I think it's rather useless since it doesn't damage the opponent, although it does give her the chance to knock them out of the ring.
Well, it does allow her to gain a serious amount of extra life, and be able to launch an opponent while they're asleep.
Of course, it's gonna be brutal when she's part of a team! Especially when those teamates have a really powerful special move!

Well its about time we all talk about the GREATEST game ever to please our consoles EVER.... GTA IV

oh my gosh, "Next gen" doesn't even cover how INSANELY kickass, GTA IV is going to be.... man oh man. just check out the trailers.

And trust me, even those barely show you 8% of the game...

For more GREAT INDEPTH info on gta iv, look at the leading Fan site for gta...
appropriately named....GTAgaming.com....

To kinda explain how GREAT gta iv will be... They compare the difference of gta 2 (2D) to GTA 3 (3D)...... as the same as GTA san andreas to GTA IV

graphics have been overhauled like crazy... (HIGH DEFINITION YEAH)

no more clone pedestrians, you will never see the same pedestrian, in any one area, but i did see two woman who looked the same, (face, hairstyle) but they were dressed completly different, and were holding different items...

NO MORE POP UP COPS.... probably the greatest improvement ever...
one of the most annoying things with all gta's, is you hide behind a wall, no cop can see you, but 20 of them will be running aimlessly into the wall behind you.... or you can turn around, see 3 cops running at you, turn around again, and then back again, and they would be gone.... very sucky....

But they have fixed it to PERFECTION.... cops work on LINE OF SIGHT, plus you get 2 search radius's. that you have to escape from... BRILLIANT.

There will be no more, walking into your local AMMUNATION, and buying a BAZOOKA over the counter.... oh no no...

Now its REAL... you have to use your cell phone.. YES CELL PHONE... and call a dealer, to set up a deal, anywhere in the city, and you can still get busted, if the cops catch wind of it, or even witness the exchange... so COOL!!!

you can walk into INTERNET cafes all over the city, to email people, access the net, see whats going on in the city... VERY COOL...

They have modeled gta iv, on NEW YORK CITY....

the map is huge, not as large as san andreas, but imagine all the cities of san andreas, squeezed into one MEGA CITY... plus in san andreas, there were PLENTY of dead spots. eg desert, wilderness, where nothing happens ever at all... in GTA IV... there are NO dead spots....

When you or pedestrians walk, its not the same dumb animation over and over, but complete PHYSICS... meaning your guys moves with the world...
WOW... same with the DRIVING...

bullets are real time too... doing real time damage to your cars... leaving holes exactly where you shot... plus its cool to see the way your windscreen gets cracked and shatters... awesome...

no longer can you just walk up to a car, and pull open the door and hijack it.
Now you must smash the window, unlock the car, get inside, and then still wait as he hot wires the car, and depending how you approach a car, depends on how he will smash windows, etc... being different every time...
and thats just for empty parked cars... if someone is inside.. different story...
AWESOME....

i have barely even touched all the kickass features of gta iv...
But im sure i got you all HOOKED already....

GTA IV greatest game ever....

(coming soon we hope) possibly 1st april (USA release)

Akuryou13
23 Oct 2007, 13:40
so what you're saying is that it:

-will have graphics on par with all new computer/PS3/360 games
-will not have the crappy glitches of the last games
-will require more work to get good equipment

I AM rather impressed with the randomly generated character models for NPCs, though.

HackerMan
23 Oct 2007, 13:53
Yes thats exactly what im saying, expect for the graphics being on par with the latest PC games...

The effects are insanely cool, done excellent, but none of us have seen the END RESULT of the graphics, but the videos give a good indication... but the SHADOWS are OFF THE HOOK... i love them so much, the lighting is brilliant, the HDR EFFECT is the best i have ever witnessed... amazing...

only when the final game gets released will we see the graphics properly...
The videos don't show everything...

