Ah, dreams.

Mine seem to range from insane to horribly demented.

I always remember the one I had about some sort of Renaissance Festival in which people's heads got sliced in half, men and women in suits would enter a small aquarium where they drowned, and some obese lumberjack man was poisoning children.
Um... yes.
And that's not the worst I've had, either...

Though I have cool dreams occasionally. The most recent 2 I can recall were pretty neat adventure-type things.

Elsewhere in this dream, I remember trying to get to sleep and having a really hard time, then deciding to just stay up.

So I guess it turns out that the reason I couldn't sleep was because I already was asleep.

Hoopy.

My dreams are usually recent events, people, games, objects, actions or anything else on my mind, all loosely tied together in a parallel world by some really lame writer to make no sense, all with the intent of either freaking me out or screwing me over.

Say, last night I had two dreams. First one, I don't remember what it was about, but it had references to "pee" all over. Eventually I woke up in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom :p thinking why the heck don't I have a normal dream like teens are supposed to, like about sex or something.

As luck would have it, that was the topic at hand. All random craziness aside, the dream was clearly about me getting laid. Everything was set up, everything was planned, everything had that one eventual goal. Of course, right at the end it, when it was all supposed to happen, some unforseen sudden event happens (in the dream), I end up screwed over and... wake up. YAY FOR SELF-ESTEEM!

Same for me.

My company recently forgot to update my working contract which resulted in me working the whole September still waiting for my €600 payment.
Last night I dreamt that my boss gave me the €600 in cash. When I woke up I had to check my desk & my wallet to see if I really had the money... :p

What's a "normal" dream?

Doesn't matter anyhow, because normal dreams are rubbish

The other night I had a dream where I was in our kitchen, which is due to be redone. I spilled something on the new units (that don't exist yet) and by the time I came to explain how it had happened the old units were somehow back. Partway through the explanation it occured to me that it would be much easier if the new units were there and that, hang on, now you mention it where on Earth were they? So I figured it was a dream, mentally reinstated the new units, finished the explanation, and went off to have some fun.

Lucid dreaming. That's the best way. (If you can do it.)

They're so... damn.... fun... and strange. I can do (almost) anything in this kinda mini reality thing. Trying to fly is tricky sometimes though, I remember almost losing it and then re-gaining it as I bobed up and down above the trees. Means I've never got a nightmare though. It's more fun to stand on top of the bin, then Use the cop. He'll baton you if you're in the right place.

Baton you about 10 feet back and 20 feet up. It's fun to do. Stand JUST over the edge of the bin closest to him, then hit Use. He whallops you halfway through a wall. Allows you to get onto the vending machines, if you do it right. You'll know you're doing it wrong because he'll run around in front of you. Take a small step forward, and he'll whap you.

I never got into it, honestly. I don't know why, but there was just something I didn't like about it.

There were definitely a few good ones, but I wouldn't sit down and read the whole thing.

Edit: I had to drive to work in a really bad thunderstorm today.

LIGHTNING STRUCK A POWER LINE IMMEDIATELY BY THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD I WAS DRIVING ON AS I WAS DRIVING BY IT.

I saw sparks flying and I actually even saw the freaking bolt of lighting still hitting it when I got my senses together and looked at it. I couldn't have been near 20 meters away from it.
Yeah, that's crazy.
I was once hiking in the Austrian Alps at 1,900 meters elevation when a thunderstorm was imminent.
We could already feel the electrical charge in the air as our head hair was standing up (like it does with those novelty tesla coils (http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold/archiv/img/plasmakugel2.JPG) or ribbon generators (http://www.technorama.ch/typo3temp/pics/85b9ae9132.jpg)).
Not as extreme as in the last picture, but you could definitely feel the tickling in your hair roots.

Suddenly lightning hit a barbed wired fence about 5 meters next to us.
It was extremely bright and I got and amazing after-image and the instant thunder was groundshaking.

We really hurried to get back into the alpine hut, because standing atop a 1900m high mountain with nothing around you higher than shrubs makes you a good target.
Caused a power outage behind me, killing all of the traffic lights I'd just driven through.
Hehe.
You would perhaps have been late to work if that happened earlier.

Haven't been around much because my Official Base Of Operations(TM) is pretty much RealVG, and until I get NTL in the house (Tuesday with any luck) I'm relatively limited in the times I can be online.

But I think I'll pop in and do a few rounds today. Anything crucial occur - Spadge announce a new game or the like?

A Chaos Warrior levels up, and the Chaos Gods reward him with a premanent aura of sunlight.

Great, if he wasn't a vampire.

Is that just Zangband using the TK graphics stuff? Because yeah, Zangband is appallingly hard. I think the reason I'm enjoying Dwarf Fortress so much is due to how easy it is once you get the hang of it (and if you get some well-trained minions to do all your fighting for you). And even if some hippopotamus manages to get at you, your death is entertaining.

