Once again, Google grabs something which existed long ago (in this case, "free video hosting websites") and makes it totally better (in this case, "no size restrictions and all you need to view any video is Flash").

I'm still waiting for the day when the Internet won't be called Internet anymore. It'll be called Google. "Today, I think I'm gonna check my Google Mail and my favorite newsgroups on Google Groups, then search for info on a new product on Google Search through the Google Toolbar and compare prices on Froogle, then find photos of it on Google Images, manage them with Picasa, show them to my friends through Hello, then talk to them through Google Talk and see their houses on Google Earth and while I'm at it, print some maps off Google Maps to actually go there."

Aaaaah. I've recently started playing A Link To The Past again, and I've pretty much got everything, but there's a room in the last dungeon(gannon's tower) which I can't get to.

It's in a corridor over a large pit with some things firing balls at you from both up and down. You cross from left to right, and then there's a door up. But there's also a cracked wall down, but there's no way to getting in there.

I've searched around the walkthrous available, but they all say something like: "In this next room (which is more like a corridor) black balls (heh heh) are coming from both the north and south walls. Run straight across the corridor (getting hit a few times, probably) to the end of the corridor. There's a cracked wall to the south, but we can't get to it, so we'll have to ignore it."

But I can't ignore it :p
Does anyone know how to get in there?:p

Unless your local gang has heard the rumour, and copied it, and actually killed someone, this is not true. And because this rumour is incredibly common and so far (according to Snopes), there have been somewhere between two and zero cases of anyone actually being killed, and these were years apart in different states, I'm not going to believe you until you show me a news clipping about a shooting. Dude, this thread has totally jumped the shark. I remember in the beggining when there was the Paul.Power character and he was talking about the idea of a thread which is completely off topic. It was really magical back then and showed real imagination.

Sadly, Paul's sold out. The new posts aren't exciting at all and just rely on tacky gimicks like capital letters and exclamation points. Personally, I think the writers of the new posts could take a lesson from some of the posts before page 74. It really went downhill after that. It was going downhill from 72 onwards but you knew the golden age was over when Worm-Nut said 'blue'. I'm not going to be reading any of the new pages and I'd advise other people who have grown disinterested by the 100% Off-Topic thread to check out Terry Pratchett's expanded universe threads. The 34.2% Off-Topic Thread, in particular is a real treat - getting back to the essence of what made this thread so essential while adding to the mythos with detailed explanations of what really happened to the dancing kangaroo and SomePerson's birthday.

I'll also be looking forward with eagerness to Joss Whedon's "I can't believe it's unrelated to the subject at hand" thread. It looks like it'll be much better than the populist rubbish that this has become.

Well, there have been people murdered for no apparent reason in highways. The one I can remember the most is one in which a classmate of my brother got murdered a couple of months ago. They found him a several meters away from the car, and his dad was found dead in the drivers seat. Both killed by gunshots.
There's been similar cases, like one in which a taxi was shot after it's driver honked(?) at some guys, who apparently got ****ed off by this. Taxi's usually do this to see if people who are walking around need a ride.
I don't have a news clipping of any of these, tho. The taxi one I heard on the radio news while riding a cab to school 3 years ago, so I can't be 100% sure. But the other one I am indeed sure of.
Ah. Naturally, I assumed he had gotten that from the newspaper or something.

The rumor theory makes a lot more sense.
I got that from the local tv news, with the policemen who did the discovery being interviewed and all.
There's also the fact that this kind of things do happen a lot in my country.

So much for a rumour it seems.

The jammy Americans get the entire first season of Count Duckula on DVD. Us Brits only get the first six episodes (Given we made it, I can't see the logic there...). Oh, well.

But yeah. Far, far too many classic quotes, so I'll give you a sample:

The whole "Hoomite Yubi" scene from No Sax Please, We're Egyptian.