Here's something else thats really cool, YOU CAN CLIMB LIKE EVERYWHERE..
up telephone polls, street lamps, buildings (i think)...

You run the game, at your own pace, meaning you INITIATE, all the main missions, when YOU feel its the right time, you will hardly get missions FORCED UPON you, to do straight away, you decide how and when the game progresses...

and once again, i have barely touched 40% of the new improvements...

as for the POP up issues, im not sure if they will all be gone...
But i got a feeling they will be fixed...

You can NO LONGER fly planes, thats where most of the pop ups were discovered... but YOU CAN FLY helicopters...

you no longer get fat thin/work out... eat... because quite frankly they were a waste in SAN ANDREAS... you would work out till you totally buff, and then that was it...

You can still change your clothes... phone people up, and arrange meetings...

One thing i know, is when you get a mission, there can be MULTIPLE ways of solving it...

This was from the demo they showed at e3 (i think)

The mission is you gotta assassinate some lawyer guy...
so if you want, drive on over, walk through the door, find his office
and blast him to hell...

or you can be clever, phone the lawyer's firm, ask for a job interview, go in with no suspision. and when he's blabbing away about your future at the company, you can then whip out your gun, and blast him away.... etc etc....

its amazing what they doing... THIS IS THE WHOLE and ONLY REASON IM BUYING AN XBOX 360....

Akuryou13
23 Oct 2007, 14:02
climbing thing is pretty cool, too.

but really. it's just another GTA game, just with some added mechanics. I mean, that's nice and all, but it's hardly the best game ever.

and as for the graphics, consoles can't support graphics on the level of maxxed-out crysis (granted, from my understanding, neither can computers at this point), so don't try to make it sound like they're going to be the best ever. go look at head-shots of crysis characters :p

sorry but i have to YAWN AT YOU....

come on crysis has great graphics... thats it...
you finsh the game in 8 hours... come on theres NO comparison.
GTA IV has about 6 months CONSTANT GAMING TIME...

you will see when it comes out... and no its not just a few improvements...
ITS A COMPLETELY INSANE OVERHAUL.... check it out if you dont believe me.

Plus crysis will have better graphics, BUT IT DOESNT HAVE A 24 HOUR WEATHER SYSTEM... crysis is but a bug (gameplay wise) to GTA IV

come on crysis has great graphics... thats it...

GTA IV has about 6 months CONSTANT GAMING TIME...uh....all I said about crysis is that it has amazing graphics. I have no idea what teh gameplay will be like for the singleplayer, but it's not going to be anything more than a good shooter game.

besides, you've played neither game. how do you even KNOW how much gaming time is in each? and hell, crysis has equally long gaming time, as it's got a multiplayer mode, which is going to be at least as fun as the sand-box that is GTA4. personally, I would rather play crysis's multiplayer (I've played the beta. it is fun) than GTA4, but even then that's irrelevant, as I was simply talking about the graphics in the first place.

HackerMan
23 Oct 2007, 14:22
well my info comes straight from the companies THEMSELVES...

Rockstar said the game play time... 6 months constant MINIMUM...

and Crysis creators ruined it for everyone by saying it would be all over in 8 hours, definatly a bad marketing angle....

Crysis graphics will be better, but i feel they will also be pretty static...
whereas GTA IV's interact with what happens in the world...
Crysis will simply blow a few holes here and there, in gta iv there is alot of destructible objects and things...