I think another reason I like it so much is because it seems much more RPG-like than most rougelikes. You go on quests and defeat individual bosses, and there doesn't appear to be any ultimate goal, except for perhaps exploring the entire world, which seems pretty fun. I'll try Zangband again sometime, though.

Have you tried IVAN? It's more or less the midpoint between Nethack and Dwarf Fortress. There's quite a bit of dungeon crawling, but there is a great world map and really neat little details to explore (like getting one of your legs ripped off, and praying to a deity to get a nifty steel leg). It doesn't work for me anymore for some reason :(

It depends whether the site is using its domain name fairly. Looking at the site in the Wayback Machine (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://waynerooney.com) shows that the guy just bought the domain and sat on it, no doubt hoping to make some money. If he had actually made a Wayne Rooney fansite, or some other site that actually had something to do with the name, then he most likely would've been allowed to keep it.

Personally I think the Torys will win the election... Labour have really screwed a lot of stuff up. Most of it includes driving public services towards becoming private including the NHS, dentistry, education. Unfortunately Cameron should be leading Labour, I don't really know what he's doing in the Torys. He's clearly aiming to win the election with whatever manifesto so long as he gets in (but hey that's what Blair did so it's ok). By becoming more centre he's likely to still attract the original right wing conservatives who would fear another Labour term but also get some votes from Labour supporters.

I do find it funny how he's trying to be streetwise to attract young voters.... "Oh hey look I'm on a webcam on the internet, aren't I cool? I'm just casually washing dishes too!". Naive people will then think "Oh wow I wash dishes too, he's not a weirdo, he's my friend". Such a retard.......

Then again Brown said he liked the ArcticMonkeys but couldn't name any songs because he pretended to like them to gain popularity.

I'd much rather have a Labour government than a Tory government anyday. Even if the gap between the two is practicaly nonexistant.

I'm constantly amazed that the Lib Dems have such a small portion of the vote after what the other two partys have done to this country.:p

Oh, this reminds me, did you ever figure out that whole thing with not being able to see new people on your contact list?

I just got that for the first time with Slick's new account. He added me, I added him, email didn't show up in the contacts list but I got a notification when he signed on and he was able to start a conversation just fine. Went into the edit contacts list, saw him there, moved him to another group, account appeared.

I think half of this crap may be because Live is not in fact an update to MSN Messenger -- it's an update to Windows Messenger. (Judging by the fact that it's technically called Windows Live Messenger.) I never used Windows Messenger before, but I do recall it being loathed for its wealth of technical issues, despite being pretty well the exact same program as MSN.

MOVING BLOCKS SIDEWAYS WAT.They can't do that!

Still, sticking the screen on it's side's a nice touch. Although tying in with Disney loses some of the first game's wonderful depth and randomness...

In other news, I watched the first two episodes of Torchwood as BBC3 repeats yesterday evening. The scary part about the second episode wasn't so much what was going on (which would be pretty scary for most men anyway), but the fact that it echoes a lot of my writing, especially the recent Eve stuff. All I can say is, "Hey, I wrote/drew it before it was screened, so I can't have been copying!"...

EDIT: Excuse me, waiter, all the playing fields in this sequel seem to be eight blocks wide. I ordered variety.

Frankly, I played Meteos a couple times and it's a pale imitation of Tetris Attack anyway. Only being able to move blocks vertically makes it impossible to do anything constructive if you get bad luck with the block selection, and I can only imagine that having vertical and sideways movement makes it far too easy.

Tetris Attack DS, where are you?

Pigbuster
29 Oct 2006, 05:54
Meteos similar to tetris attack?
They're different in a lot of ways. You line up multiple blocks in a row/column in both and... that's the only real similarity.

And it wouldn't be much easier if you could move them sideways because then it would be like that for your opponent as well, who will be constantly raining blocks down on you.

Only being able to move blocks vertically makes it impossible to do anything constructive if you get bad luckEach individual game isn't really supposed to last more than about five minutes (and that's an extreme example) anyway. The idea is to ship as many Meteos and score as many points as possible in that time.

What makes Meteos stand out for me is the fact that there are 32 different planets, and each one is different: some more than others, but some of them are really whacked out. It's also what makes Meteos 2 look really poor.

It's also quite clear that you haven't discovered the joys of advanced rocketry :p.

Tetris attack is all about aranging blocks to create chains and combos. Meteos is all about using step-jumps andre-launches to create and maintain a screen-filling flying fortress of blocks at the top of the screen so that the torrent of blocks you summon with the speeder (not to mention the junk blocks your oponents send your way) instantly dissapear of the top of the screen to crush your foes.
