In honour of his career the thread title has been changed. Sad that the previous title and this one were both due to the passing of celebrities.

Wow! That's an interesting read.
I found several plot decision paths that I have not followed in all my of playthroughs.
Also, nano-augmented animals (rats, mandrills, dogs,...)? I haven't seen them in the game.
I really, really, really hope that the Eidos Montreal guys have this document, read it and understood it.
Otherwise, DX3 will be the same crap as DX2.
Shiny graphics, but dumbed-down gameplay, suffering from consolitis on all ends. :(

Man. I just screwed up pretty bad in Fallout 3. This is like a full-on Johnny Dangerpants here. Here I did my best to handle the Tenpenny's Tower situation in the most peaceful and diplomatic way possible, but I ended up with the "practically everybody is dead" outcome, my own hands so dirtied in the process that my healthy stock of Good karma got shot to Neutral in one night. I feel pretty bad. :(

Well, finally got round to getting my Advance Wars 2 Let's Play ready for archiving (I know a few people here have been waiting for this :p). It's not up on the Let's Play archive (http://lparchive.org/) yet, and probably won't be for a while: I only just sent it off, and there's a bit of a backlog for baldurk to work through, apparently). But here's a big ol' 113MB zip file for those who can't wait: http://www.mediafire.com/?rh3544fnhzji05t (click on the root index.html file to start reading).
I did quite a bit of editing: fixed all the broken images, natch, but also added in arrows on the missions where I didn't bother to first time round, and generally spruced up and remastered the whole thing.
Hope people enjoy it :)

I live in the midlands, in a reasonable sized "university" town. Where I'm currently living has an ADSL connection, and an 8Mbps package. The connection speed never goes above 2Mbit, irrespective of the time of day or other people online. The reasons for this are that the ancient telephone exchange is now overloaded and is grossly overdue for an overhaul, and that there is about 4 miles of copper cabling between me and the exchange.
At my parents old house (that was in the countryside) we got about 1.5Mbit max, because the exchange and 3 miles of copper wire were in an even poorer state. And there was no option of cable where we were because it wasn't financially viable for 5 houses spread over a mile. My current place could have cable, but the landlord's quite near the start of a 2-year contract that they can't get out of without massive penalties.
Some areas of the UK have very good internet access - mainly those with cable. The rest, that relies on ADSL and the crippled telephone exchange has very poor internet speeds.

Bah, it's true. Started Munch's Oddysee and I tried using my 360 Controller and you can do everything except actually MOVE around. That's just not ok.

Edit: While on the topic of work.. It's been two months now since I began my internship at SuperSledge, which might not even be what the company ends up being called. We'll see. But so far it's a really nice place. Time is flying along a little too quickly, it feels like it's Friday every three days. And the game is coming along nicely, I can't believe how much progress has been made since I started. Steam so frequently has sales it almost seems silly not to wait for price drops.
And it makes sense that they have them so often too, they make much more profit during the sales than any other time.

Na.. It probably was you're desktop doohickey, it may have decided a 'hide icons' was in order. Windows bugs are usually a lot stranger and harder to figure out. Like last week after visiting Recent Places, Windows decided to create a shortcut to Recent Places on my desktop that was impossible to delete. The only way you can remove the shortcut when this happens is to create a new shortcut on the desktop that replaces the old one, this new regular shortcut can then be deleted. Bloody Microsoft.

The only such app I have and use is ObjectDock Plus 2, and it doesn't hide desktop icons.
Also for the last few months all of my drop menus have opened up to the left, not the right. No idea why. Bloody Microsoft.
SargeMcCluck
12 Jan 2011, 01:00
ObjectDock is running as your shell instead of explorer.exe - and explorer as the shell is the desktop _and_ taskbar.
To check this, open run (win key + r will work), type regedit, click ok. Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\
There should be a "shell" entry in there - if it's not set to explorer.exe then write down/back up what it's set to, and then change it to explorer.exe. Restart your PC. If you have a desktop, hooray (although this will also restore your taskbar, which I assume you don't want - that's something ObjectDock need to fix I'm afraid).
If that _doesn't_ work then let me know and I'll actually research ObjectDock, but it's 2 AM and I'm not going to now. I'm going to sleep.
Squirminator2k
12 Jan 2011, 01:07
The problem was solved ages ago - it was Windows being sh*t, as Windows is want to do. Explorer is still my Shell, all ObjectDock Plus is add... well, a dock. Two docks, in fact.

You can delete it in-game. At the start, when you're selecting a household - that's the save. You can always start a second game but keep the original, of course. I seem to think there's a hard limit of 3 or 4 or something stupid, though.
Well things are just great back in the restored Whatever home! I can hardly imagine what could possibly go wrong!