But we all gotta wait to see... But mark my words GTA fan or not...
its the way it all comes together... in a bundle of EXCELLENCE..

and no crysis will not be played for as long as GTA iv...
its multiplayer function perhaps... but i hope it doesnt become the "NEW" counter strike... that damn game is still going online...

oh plus i forgot to say.. GTA IV HAS MULTIPLAYER... WOO HOO

Akuryou13
23 Oct 2007, 15:07
Rockstar said the game play time... 6 months constant MINIMUM...that's either a blatant lie or they're factoring in time spent playing the sand box stuff for the hell of it. hard drives can't support enough game data for 6-months of constant playing

and Crysis creators ruined it for everyone by saying it would be all over in 8 hours, definatly a bad marketing angle.... it's called honesty in advertising. something companies that want nothing but money don't often follow. crytek, however, seems to be trying to make an awesome experience rather than the most money they possibly can (obviously, they're trying to make as much as they can, but I mean their priority seems to be making it sell by making it a good game)

Crysis graphics will be better, but i feel they will also be pretty static...

Or Not 'the let's argue about GTA untill a the thread gets locked thread'.

I thought I'd start the new one this time, I hope Pigbuster doesn't mind.

This is a thread for everyone (yes, even us n00b non-gamers who haven't completed every single sierra adventure game or finished tetris) to discus upcoming videogames, share videogame related news, you know, general videogame gabbing.

This thread is not for fanboyish ranting. You're allowed to like a game, but for the love of god please understand that not everyone likes the same stuff that you do. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

It would be nice to get a little more discussion going here than last time, so what do you folks think about the new Xbox360 arcade SKU?

Is the name misleading, as you won't be able to enjoy much of the Live Arcade without buying a hard drive?
Will the low price point make the console more competitive with the Wii?

Also, I hear the new GTA game will look pretty and sell well.

I was actually surprised. the graphics are amazing, of course, but the gameplay is ACTUALLY really good too. the AI is pretty damn intelligent (what little of it is in the demo, anyway), the physics are amazing, what with plants bending as someone walks through them. the missions make sense and the plot seems to be pretty good so far (though in the demo all you really get is that you're a strike force sent to wipe out the korean presence wherever you are, it's actually presented pretty well).

I guess we CAN have our cake and eat it too. go figure.

Continuing my coverage of the GameFAQs quarter-finals, anyone think today's is a bit odd?

QF1: Samus Aran, Mega Man, Cloud Strife, Ryu from Street Fighter (Samus and Cloud through)
QF2: Sepiroth, Mario, Link, Vincent Valentine (Sepiroth and Link through)
QF4: Solid Snake, the L-Block from Tetris, Sonic, Squall Leonhart (hasn't happened yet).

But in QF3 we have: Master Chief, Luigi, Pikachu, Dante. Just a bit weak compared to the other three.

The results so far are fairly even, with MC 2% ahead of Dante who's 3% ahead of Luigi who's 5% ahead of Pikachu.

I voted Luigi. It'd be hilarious if he got further than Mario.

EDIT: Oh, by the way: Laharl was knocked out by Kirby and L-Block in the first round. Sorry Melon :o)

I've only played tactics advance, but I'd have to say I enjoyed it more than disgaea.

It plays a whiole lot slower, but I prefer a game in which you don't have to break the game engine in order to avoid hundreds of hours of grinding.

Or, you know, just use the random dungeon feature (item world, whatever) so you won't have to replay the same cave of ordeals battle over and over again.

Plus, the main story requires no grinding; just the extra stuff.

Holy crap! There's a competition to win an outrageously large $1000 by creating a game with a "winter" theme.
The only drawback, you have to use Game Maker.
Fortunately for me, most games made with Game Maker are rubbish. I'm sure I could do a better job. Point-and-click adventure game anyone?

To be honest, that's a stupid sum of money for a Game Maker competition.

Played it last week and got to level 44 on BB and level 21 on RI.
Both of them are so damn HARD!

I only just figured out that you could jump off Bubbles by holding down jump. Geez, how stupid was I, not knowing that? :p

Not so much violent games, more of a situation of playing games based entirely around themes that a young kid shouldn't be exposed to.

Although, then again, there's not much funnier than a young Californian kid trying to be 'ghetto'.

