I've become a fairly good shot with a blowgun over this last weekend.
Cacti are really satisfying to shoot. The only thing funner than shooting a cactus with a dart is slashing it up with a knife. They're so thick you can really get the knife into them. (introduced varieties - I'm doing nature a favor)

I used to shoot rocks at Cacti with that elastic based rock shoothing thing(don't know it's name in english) whenever we went to my grandfather's old ranch which was surrounded by a bahzillion of those.
It is indeed very fun, we used to see who perforated the most with a single rock.
And I once killed a bird with a rock that way, altough I was just trying to scare it off...(honest...)
:-/

And I once killed a frog that way too.
And then some kid told me that the frogs would revenge in the night, that they would come in dozens.
And the next day we got a really big and ugly frog, and my grandfather killed it with a big rock.
And then it misteriously dissapeared after a while.

Having finally got around to playing Eric The Unready (which Ev has been relentlessly reccomending since I've known him) past the copy-protection (since they cleverly didn't include the manual in the download), I have found it to be most strange.
It feels like a kids' game then it tells me to **** off. So that's mixed messages.
Then I solved a lot of it rather easily but now I'm trapped in a puzzle that feels a lot like the getting-the-babel-fish-from-the-dispenser puzzle in the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy game and then I get killed for taking too long over it. This game is crazy and I demand an explanation.

All right ladies and miscellaneous. Here's what you've all been waiting for.
That's right! More pointless contraptions and oddities!
This is all just pasted from another forum as usual, since I'm too thick to type it all over. From three different posts I made, to be specific.
"[Aww. . . (http://img54.exs.cx/img54/6339/gmconstruct00350ye.jpg)]

As a very old, retarded man, but he still lives!
[Hitler Taking a Bath (http://img93.exs.cx/img93/2645/gmconstruct00475dw.jpg)]"
"First off, we have the [Bird Stapled to a Chair on a Skiing Box (http://img55.exs.cx/img55/9476/gmconstruct00481ng.jpg)]
Next is [Kleiner with Seagull Dangling from Groin (http://img55.exs.cx/img55/7716/gmconstruct00526ed.jpg)] - Before you go all psycho: Kleiner is holding around the zombie's thigh, and the bird is actually hanging in a rope attached to Kleiner's lower gut. Interpret as you wish, though. . .
Third one today is [An Extremely Odd but Working Contraption (http://img55.exs.cx/img55/1765/gmconstruct00564pb.jpg)]
Number four is the [Woman Having a Feasty Meal (no, you pervert) (http://img55.exs.cx/img55/8541/gmconstruct00533he.jpg)]
Last, but certainly not least, it's the [Car with Nitro with Nitro with Nitro with Nitro with Nitro with Nitro with Nitro Cone with Nitro Cone with Baloons with Watermelon Textures (http://img55.exs.cx/img55/6716/gmconstruct00631ed.jpg)]
The last one is actually quite interesting. It accelerated from about 0 to 300 km/h (190 - 195 mph) in a matter of seconds. It had no control since the nitrous boosters would flap around and send it in all directions. Including up, down, around, etc. But rarely forward. Sitting inside it was slightly weird since all I could see was a map spinning 'round and 'round and 'round and 'round. First when I created it, the nitro containers at the back got too little support and became too heavy, so they dragged along the ground. So I decided to add some baloons. It worked like magic, actually, since not only do they lift up the nitro containers, but they also lighten the weight a bit, making the car fly around randomly, which is always fun."

Hey UX. PCG UK were offering a game for someone who could build a working rocket.
The contest's finished now, but try your hand at it!
They also included a screenie of a modified buggy. They put two gas canisters on each axle, one beside each wheel, then turned on the gas in them and caused the buggy to start bouncin'.
But it was just a screenie. They said it worked, tho. Try it!

