I've not actually listened to many of their albums per se: most of what I've picked up came from a tape my dad made of some of his favourite songs (Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing, Walk of Life, Romeo and Juliet, Tunnel of Love, Solid Rock, Industrial Disease and Love Over Gold). Like a lot of my musical heritage, it came from listening to what my parents play in the car.

On an unrelated note, a variation on a rather famous theme (and quite frankly it sounds like a more intriguing premise for a game...):

I'm my own anti-virus!

I went into the System folder and, knowing I could use Knoppix Linux to replace them if need be, I moved over 20 .exe files into the recycle bin.

It's very helpful to look in the file properties. Many illegitimate programs use bogus stuff for various fields. Like comments might be "(", version might be "$", etc. Some try to seem legitimate by saying they're from a trusted company, (several used Intel) but if you look you can usually see inconsistancies compared to other programs by that company. (Microsoft always has a copyright notice, for example)

And now, finally, my system is clean of things that AVG anti-virus and Ad-aware were unable to find. And the computer works, so I guess I didn't remove any crucial system files.

Ok, here's the facts:
Some months ago, Inuyasha was showed 2 episodes a day from monday to friday on Cartoon Network, but they suddenly stopped showing it when there were only 7 episodes left for the ending of the series
But they still showed it on saturdays, 5 episodes each saturday, altough they were showing earlier episodes, so I was stuck seeing all those episodes repeated waiting for the end of the series to come along again
Well, today they were going to show 5 of the 6 last episodes I saw last time, so that meant next saturday they would have to show the last episode I saw plus other 4 episodes I haven't seen, but guess what? They decided to show 6 episodes today, not only five, that means I got to see the last episode I saw again, so then I go and check CN's mx schedule, and guess what? they have YuyuHakusho instead of Inuyasha... that means they are, again, not showing the last 7 episodes of the series...................
WTF IS THAT?!?!?
I'm thinking 3 options:
1- either they didn't buy for any reason the last episodes,
2- the last episodes aren't translated to spanish(not likely tough, they use the same version for LA and afaik, they did showed the last episodes in other LA countries)
3- they are complete and utter sh*t

Whatever the reason is, I am completely ****ed off and from now on I declare war to CN and any thing sponsored by it

Sure I can find them in english/subtitled, but it just won't be the same, I'm used to the spanish voices...

What I would like to find, even if it's a japanese version with subtitles, or the english version, is the Inuyasha movies, as for some reason I have the feeling they weren't translated to spanish

Maybe I should contact the company who did the translation and see if I can somehow purchase the episodes... aah I hate cartoon network

Hey, speaking of InuYasha...

As some of you may know, Pikkul harbors a deep hatred for InuYasha and everything related to it. In fact, I think it's safe to say he hates InuYasha more than anything else on Earth. Even though he's never seen an episode, though he has seen the characters.

Anyway, once I thought this up, I couldn't help myself -- I sent him the Japanese opening theme (Change the World, and it was labeled as just that, so as not to arouse his suspicion). Here's what happened...

Or you can probably alter the wiring. But you can't simply up the power - you'd also have to change the operating frequency so it transmits within a ham band.

AndrewTaylor
22 Feb 2005, 15:29
If you remember when I gave K^2 the Gravity source, you may recall all my graphics buffers are invariably named after characters from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. There is a reason behind most things programmers do, but rarely a good one. Once I forgot the word "finalisation" for a while (you know how words do that sometimes) so I called my routine "Outitialisation". That seemed to work. It's generally best not to read source unless you really want to hack it about.

In height and weight compared to age, I'm in the 97th percentile in height and the 55th percentile in weight, giving me a DPI of 17.2 which means that I'm ever so slightly underweight (around the 20th percentile in DPI). Despite the fact that I'm always eating something. At the moment I weigh 55 kg (120 lbs), which means that when I'm 20 years old I'll be 75 kg (165 lbs) if I keep growing like an average person. Right now, I'm 179 cm (71"), which means that I'll be around 190 cm (75") when I'm 20. This will cause my DPI to drop to the 10th -15th percentile. This is all assuming that I follow regular growing patterns.

Amazing.

In other news, I made an African couple today. They're quite beautiful, you see. I'm probably going to make a Brit one and a Norsk one in the neearrrr future.

I'm not sure if you can even count that as a correction. First of all, Genesis and Genesis II were far more popular than Master System. NES unquestionably dominated the 8 bit market, but Genesis has created quite a competition to Nintendo for the 16 bit market. Also, the only thing that makes an emerald an emerald, and not just a sapphire, is the same thing that makes it green, so if you understand "emerald" as an adjective, these two are nearly synonimous.

Yes, but they're different zones from different games with (most importantly from the PoV of the conversation) different tunes! Woo!Jungle Zone's a good one. I've just tried listening to the others you've mentioned though, and I can't see anything special there.

TBH, if I was asked to name my ten favourite Sonic tunes... I couldn't. It'd have to be a longlist of fifty, or something. I used to have a Top 15 list, but for simplicity it only covered the four backbone Mega Drive games (S1, S2, S3, S&K). Now with the Adventures and the Advances, and looking back to the 8-bit tunes, all of which throw up good contenders, I really can't cope with that. Heck, even obscure games like Chaotix have some worthwhile tunes (Speed Slider's theme is astonishingly addictive) All I can say is that the definites for an all-time new Top 10 would include Casino Night, Metal Harbour, Hot Crater Act 2, the bit of Twinkle Park where you're outside the castle... wait, this is turning into a big list. But how could I stop it at ten? AAARGH!

