I'd never heard of the theremin before, but now I am tremendously intrigued (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6bSRcRAhnc&NR=1).

I've seen Elvis Costello play one. Also Bill Bailey and Jonathan Ross, but that was on TV.

The Costello gig was strange and excellent. There was this little aerial sticking out of a keyboard and we were saying to each other "that cannot be a theremin". The idea of Elivs Costello using a theremin was just strange to me, but then he did.

It went on for hours, and sometimes there was no microphone. Also he spent a long time singing mostly to a good-looking girl off to one side.

WOW! I just recieved the most disturbing e-mail I've ever seen before!

WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY
U.S.
PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING
SPEECH?
'My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of the
Iraq regime has been completed.

Since congress does not want to
spend any more money on this war, our mission in
Iraq is complete.

This morning I gave the order for a complete
removal of all American forces from Iraq This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now time to
begin the reckoning.

Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the
names of countries which h ave stood by our side during the
Iraq conflict. This list is short . The
United Kingdom , Spain , Bulgaria , Australia , and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list
contains every one not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on
that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later
this evening.

Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign
aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money
saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the
Iraqi war.. THEN EVERY YEAR THERE AFTER IT'll GO TO OUR SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM
SO IT WONT GO BROKE IN 20 YEARS.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into
third world Hell holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on
corruption.

Need help with a famine ? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call
France .

In the future, together with Congress, I will work to
redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at
home On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will
hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the
earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try
France or maybe China .

I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic
relations with France , Germany , and Russia . Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO
as well. Bonne chance, mezamies.

I have instructed the Mayor of
New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in
Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those
vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever
treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets.
Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be
turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New
York

A special note to our neighbors.
Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each
other, you folks might want to try not ****ing us off for a
change.

Mexico
is also on List 2 its president and his entire corrupt government really need an
attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra thousand tanks and infantry
divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put 'em? Yep, border
security.

Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting
now.

We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll
be drilling for oil in Alaska- which will take care of this country's oil needs for decades to
come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to
List 2 above: pick a country and move there.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will
accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, 'darn
tootin.'

Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent
life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about
everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in
America It is time to eliminate homelessness in
America . To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We
owe you and we won't forget.

To
the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak
Arabic.

God bless America
... Thank you and good night.' the level of short-sighted stupidity inherent in this e-mail is really rather frightening. the fact that it's making rounds enough to reach me is much moreso.

So I went to pick up the last payment check thing (I know it has a name, y'know how companies are supposed to give you an extra amount of money after you quit or get fired?) from my previous job, and there was this Particularly Obnoxious ***** that was also supposed to get a last payment check thing and apparently was supposed to receive this a month ago, and she takes things Way Too Seriously that she is now going to sue them, because, and I quote "now a child has gone blind as a direct consequence of this situation" (Apparently she is involved in some association that works to bring care to children, and apparently it was Very Important that she was at another place today because otherwise this kid wouldn't be authorized an eye surgery and she couldn't be there because she had to come get her check, because obviously this was so much more important than anything else) and also because she has been deeply offended after she was told by one of the employees there that she is not too smart. And also because in a previous occasion they had security take her out because she was refusing to leave. So basically she wouldn't let the girl handling the payments do her work until she attended her first, because Justice had to be done! And not only was she expecting her to hand her the check (which she agreed to do) she was also expecting her to listen to all her ramblings about how they weren't doing their work right, and how they weren't doing their work right, and how a kid is now blind, and how they weren't doing their work right, and how she was going to sue them, and how they weren't doing their work right, and... well this goes on forever. The problem here is that she hadn't signed her resignation yet, they require you to sign this document about how the company doesn't owe you anything anymore, how you willingly chose to quit the job, etc etc, and she was refusing to sign this.
So a simple thing as me going, signing check as received and getting out took about an hour and a half because this HUGE INJUSTICE HAD TO BE SOLVED FIRST.

ALL HAIL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE!

Haha, it isn't. I got it at an AIDS walk I went to. I gave it to one of my teachers and he put it on a shelf he has for toys like that. It seems right at home next to a Freud action figure, and I didn't know what I could have done with it. At least this way a lot more people get to enjoy Jimmy (its name is Jimmy according to the back :))

Hi,

Umm.. awkward and hypothetical question here, what if... how do I phrase this.. Lets say a "friend" of mine was "pleasuring himself" in the middle of working on upgrading his PC, with the card on the table, he made a "mess" of the card. After the reinstall, the card no longer works, while it was working perfectly before, my "friend" is curious what kind of damage would seminary fluid do to the GPU in question? It was all over the card and on the fan, is it possible the fan itself sucked the fluid into the main GPU and short circuited it? Remember before this card was working 100% and my "friend" observed nothing else out of the ordinary besides the *****.

Advice? can my "friend" return this card? warranty? anything "he" can do to repair it?This is quickly followed by pages of laughter, speculation, puns and one-liners.

Back on my Mac.
Anyway, I devised a plan to get it for myself a few days ago. Since my sister wanted an i-Pod, I tought "Hey, I'll get a touch and give her the one I have!". But of course, the Touch is expensive(32 GB model). So I tought "Hey, maybe I can get someone else to cover part of that cost". So I started manipulating my aunt. >:3 My sister believes they (my aunts) have more of a preference for us (me and my brother) than her, since we tend to get more expensive gifts from them. The thing is, when my sister is asked what she would like for a present, she tends to only ask for not expensive, stuff she actually needs, because she doesn't want to ask for much. Me and my brother don't care if we're receiving too much, we aim high. We are scum.
So I reminded my aunt that my sister only got a backpack on her birthday on january, and that she probably deserves a better present considering what me and my brother usually get. So I told her I could get an iPod Touch for myself and give my sister my iPod if she helped me with part of the cost of the Touch. She was ok with the idea, so we had the guy that got me the Wii from the US to get us an iPod Touch.
However, I didn't get away with it, since my sister ended up choosing to keep the Touch instead. :p
I wasn't counting on that since my sister had told me before that she hated the idea of a touch screen and preferred an iPod Classic. :P

Oh well, it still works for me since I get to test it whenever she lets me burrow it and it actually ended up not costing me a bit. Hoho.