I just created a new house containing a male supervillain named Professor Evilbad, and a female hero named Jet Girl. I gave Evilbad traits of Insane, Evil, Loner, Dickwad (or Mean-Spirited, or whatever), and Genius. Jet Girl is a Good, Athletic, Heroic somethingorother.
So far they seem to be getting along fine, but every now and then Evilbad will pop into the bathroom and sit on the toilet. Y'know, just for the alone time.

How's it moaning? I played the entire game through about six months ago on Win 7, but obviously there's a million variables that cound break it.
Also, if it really won't work, there is an attempt to write a new engine for it (that will work on modern OSes) - http://code.google.com/p/corsix-th/
It's only a beta at the moment, but works quite well. I found it _after_ I'd completed TH, but gave it a quick whirl and it was good then, and there's been many improvements since.

Dear Manly McNuts,
Okay, I'm not good at this kind of thing, but I feel like I have to give it a try. So, here goes:
I was hanging out the other night, listening to some old mp3s, and I was just overcome with memories of when we used to hang out all the time. Remember? You were an intrepid, fearless adventurer, and I was the free-to-play, fun-and-funny online role-playing game that won your heart. Do you still remember those good times? I can't stop thinking about them.
I mean, I know things got kind of messed up at the end, and believe me, I'm sorry. If I could take any of that back, I totally would. And I know people grow and change, and you're not the same person you were then, but hey -- I've changed, too! I thought and thought about how to win you back. I figured I'd make you a mix CD, but I couldn't decide what "our song" was. So I just concentrated on becoming a better game for you, and here's what I came up with:
Remember how much fun you used to have with your clan? Alternately, remember how you never joined a clan because you didn't see the point? Either way, clans now have clan dungeons, group zones where your whole clan can work together. Crawl through sewers to Hobopolis, a vast underground vagrant vacation vista! Slide into the slime tube, and stir-fry sassy slimes!
I know I wasn't the prettiest game when we were together, so I had some work done. Almost every interface got an interface-lift. You can even manage most of your inventory via chat commands! I also came up with a way for you to automate some of the things you don't love about the game, so you can spend more time with the parts you do love.
Not only that, but there are way more animated .gifs than there were before. Don't worry; I haven't lost that low-fi edginess you love, but I'm a lot easier to play with now.
You can also have a custom title now, just in case you didn't feel like I appreciated what made you unique as an individual.
I should also say
Haiku Dungeon's been revamped.
See what I did there?
Maybe you quit because you got sick of always adventuring above the water. I admit that seems unlikely, but I fixed that, too -- there are a bunch of underwater zones with new food, equipment, mechanics, and challenges.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg, trust me. I'm still the silly, clever, deceptively-complex game you fell in love with, only with about 95% more awesome.
So, I'm just sayin', if you can find it in your heart to give me another chance, I won't disappoint you.
If you don't drop by, I promise I won't bother you again. I just really felt like we deserved one more try.
Love,
The Kingdom of Loathing.

I am now officially dead inside....
I'm interested to note that my taste in colors seems to have undergone a substantial shift since the last time I was into SSB (not all that long ago). I'm favoring different costume colorations in which I was never interested before, i.e., white Link instead of the blue I had favored since like age 12 or something. I still think blue Link looks kickass as hell, mind, but for some reason, when it's me, I'd rather go with the white. Iunno. That and I'm actually starting to favor red more, which I guess is as it should be.

You can always try installing the DOS version (game CD should include both DOS/Win) and running it through DOSBox, it plays the same though it'll be more CPU-intensive from emulation.

Whee, my Advance Wars 2 LP (http://lparchive.org/Advance-Wars-2/) is now archived :).
Well I've been playing SimCity 3000 Unlimited practically all weekend because I really missed it for a few reasons. Named my city Fillmore, as always. After the first city in Actraiser. Anyway. It's already the biggest city I've yet had, I think. Even though I had the bright friggin' idea to start all the way back in 1900 when nothing useful, like clean industry ordinances, buses, or nuclear power, yet existed, so I've got an interesting list of grievances, but overall things are going really well and my budget is surprisingly healthy.
Weathered disasters so far include:
A huge earthquake which did a lot of damage along a very distinct fault line, which required me to replace a few bridges over the river, but honestly, all of the terrain levelling I did to repair the upheaval left it in better shape than it was pre-quake.
A second fault line earthquake, but this time the fault line was far out of harm's way, and damage to the reinforced city was virtually nonexistent.
Three episodes of toxic rain, because the east side of the river is practically nothing but pollution factories -- acres of industrial zoning, four power plants and an incinerator. I'm rather at a loss on what to do about the pollution, because again, no pollution-related ordinances or cleaner power sources are available, and I already fill a lot of the empty space with trees.
Two fires, both of which were addressed before they made it to more than one building.
A tornado, which thankfully managed to miss town completely. So completely I didn't even get a report on it.
The news ticker made it sound a lot like a riot was getting ready to happen, but I think I nipped that in the bud when I built the second prison.
Good to be back, anyway. (http://i.imgur.com/gZmVK.jpg)