Right... so in other words you are one of them people who don't agree with 12 year olds playing violent games right?wrong. if you were playing Halo, I'd say nothing against it. hell, if you were playing Half Life I wouldn't really say anything against it. those games are violent, yes, but there's nothing particularly amoral about them. I have nothing against kids playing violent games, as long as they're old enough to understand what's going on (which I'd say is probably around 10 or so), but games like Grand Theft Auto are games that should barely be played by adults, much less pre-teens. the game teaches nothing but immorality, rebellion, and corruption. everything that's in the game is an example of the worst that humanity has to offer, and no one under the age of 18 (varies from person to person) should be allowed to play that.

parents who allow kids your age to play games like grand theft auto are solely responsible for when kids grow up with serious problems. the kids of those sorts of parents normally end up either messed up in the head or extremely immature. and btw, I'm not saying you're going to have those issues, just that you have a higher chance to. too many other factors effect that outside of just your parents.

and yes, despite that philby put it far too harshly, parents who allow young children to play video games and watch movies with extreme adult themes do so because they simply don't care enough to watch their kid closely and monitor what it is that they're playing/watching. not to say that your mom doesn't love you as I'm quite certain she does, she's just irresponsible.

Listen to this, and then the arguments over. Okay? now about 4 days ago, i bought Grand theft Auto San andreas from gamestation. And the man who was serving me just gave it to me, without even asking what my age was! My parents let me, but i am telling you now, i play it like its a game. I am not totally addicted to it, and i play worms more. Now obiviously some people will disagree with this, but i am not the only one. About 63% of my country are allowed to play violent games like GTA. I have read it on the internet, and a lot of parents are letting them play it. If you disagree then tell the ESRB. Also, its not just irresponsible parents, its sometimes the irresponsible servers at gamestation. Y'know this Super Smash Brawl game, is it out in the UK? i heard that the US will have it in February.

Weeeeee, down the hill we go!

@Aku: The game does not "teach" anything, any more than a game like Halo or Half-Life. It does not advocate the subject material. It is just that, a game. The fact that those things happen in real life does not lessen the distinction between that and a game. And if someone cannot make that distinction, then they should not be playing anything (And the parents would most certainly be horrendous in that case).

(Besides, what about books? There are no end of those that are all about the things you describe. And not all of them particularly aimed at older audiences either)

Now, regardless, that does not mean games like that cannot have an effect on people, particularly young kids. But I can only assume that Shadowmoon's parents (And others to their own) monitor him, and are not seeing any such effects, changes in behavior or suchlike (And when you are younger, such changes are more obvious). If they did, then they should most certainly prevent him from playing.

And, another problem is what is "too far" or, say, what exactly "extreme adult themes" entails. Just because other people's views are laxer - or stronger - than yours, does not necessarily make them irresponsible/wrong, or indeed the reverse.

(That last bit was not really aimed at you, just people in general)

I am probably going to regret this post in the morning as it may well be a mess and have come out wrong since I suck at expressing ideas properly, but oh well. :p

"The ESRB and PEGI are working together to stop games from being sold to people under the age specified on the game cover. This should help control the alarming situation of children being allowed to play violent games, and sometimes, games about drug abuse, sex, and murdering for money."

I agree with Aku here. It's basically teaching you how to break the law, and being disrespectful to the policemen who do their jobs to protect the ones who are frightened to gout out at night, and the frail, disabled, and elderly, by saying stuff like "It's the pigs! Get them!".

The fact that those things happen in real life does not lessen the distinction between that and a game. And if someone cannot make that distinction, then they should not be playing anything (And the parents would most certainly be horrendous in that case).it's more of the themes present really. doesn't necessarily teach kids to go around killing hookers and such (although there are extreme cases in which idiots kill people and video games get blamed for it obviously, but that's not what I'm referring to.), but it's the exposure to the themes that's the problem. a 12 year old shouldn't be allowed to watch R-rated movies or play games like GTA. this includes books, music, TV shows, and everything else with those themes in them. sex, drugs and senseless violence and the like are things that should not be viewed by a younger audience. it has backlash on the minds of younger people. doesn't really too much matter how they experience the themes.