I had all the mp3s from the Japanese version at some point, but I appear to have lost them. Nads.

Oh well, at least I've got the original game CD with its English tracks. They aren't half bad.

Metropolis Zone's tune is certainly very catchy.

However, it is a property of most chaotic systems that some kind of order will emerge - hence (to a degree) fractals.

Splapp's beginning to remind me of Rhiannon House at Comp. They kept coming second in everything, too (well, Eisteddfodau and Sports Days, but given they were the only two inter-house competitions and the whole house thing was forgotten the rest of the year round...). Heck, even my house Tydfil managed to win one of each (Tydfil won the Eisteddfod when I was House Captain... dead chuffed with that, I was), even though we tended to prop up the pile the rest of the time.

...

See, THAT's how you go off-topic with style...

I saw an article in a game magazine earlier today that showed a version of Zelda: Wind Waker that isn't cell shaded. Apparently if you preorder the new Zelda game sometime this April you'll get a copy of it.

And no, it's not the same with a different shading engine - Link looks normal and his head is in proportion to the rest of his body. And the enemies have nice textures.

Yeah, the cell shading did work well.

From the few screenshots I saw it seemed to look okay without cell shading. The main thing I'm worried about is how the random people in the towns will look. They'd need to be remodelled too, and if they weren't it'd look absurd.

I was playing Smash Bros. Melee yesterday. After having taken on so many level 4 computer opponents, I figured I was about ready for level 5. Boy, did I regret that.

I was playing a teammatch as Pikachu, with Kirby on my side, versus Dr. Mario and Yoshi (all AI characters at level 5). In the first game, I grabbed Mario early on in the match. He threw me. Yes, he threw me, despite the fact that I was the one who grabbed him.

Then, Mario decided it would be an interesting tactic if he proceeded to shield against every projectile, attack, and word of profanity hurled at him. Attempting to get a little revenge, I decided to be a shield whore for a while myself. Only, the game didn't much care for the fact that I was shielding, as I proceeded to be hit every time someone was trying to hit me. The shield didn't break or anything, it just decided to phase out of existence whenever something made impact with it.

Anyone who's played will know how irritating the Bob-ombs can be in many situations. I actually managed to grab one and hurl it straight into Mario's face. He didn't shield against it, nor evade it in any way. He proceeded to take no damage, flick a few bits of ash off his nice clean suit, and kick me in the face.

Later on, I unleashed a beautifully timed, fully-charged headbutt attack on Yoshi while he was falling downwards after being bashed a distance by Kirby. Upon contact, I stopped dead in my tracks and fell, while Yoshi, much similar to Mario in that last incident, took no damage at all. Upon landing, he then kicked the air to his right, and, apparently owing to a freak gust of wind or something, the impact of the kicks landed on me, to the left.

By this point I was getting considerably ****ed. I grabbed a hold of a passing Freezie, and with a tribal war-cry, hurled it in Mario's direction. It shattered spectacularly in his face, and I suddenly found I was the one encased in a block of ice as a direct result. Mario then managed to raise my damage by about 40% while I was frozen.

Mario and Yoshi won 3 games in a row. As a matter of fact, I had -2 kills in one game, a new record-breaking low for me. I had taken all I could stand, and it was time to be cheap to unleash some pent-up rage.

I lowered Mario and Yoshi's difficulty levels to 1, raised Kirby's to 9, turned on manual handicaps, and gave myself the greatest possible advantage over the opposing team. During the following game, I smashed Mario's lifeless corpse into the stratosphere so hard I'm pretty sure he tore a hole in space-time.

Today, I set the AI difficulty back to level 4. All has been well since.

UnKnown X
12 Mar 2005, 22:49
Before, when I was a smash freak, I could take on 3 level 9 bots with their handicap level on 9 and mine on 5.

Now I can barely beat a lvl. 3 bot. . .

Also:

"I decided to be a shield whore for a while myself. Only, the game didn't much care for the fact that I was shielding, as I proceeded to be hit every time someone was trying to hit me. The shield didn't break or anything, it just decided to phase out of existence whenever something made impact with it."

This is because your shield was too small. If a part of the body is sticking out of the shield, it may be hit. You may move the shield around with the control stick (but don't tap it too fast or you'll dodge.)

"Anyone who's played will know how irritating the Bob-ombs can be in many situations. I actually managed to grab one and hurl it straight into Mario's face. He didn't shield against it, nor evade it in any way. He proceeded to take no damage, flick a few bits of ash off his nice clean suit, and kick me in the face."

It is possible to hit nearly any attack/item back and not take damage from it. It requires nearly perfect timing though. And a lot of luck.

"he then kicked the air to his right, and, apparently owing to a freak gust of wind or something, the impact of the kicks landed on me, to the left."

Nearly all attacks hit a bit to the left if you are using it to the right and vice versa. So you have to be a bit careful.

Believe me, I may not be able to take on three level 9 AI opponents, but I know what I'm doing better than that. :p I know how to maneuver and change the size of my shield. I know you can block (and reflect) most attacks and objects with near perfect timing (not that I've been able to do so personally), but Mario was walking towards me while I threw the Bob-omb at him, and never paused -- and I was watching carefully. He made no attempt to shield at all. And, for your third point, I know attacks can hit to the left. I've played long enough to familiarize myself with the general hit detection range for most attacks, and this was definitely a fluke of some sort, as I was standing about 2 inches to the left of Yoshi, not half-merged with him where his kick might have made contact.