Recently, a friend of ours, Simon, moved to Over, just North of Cambridge, UK. He was moving to a lovely property, with a nice garden and a pond.

Simon wasn’t so keen on the pond though. It’s not very child friendly, and with two young ones running around the garden, he thought it would be safer to get rid of it.

A few buckets and hours of sweating later, Simon lifted the pond lining to discover a laminated piece of paper sitting at the bottom of the gaping hole that once was the previous owner’s pond.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2179/2536237662_a6fe22700e.jpg

Whoever created this, come forward. You’re weird and you’re funny. And you’re creeping the hell out of us!

For those who don’t want to read the image, here’s the full text. I waited for someone else to type it up, since I couldn’t be bothered - I think they call that crowdsourcing?

10th July 2003

To whom it may concern:

If you are reading this then I can only assume that you have removed the pond under which this note was buried.

Of course, as I am not around at the moment, I am not in a position to comment on why you may have chosen to remove the pond and, it is fair to say, that there could be any number of reasons for doing so. I will not try to list those potential reasons right now but there could be quite a lot of them. One of the more bizarre reasons could be that the removal of the pond was the direct result of a bite on the ankle from a Wildebeest, but I shall not speculate.

Anyways, I would like you to be aware that the digging of this pond and it’s subsequent filling with water and stocking with fish and aquatic plants took a considerable amount of personal effort. It’s not just the digging of the hole you know (although clearly that is a major part), but also the consideration that had to be given to the sitting of the pond, its shape and size, its location close to a convenient electrical supply, etc etc etc.

I have to admit that I am a bit miffed about all this. You have just destroyed (yes, I know its a strong word to use but there are principles involved here) something that took me a long time to do. If I came along and destroyed something that it had taken a long time for you to do then I think you would be a bit miffed as well, so just think on that.

Enough of this. Just get on with what it is you think you are doing, you snivelling pond destroyer.

Oh, and by the way, I hope your head falls off.

Zero72
17 Jun 2008, 07:26
10 points for Mr. Bonz. It's a really rare scenario where part of my iris just plain never developed, and even rarer because they aren't exactly symmetrical. Only on the bottom, there, so not quite cat/lizard/whathaveyou eyes, but I do get that a lot. To answer Pikkul, yeah, the effect is pretty drastic. I can see very far downwards, although a lot of it is peripheral; I can be looking straight ahead and barely see the movement of my feet as I walk. That's the good news. The bad news is that I'm extremely sensitive to light. I have to squint on cloudy days.

Although my vision is reasonably sharp, I believe this is related to my needing glasses; the vision part of my brain, naturally, expects the pupils to be round and not keyhole-ish, so they don't know how to focus just right.

Lastly, I'm very fortunate that this happened only to my iris. Had the same thing occurred on something like the lens or retina, I would have been born blind. They weren't sure if I would ever see for a couple of days after I was born.

Dude, that comic's by Shintaro Kago.
One of the most awesome comic artists ever. No joke.

His comics are the most mindblowing things I've ever read. (The panels read right to left, by the way.)

That site has translations of some of his other stuff, including the comic you posted right there.

Oh right, I ought to mention that his stuff is very NSFW. He's an ero guro artist, so prepare yourself for a lot of graphic sex, gore, and defecation. Hopefully you guys can stomach that kind of stuff.

Justin, can you see pretty ladies more easily without having to look up and down?Well, like I said, most of the extra vision is peripheral (I think), so, not so much.

Then again, I barely ever try, given the lack of pretty ladies in the vicinity.

He has some nice ideas and techniques, but those alone don't justify that many pages of repeated nonsense.
He seems to squeeze in sex and defecation on every possible occasion.

I'd rather see a more science-fictional approach.

You could have an advantage when it comes to stumbling bare foot through the jungle after a plane crash and spotting poisonous snakes and spiders in the periphery to avoid stepping on them. :D

Being profane in order to upset wasn't my intention. It was a play on words, and I judged that using the actual words or ones that closely matched the pronouncements would emphasise the joke better than allowing asterisks to take their place.

This is insane.

This guy is telling people that he was hired as a game tester for Gran Turismo HD a year or so ago, and he reacted too quickly for the programming, so the engine was pushed to the limit, making it harder and harder for him to react to it. The physics engine kept improving and he kept pushing himself to conquer it, and eventually he apparently thought at the speed of light and saw god.
But then he's kicked off the project, and the "company owned by Kazonori Yamauchi is making money off God’s image", so we should stop playing video games. (!?)

I mean... just...
I know he's a nut, but what a nut! :p

As awesome a tit-typing probably is I was typing with my eyes closed.

"i am posting" went well.

I went one to the left on the W, then right on the Y and the entire word 'eyes',except the S, which I went to the left of: "eith mu rurd"

"cvloderf." happened because I hit the C and V together, went one to the right of the S, then hit the R with the E and finally went left of the D.

And this has been why I shouldn't post with my eyed fu5r4tm.

Generally, our numbers are formatted as follows:

01234 567 890

However, with the addition of "02" numbers for London and other areas (most UK landlines begin 01 with a 5 digit "SDT" code, then a 3 digit "area" code and then the final 3 digits for that specific phone), different formatting has been adopted for 02 numbers, to make them read slightly better. Mobiles always start 07 and have their own random formatting :p
