I went and played at Laserquest yesterday. It was rather fun, we played all sorts of games, although the two biggest ones were when our group was thrown in with another in two 3-way games. I did reasonably well in the first of those two games, finishing sixth out of 26, but in the second game I was rather poor - I think the pack second time round was a bit too sensitive...

Peter: So. What the hell Brian, you cured yet? Cause I don't want to live in a house with plastic on the furniture like some Italian family.
Brian: My therapist thinks he's figured out what my problem is.
Peter: Ehh. What does Sigmund Fraud think it is?
Brian: He thinks I'm in love.
Peter: Oh my God. You can talk.
Brian: Never mind.
Peter: Well. Does this girl love you back?
Brian: Oh I can't imagine.
Peter: You've got to find out for sure. You don't want to spend your life wondering what could have been. (http://www.southperk.com/episode10/11023.wav)

It does not need to be a Hotmail account.i doubt one would dare to turn his main mail account into a .NET Passport. i believe it's safer to stick it in some Hotmail account.

besides, back in ye olde days you could only register with a hotmail account. before the time .NET Passports came to existance :p

One post contained simply, and I quote, "SLORG :D" and had an attached picture.

The next post right after that contained only "SLORG OWNAR!"

I saw a video on the PCG DVD of someone completing it IN ONE HOUR. Yes, I even looked at the time taken. It said 57 minutes 47 seconds. It's incredible. He doesn't cheat, he just uses little bugs, like the fact that, if you activate a switch, HL can't tell if there's a wall between the switch and you or not. Using the Gauss Gun, he flew over Zen without doing ANY fighting. And he finished On A Rail in 2 minutes by using tripmines as steps!

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm comin' down

And I hope you're thinking of me
As you lay down on your side
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

But I know I'm on a losing streak
'Cause I passed down my old street
And if you wanna show, then just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown

Cheer Up

You say you're down you can’t lose that frown
Life sucks. What else is new? That’s tough.
There's not much you can do- you're not the only one not havin’ any fun

I've got a funny feelin’ we’re all born to lose
And I've got a funny feelin’ that this life ain’t worth livin’ through
I've been depressed and I get so stressed
Life sucks. I don't wonder why. That's tough.
I just keep on tryin’, so I won’t be the one not havin’ any fun

I've got a funny feelin’ we’re all born to lose
And I've got a funny feelin’ that this life ain’t worth livin’ through
I'm not givin’ up yet that's not the end of me
But it's not gonna be all right you'll see, you’ll see!
I've got a funny feelin’ we’re all born to lose
And I've got a funny feelin’ that this life ain’t worth livin’ through

Okay, the lyrics on their own are a bit depressing, but if you imagine that sung happily to an upbeat ska tune, your halfway there.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin
Give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

Not much out there to sing about
The world's okay, the weather's fine
No need to sing about that

Sponges suck, sponges suck
Sponges absorb liquid then you squeeze them out yeah!

Lots of songs of love
Even songs about peaches and valkyries
No songs about

Tuna fish, tuna fish, tuna fish, tuna fish
They're real big and swim in oceans
Come in cans like hockey pucks
Tuna got their names 'cause they don't swim in pairs!

Get it? tuna. are there two of those fish? nah! two-nah! two-nah! it's funny! hee hee! no? i like tuna.

Sponges
Sponges yeah!
Sponges
Sponges yeah yeah
Sponges suck, sponges suck
Sponges suck, sponges suck
Sponges clean up dishes and sinks
And countertops and baby's noses
They suck up soap and when you squeeze them out they make
Bubbles!
Bubbles!
Bubbles!

Sponges

Can't think of anything to sing about
Not much out there to sing about
The world's okay, the weather's fine
No need to sing about that

I'll sing about

Sponges
Sponges yeah!
Sponges
Sponges yeah yeah
Sponges suck, sponges suck
Sponges absorb liquid then you squeeze them out yeah!

There's lots of songs of peace
Lots of songs of love
Even songs about peaches and valkyries
No songs about

Tuna fish, tuna fish, tuna fish, tuna fish
They're real big and swim in oceans
Come in cans like hockey pucks
Tuna got their names 'cause they don't swim in pairs!

And a few gigahertz of processing power.

To do that it would have to effectively make a savegame constantly updated, in the background. Some things, like Half Life, save ludicruously fast anyway and could probably do it, but things like Deus Ex would just fall down dead.

EV Nova has so many cool easter eggs. There's an ATMOS ship which says "I prefer babysitting. It pays better. Don't tell me that was irrelevant. It was a hippopotamus." Once I also saw a ship that was called "Zero Wing Cats" and when you talk to it it shows a picture of the cat guy where it normally shows the ship, and it says the whole AYB thing.

I'm at the point where I have to register to progress in he story. I'm going to buy it, but that takes time so I have to take a break.

You can get even more by bringing luxury goods from New Ireland in Tuatha to Moonview in the Moonview system, but that involves jumping. Still, it's about twice the profit.

The Leviathan is on several maps (Redplanet for one, at your base).

Adrenaline:
Speed
Beserk
Invisible
Booster
Pintsized (Mutator option)
Camouflage (Mutator option)

The mutators tell you what the combos are.

Wow. I can capture a levaithan and sell it for 1.2 million credits! Or I may try capturing 6 leviathan escorts so I can make 7 million on the trading run I mentioned earlier. But clicking "buy" 2,800 times to buy enough cargo doesn't seem too appealing...

