

How the hell do you find the perimeter of
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/3465/lolmatheb9.png
using a simpler method than mine:

Perimeter = AB + BC + CD + AD = 45+(sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123))*(104-arccos(((35^2)*2-2*45*35*cos(123))/(2*35*sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123))))/sin(65)+sqrt(((sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123))*(104-arccos(((35^2)*2-2*45*35*cos(123))/(2*35*sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123)))/sin(65))^2+45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123)-2*(sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123))*(104-arccos(((35^2)*2-2*45*35*cos(123))/(2*35*sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123)))/sin(65)*sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123))*cos(180-((104-arccos(((35^2)*2-2*45*35*cos(123))/(2*35*sqrt(45^2+35^2-2*45*35*cos(123))))-65))+35
~= 350m

? :(

I get about 200.5

To be honest, I couldn't make any sense out of your method, (the whole "everything in one long equation" thing freaks me out) so I'll just say what I did:

I solved for the length of line segment DB with the Law of cosines, and then use the Law of sines to find the unknown two angles in the resulting bottom triangle, which I labelled here as theta1 and theta2.

Then I could find the values of the adjacent angles through subtraction, which I labelled here as theta3 and theta4.

With these angles, I could now use the law of sines again to solve for DC and BC.

You know, I never wanted this to happen, ever, but I'm mildly drunk right now. At least I think mildly. I don't think I'm acting a lot differently, but my physical coordination is shot. I feel kinda like when you have a cold and you take a bunch of medicine for it.

I'm gonna call this an end to my "experimental drinking" -- I've officially decided I just really don't like the stuff.

I can't break up maths problems into several operations. Ever.

I have no idea what's wrong with me. Either I do it in one huge, messy equation, or I sit there and stare blankly at the paper.

Must be a disorder or something.

Also, I'm fairly sure ~200 is the correct answer, so yeah.

But we know God isn't omniscient, because it says so in the Bible.

After the Great Flood, he apologises for making a mistake. Either he's not all-knowing, or he's not as smart as Ratzinger and his goons would have us believe.

Yes to the first one you said, only because he connot lie.

The second one is wrong. He did not feel regret for the flood, he felt regret for making mankind because of all the horrable stuff that was going on. People were killing eachother, false worship, angles came to earth and took for themselves wives and the children were pretty much super strong ass holes. I'd feel regret after everything after the garden of Eden went completly to hell too. And after the flood and all that, he made a rainbow with a promise never to flood the earth again.

And I beat Wind Waker with 100% yesterday.
I figured that since I'm going to sell my cube when I get the Wii, I would give it one last hurrah.

It didn't occur to me before how much fun Wind Waker was... or how pretty.
The game got a lot of flak for the cel-shaded style, but if people just look past that they'd see how smooth and beautiful everything is.

I'm looking forward to Twilight Princess, yes.

I liked Wind Waker a lot. One of my favourite Zelda games, I think, easily. Annoying in places (particularly the end, in the black-and-white rooms), but that's Zelda for you.

You might have a job selling a Cube for anythign much... the market's probably going to be a bit saturated with people who've just realised the thing is totally obsolete.

Yeah, recap rooms are rather dull.
It nearly broke Viewtiful Joe 2 for me. You had to fight EVERY boss again, even the one you just fought in the level before.

And I know that the cube won't get a lot of money, but I'm selling games and stuff too. Heck, there's not much of a reason to keep it around.