On the plus side, when it got frustating, you could just slap your creature until all frustation was gone
And if that didn't do it, you could always throw villagers around, or throw rocks at them
Or have your creature eat them

:pi always teached my creature to eat villagers. it keeps the towns' population under control :)
i find B&W to be very frustating since being evil clearly wasn't as fun as it was advertised. well yes, it was much more fun than being good, but you didn't get any rewards on missions, i couldn't get everyone to obey me from fear (they either ran or died), and the villagers were still whiny little *****es.
i mean come on, it's THEIR job to build the town and get food/wood and take good care of the crops... otherwise i would've sticked with SimCity.
and using fireballs to turn villagers to your side, although very powerful at long-range, meant lots of rebuilding was in order when the village was yours, or it'd be pretty worthless. though i did get my hand half-evil looking.
oh, and storing the creature stats in the registry was just plain silly when saved games and such weren't. oh yeah, i get to keep my progress and saved games, but now i gotta beat this really hard mission with a worthless creature
and... meh, i could go on forever ranting about why B&W wasn't as good as it could've been. indefinitely. but i won't :p
From what I understand, B&W1's release was rushed. There has never been even an estimated release date for B&W2, so they're doing things exactly as they want, and everything that was wrong with 1 is being fixed while everything that was right is being improved.

Indeed. Apparently Lionhead's biggest blunder was, believe it or not, giving an estimated release date. Then, as development of the game seemed to be wrapping up, bugs were discovered that then begat more serious bugs; small adjustments to the level of balance required revamping practically every other area of the gameplay, and so forth. In the meantime, the pressure was building because they had gone way past the original planned release date, and finally, about 2 years or so after the game was originally going to be out, they wound up releasing it, bugs and all.
That's why they're not going to give any estimates on B&W 2. Some are saying that we may see it as early as May or August this year, others say it might be out around the holidays, and in reality it may be delayed into 2007 or '08 for all we know.

:pYeah, trouble is, I wanted to play a good god, so I couldn't do that.
The problem is, you're trying to micromanage your village(s) AND look after your creature AND complete all the missions and side-quests, all at the same time.
SupSuper
20 Mar 2005, 16:01
i've said it before and i'll say it again, the villagers are the worst bit about the game. it's like micro-management taken too far, people who won't do absolutely anything unless you tell them to.
except whining. they whine if you're good, they whine if you're bad, and they whine if you're throwing them around to shut them up :p
mind you, they even got themselves easily killed on mission 4 (the one where you return to your homeland to find everything wrecked). seriously, it seemed like they were attracted to the lightning storms and fireballs. ohhhh, shiny... ZAP!
though, i liked the atmosphere :)

That's why the logic doesn't apply to IE users.
Firefox users have brains. Opera users have brains. IE users don't have brains.
This means that I can say "more people with brains use Firefox!". I can't say "More people with brains use IE!" because most people that use IE *don't* have brains.
So I don't get why you posted "using that logic applied to IE users" or whatever, when you can't apply that logic to IE users.

I think really to settle this you'd have to ask a representative group of Firefox and Opera users to name browsers they've tried, and then work out from that what proportion of people who've tried both use which.
But of course nobody can be bothered to do that.

Another product of my deranged mind:
And so there were these three guys who looked like chineese waitresses who decided to eat a pile of chile the night before who then exploded into a billion pieces. The force of the explosion was felt as far away as Paris, France, and as near as Belgium, where the explosion took place, disregarding that the guys were in Turkey. Soon, the telephone rang in one of the effected areas, and a big fat skinny guy named Frank got up to pick up the phone when suddenly his left artery exploded and he died in a pile of blood where he was found several years later, so old and decayed that nobody was able to determine his cause of death. In order to attract an audience, the media channels waged wars blowing the event out of proportion and making wild and crazy claims as to why and how this man died. Not one news agency correctly speculated that he died of natural causes, much less from an artery explosion, and not a soul even considered for a moment that this artery explosion was caused by a chili imbalence in his kidney, which it wasn't.