My pirate file in EVN is so cool, I can kill everything but the most powerful Polaran ships. My legal status is also "Wanted Criminal", but the federation doesn't harm me unless I shoot them, probably because I'm in a federation ship or because I'm so powerful they don't bother.

I have now perfectionised jumping in Unreal Tournament! I've only had it for a few months and I'm already in a clan and I'm the best jumper and movement guy. I'm even better at jumping than our best player who has played this for some years now!

I really suggest you download DM-FnG-TrainingGrounds and DM-FnG-TrainingGrounds-ND. I'll give you a link later in this post.
Add me to your buddy list in the game by clicking on "Join Game" in the main menu then buddies then right click on the thing on the left and Add Buddy. Type in [FnG]UnKnown_X (or [FnG]* if you want my whole clan :p) and I'll give you some jump training.

DM-FnG-TrainingGrounds-ND has a physics volume which disables the damage in the level. This means that it's easier to do shield jumps.

Dodge jump: Dodges can give you a boost up slanted walls that are too steep to climb. There are TONS of these in DM-Antalus. But in maps like DM-Rankin the dodges are too short and slow, so you gotta do a dodge jump. It kinda explains itself. Dodge, then jump quickly while dodging. This is faster than walking as well so you should try to get this replaced with just holding a key.

Wall dodge: Dodge away from the wall in mid-air. Sounds useless? Actually it can cover great distances when you jump, dodge then jump again. And this gives you MUCH more speed than just walking. This is especially useful when you're carrying the flag.

Shield jump: Depending on the height of your destination you might have to charge up a little bit. Sometimes a lot. The trick isn't just releasing the shield gun on the ground. You gotta jump, then a fraction of a second after you've jumped release the shield. The sooner you release the shield after pressing the spacebar, or whatever your jump button is, the better.

Double shield jump: Now this is more difficult. You shield jump, but don't double jump just yet, you gotta shield the wall first so you go even higher, then do a mid-air jump. This is helluva lot easier said than done.

[DM-FnG-TrainingGrounds (http://ut2003.lambik.com/ut2004/DM-FnG-TrainingGrounds.zip)] (Download this first)

Oh, those levels...
B...HOW?!? The manual makes NO SENSE!
I can't quite remember; I haven't used Flash in a long time, but IIRC you create a Movie Clip using the 'insert' menu (it doesn't matter what's in it at this stage), and then it appears in the Library (which I think you get to using the 'window' menu). Then you drag it from there into the scene.

Then you bring up the actionscript window somehow. Having done this, you have to type whatever commands load things into movie clips. I think it involves NameOfMovieClip.LoadSWF("path\filename.swf"); or something - look in the help files under "actionscript reference" then under "movie clips". There are a load of other commands that you can apply to movie clips like this, and they variously do thing like stop, play and rewind them, or tell you how far through loading they are - useful for making preloaders.

It also helps if you've used C, C++, Java, or similar before; the syntax is nearly identical.

It wasn't what the Open Discussion stood for, it was what it could have stood for, I mean back in those days - computers weren't mind controlled. you had to use your hands, and yes - I know that seems primative now but despite all this it was a golden time to be alive - The 100% Off-Topic thread hadn't started its own religion back then, it was just a place for ranting about anything and nothing in particular, despite this we never really thought of it as an inconvience or burden, it was just one of those things, you either contributed to it or you didn't, some people couldn't stand it, others loved it, I didn't think anything about it one way or the other, it wasn't that it wasn't an interesting thread, looking back on it now, it seems one of the most interesting from a historical standpoint, it's just that there were so many other great threads about at the time as well, I believe there was one by a philby4000 who had drawn some pictures of someone dancing, possibly me, well with crazy stuff like that going on, what was the point in checking out a thread like 100% Off-Topic, we were spoilt for choice you see and sometimes choice is a good thing and sometimes it isn't, in this case it probably was but then again maybe it wasn't, who can say for sure, after all you weren't there and I'm sure this is all very boring for you, well anyway - sorry to be a bore, it's just nice to talk about the good old days to a fellow Net veteran, we won't see days like that again unless we get them imported from Taiwan, I hear they have a fine export in memories nowadays...

I just had a thought,

If the topic of this thread is being off topic, then surely by being off topic we're actualy being on topic. And by being on topic by being off topic in an off topic thread we're actuly being off topic, as the topic is being off topic, yet we're being on topic by being off topic which makes, which is on topic. And being on topic in an off topic topic thread makes us off topic.

*digs up quote*

i told you not to eat cheese, because cheese makes you cheesy, and when you are cheesy you want more cheese, because the cheese makes you feel you need cheese, but you don't need cheese, bu you feel you need cheese because the cheese has used his cheesy powers to make you feel like you need cheese, but you need cheese because the cheese makes you want cheese, but then cheese is not real, because if it were real, then you wouldn't need cheese, but the cheese is real because you need it, but you're not real so the cheese is not real, but as you're real, then cheese is not real, but you want cheese because cheese is real, and it complements the irreality of cheese, because the cheese makes you think it's real because you're not real because you're real because the cheese is not real, but you need cheese because cheese is real, and it's not real because you don't need cheese because cheese is not real

Due to a fact I did not know about before, I learned Hovercraft Mk II will have a draw of 1.2kW,10 times what I thought it would be, which is a lot more than I can supply with a car battery.

So I've switched to gas power. I'll be using a lawn mower engine for hovering and a trimmer engine for propulsion. With the lawn mower engine I can get 12 times the power of the leaf blower I was going to use, so it's probably for the better.

I'm also removing the seat's backing to reduce air resistance. You don't need it.