Reducing air pollution is pretty much the hardest, aside from ordinances the only other things you can do are:
- High education.
- Low traffic.
- Light spread-out industries (small thin light-density blocks instead of heavy clustered blocks). Mixing up zoning also helps (obviously you can't just put residences next to industries but you can mix it up with commerce and then residence for example, instead of having just one long industrial strip).
- Trees might have an impact but they'll easily burn up too.
Luckily acid rain isn't that harmful, and doesn't even exist in the original SC3K. :p

Luckily acid rain isn't that harmful, and doesn't even exist in the original SC3K. :pYeah, it's basically a lot of complaining and a few rebuilt roads. :p
Didn't remember to sound the emergency alarm until the third time around, though. I didn't figure it was a huge enough problem to warrant telling the entire city to hit the deck, and I kinda thought the whole "either escape from the scalding rain or don't wander into it" thing would kind of explain itself, but then, let's remember that sims routinely forget how their dressers work if they're next to a bed and facing a certain direction.

In short, Beogh, the wrathful god of orcs, loves things that are orcish and hates things that aren't. Beogh will only accept orcs as worshippers, and it is prophesized among the cave orcs that a hill orc will one day appear and prove to be their messiah. Followers of Beogh are encouraged to use orcish equipment whenever possible, and fervent followers may harness Beogh's anger to smite dissenters. Followers must never harm friendly orcs, desecrate orcish remains, or deface orcish idols, and are expected to respectfully bless the bodies of fallen orcs by praying over them. Beogh may reward the true orc messiah by directly intervening to save his life at the critical moment, and with the ability to walk on water.

*the potato ARG is the new Cake Is A Lie
*portal 2 isn't even ****ing out yet and it's generating viral ****
Zero says:

*potatoes are round and lumpy and brown and are barely edible until you bury them under their own weight in salt and butter

I hate packs. Half the games I already own and the other half are usually **** that forever corrupts my library.
In fact I did the math and I can either buy the pack for €34.47 or just the games I'm missing for €31.43. All this for Portal 2 that'd cost me another €34.19.
...I hate math. :p

€34.19? On Steam?
Because I'll have to spend €40 for Portal 2 - and that's already with the -20% double-pack pre-order rebate. :p

I should buy the two pack with someone from the US. €27.58 each that way.

The fact that they've added whole new portal-themed levels to some of the better games in the pack just for the ARG is pretty cool.
Yeah the Aperture map in Killing Floor is pretty cool, and more importantly, replaces that godawfully annoying trader.

There are two different Europe regions (http://www.steamprices.com/eu/faq#id-2). :p You can compare here (http://www.steamprices.com/eu/search?portal+2).

Yeah, strange though that the Potato Sack has the same price you mentioned over here too.

Yay!
I "downgraded" my ISP package and now pay less for a faster connection, more TV channels and telephone.
Tomorrow I'll upgrade to an even faster connection (up to 100Mbit), even more TV channels (including HD) and 8 hours of free land-line calls across Europe and will still pay less than I did before.

I hate you bonz. I recently switched my plan to a new one that pays the exact same as I did before, but now with 6 Mbps(up from 2, although it rarely goes above 5...), still around .5 upload, and the same amount of tv channels and the same old crappy phone service. :c

and now I'm curious....

sadly, this is the best I've had on a regular basis in my life. I hate all of you fancy people.

I'm pretty similar to Bonz it seems, terrible upload speed though.
I also have a 40GB per month bandwidth limit but I doubt I'll ever get remotely close to hitting it.

I've uploaded 31GB of data on µTorrent in the last 90 minutes >_<
Shockingly, I don't really pirate, except for a few very old 60s/70s programmes that are not sold, distributed or broadcast in any way. The majority of that upload is perfectly legitimate.
Transferred 1.26TB in the past 31 days, it says. I'd die with a bandwidth cap.

That would definitely speed up the forum for you. :p
Mine's good partly because the exchange is literally outside my window. I can see it from my flat, so it doesn't have far to go.
When I lived at my Mum's house in the middle of nowhere, the internet was always going to be slow as hell regardless.

Holy smoligans, Sarge, here I was thinking I had the best upload speed. :p