I saw an article in a game magazine earlier today that showed a version of Zelda: Wind Waker that isn't cell shaded. Apparently if you preorder the new Zelda game sometime this April you'll get a copy of it.
And no, it's not the same with a different shading engine - Link looks normal and his head is in proportion to the rest of his body. And the enemies have nice textures.

I just watch Pulp Fiction this weekend. It's a great movie with excellent dialogue. If you like this movie you should watch the other Tarantino films such as Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs. They are excellent movies. And if you like Tarantino go see Rodriguez films like El Mariachi and Desporado, and defenitely go see Sin City. They are some of my favorite movies. They are very different which is one reason they are so great. I can understand if you don't like them though, because they are quite wierd, but I like that so meh.:p

i now have all of the TIM series games:
- The Incredible Machine
- The Even More Incredible Machine
- The Incredible Machine 2
- The Incredible Machine 3
- Return of The Incredible Machine: Contraptions
- Return of The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions
as well as the similiar series:
- Sid & Al's Incredible Toons
- The Incredible Toon Machine
ho-hum.
Which ones are your favourites SupSuper? I think I've only played 1 & 2, and was thinking of getting some again.
I played TIM, TIM2, and the The Incredible Toon Machine. All fine games.

I'd say the third, probably.
The first two are great and all, but the low res no sound, generall DOSness of them can get annoying. The fourth one is too hard to control and graphically unengaging. And also not funny.

Which ones are your favourites SupSuper? I think I've only played 1 & 2, and was thinking of getting some again.most of them are pretty much the same, so they're all good, but the originals (TIM 1 and 2) are the best. and TITM is also great with all the crazy cartoony anthics.
here's what each game is like:
- The Incredible Machine: the first, with time-based scoring system, code-based progression (you complete a level you get a code), only 2 music tracks and a bunch of puzzles to keep you entertained.
- The Even More Incredible Machine: same as above, but with new puzzle items.
- The Incredible Machine 2: completely improved for the better. dumped the scoring system, added much more (and new) puzzles now organized by categories (including tutorial ones), many new puzzle items, storage of your progress, an actual main menu, sign-in, more music tracks, two-player mode, backgrounds and help system. oh, and Professor Tim. imo, the best one from the series.
- The Incredible Machine 3: same as above, but for Windows, with voice from Professor Tim and Parts Bin organized by categories to make it easier to browse when making your own machines.
- Return of The Incredible Machine: Contraptions: modernized version of the above. new graphics, new music (including digital music besides the MIDI one), new interface. overall better looking, but still the same puzzles and items from TIM3. at least they didn't ruin the formula.
and the puzzles are now called contraptions instead of machines
- Return of The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions: completely new puzzles for those that were fed up with the same old ones. oh, and Puzzle Swap option to trade puzzles online, but it doesn't work.
we should have a thread to share the crazy puzzles we do (even if some aren't for you to spend hours to solve but just overall crazy), but i think most ppl just solve puzzles, they don't make them.
- Sid & Al's Incredible Toons: same gameplay as TIM (and same author), but in a funny, crazy, cartoony way. not as complex but still hard and great fun.
only thing that bugs me is that you can't "program" solutions to your homemade puzzles (like in TIM) since there's no "checkered flag" option on items.
- The Incredible Toon Machine: Windows version of the above.

System Shock 2. The engine is far, far better. SS1 has a doom style engine, but much clunkier. SS2 has a proper 3D engine.
MonkeyforaHead
17 Apr 2005, 23:28
I'd say 2 as well. 1 is insanely hard to get to work; it doesn't run well (or at all) on its own, and running it in DosBox slows things down to an intolerable crawl. 2 I think requires a little patch to work on XP, but that's it.

Another fun trick is to put icons into the picture and then disable desktop icons.
It's usually easiest to simply print-screen the old desktop.
Edit: The computers at school had a mouse calibration tool that let you move the mouse straight up and it'd recalibrate the mouse to that angle. Drag it down and everything's backwards! Fun!