Von Goosewing's Creature: "And my mouth feels like it is zer bottom of a trashcan... Oh. Oh, it is zer bottom of a trashcan."
- One Stormy Night

Duckula: "Nanny, you'll have to use your feminine wiles to seduce the guard!"
Nanny: "I could give 'im me manual on Engine Maint'nance, 'e might like that..."
- Transylvanian Homesick Blues

And of course, the Mutinous Penguins, which is just pure, unalloyed genius from start to finish.

Duckula: "According to my calculations, the castle should be... here"
Cap'n: "But that be the South Sea sir! Ooh, there's nothin' there but water sir. It's enough to drive a man mad, I tell ye. Mad! Maaad, ahahahaaa!
Duckula: "Well then, you must have been there quite a bit."
Mr. Mate: "Oi! Anyone 'oo talks to my cap'n like that, I bites their 'eads orf!"
Igor: "Ah! A man after my own heart!"
Mr. Mate: "Aye, an' anything else I can get me teeth into."

Cap'n: "Tie 'em to the yardarm, men!"
Mr. Mate: "We ain't got a yardarm, Cap'n. I ate it last week."
Cap'n: "Well then, what 'ave we got?"
Mr. Mate: "We got a comfy sofa, Cap'n."
Cap'n: "I can't say, 'Tie 'em to the comfy sofa!"
Mr. Mate: "It's all that's left, Cap'n."
Cap'n "All right then. Tie 'em to the... comfy sofa!"

Duckula: "You rats, you weasels, you skunks, you... you..."
Nanny: "Giraffes!"
Duckula: "Yes, you giraffes!... Giraffes!?"

Cap'n: "Prepare to fire grape shot!"
Mr. Mate: "Cap'n, couldn't we use pineapples, it'd 'urt more than grapes..."

And so on...

AndrewTaylor

I made a recursive program for that Fibonacci thing. I opened it 14 hours ago to find the 83rd or so position in the Fibonacci system, and it's still not finished. And yes, it does work. I tried with lower numbers.
The function has called itself 165,520,808 times so far.
I made another version using a regular loop. I'd guess it took less than a millisecond with 83. In fact, it only took a second with 16,000,000. (However, with printing progress like in the recursive one, it'd only do 1,500 per second)

That's impressive work. How did you find such an inefficient way to emulate five lines of code?

I think five lines. This is how I think it's done:x=y=1;
for (i=1; i<target; ++i)
{
y+=x;
x=y-x;
}
printf ("%i", x);

UnKnown X
3 Nov 2005, 23:10
Yeah, that's basically how my regular loop worked, but the recursive function, on the other hand, was not as successful...

Oh, and did I say 83rd? I meant 40th. It just finished:

"102334155 is the 40th Fibonacci number
204668309 recursions"

The inefficiency was mostly because of this:

return (fib(n-2)+fib(n-1));

I doubt it. I think it works by editing one post and deleting the rest. The remaining post is chosen from a list of merged ones and marked as "edited by" the mod -- who can, if they want to, edit the merged message as they please before finishing the merge. I think me and thomasp can actually hard-delete posts that way, though it still leaves the "edited by" line on a post somewhere.

Anyway, the point is that the merged post is entered in an edit box much like the one I'm typing this into, so you probably couldn't bypass the character limit with it.

I've been known to sit up chatting and drinking with friends all night at least twice, and I've found myself awake on my own all night at least twice. One was an overnight flight, but it was an overnight flight to Menorca, so it only lasted an hour or two. I was the only person awake the following day. I tend not to notice it, really. Next door to Essex and North London.

Apparently, my parents (who live not far from Stansted Galactic Airport, as it will soon be called :mad: ) heard the explosions and initially thought the chimneys had come down (we live in an old farm house). After a quick inspection, they thought a plane had crashed at the airport (when that Korean Air 747F crashed at Stansted in 2000ish, it made a big bang, even 15 miles away from the airport). They were then puzzled by the lack of sirens from police/fire/ambulance that would normally be associated with an aircrash. They turned the radio on and heard about the explosion.

And I missed it all up here in Loughborough :(