(Besides, what about books? There are no end of those that are all about the things you describe. And not all of them particularly aimed at older audiences either)well then those books shouldn't be made if they're targetting younger audiences specifically.

Now, regardless, that does not mean games like that cannot have an effect on people, particularly young kids. Just because other people's views are laxer - or stronger - than yours, does not necessarily make them irresponsible/wrong, or indeed the reverse.I don't care who you are, having sex with random hookers and then running them over to get your money back is an "extreme adult theme". sure, the definition isn't defined by one set thing as it's a matter of opinion, but if you don't consider sleeping with prostitutes and then murdering them to be adult then I question what you DO consider to be adult...

(That last bit was not really aimed at you, just people in general)don't worry, you conveyed it well enough for me to know that was the case.

My thoughts overall:

-Smash Bros Brawl will be epic.
-GTA 4 will be the same thing again, but with fancy graphics.
-We will not stop younger audiences to stop playing those games. It's their problem, but becomes ours if they think that what they see in those games is good.
-I don't like the feel of hand lotion.
-Use a door to prevent people from invading your house.
-Bomberman was a good game, but if the game aims on minigames, there's something wrong there.
-Potatoes. Eat them.
-Mario Galaxy is awesome.
-I want a remake of Rayman Designer on the DS.
-Go to school, kids!

I think that sums it up.

Ive never seen so much worry about under-age gaming (outside of those whose job it is to worry, of course). Noone I know hasnt watched films they are too young to watch and played games they are too young for, Im not saying that makes it right, just that I never realised anyone actually worried about the 'damaging influence of blah blah blah...' :-/ Besides, the age rating system is merely a system simplified to become enforcable, yet one that has lost in all meaning in its simplification. The 'age' is supposed to be a measure of one's maturity and how easily influenced they are, but as everyone knows this varies too hugely from person to person to be accurately enforced. And if it could? Would you really suggest denying a 30 something year old guy with a job etc. from buying a 'violent' game, just because he is clearly a moron? No, that would be stupid. The gaming industry would collapse and we would be left with tv to game adaptations of kids cartoons and endless crappy minigame compilations. And that, would quite obviously, suck.

Actually, here's a way to show you why I don't want 12-year-olds to be playing GTA:

Consider how many weeaboos there are. Now consider whether most of them are like that because:
A: They are very interested in future job prospects in Japan and want to become involved in Japanese culture for preparation.
B: They were induced by media.
If you chose 'B', then consider what they'd be like if they had been induced by GTA rather than Japanese-based games/comics/art/etc.
Now do you see why I consider it a problem?

Kids dont get to see porn on GTA. They can go to wikipedia and say that wikipedia is educational. and they see more on Wikipedia. (thats what my friend say)porn isn't psycologically damaging. it's just something adults would rather kids not see. by the time you're 12 or so most kids are finding ways to look at porn in some way or another, and by that age it's pretty much ok. one of those things that it shouldn't be allowed, but that happens regardless and isn't that much of a problem as far as development goes. the lesson should be more along the lines that at 12 you shouldn't be allowed to be doing those things rather than that you shouldn't be interested. WANTING to see it at 12 is fine, but be allowed to is something completely different and something that teaches the wrong lessons too early.

I think it depends on the person.

Yes, but people actually becoming extremely violent just because of a video game is so, so rare that the only people who worry about it are middle-aged mothers that are also paranoid about paedophiles lurking on every corner of the internet, and probably think a dog is good protection against 4chan.
What I am talking about is the chances of a kid choosing 'gangster life' as a rolemodel because of this game, which is much more likely.

more about discipline than the violence issue. I've been playing violent games since I was 5, and I couldn't bring myself to get into a fight unless I had to, much less actually kill somoene.

and all those warnings aren't really doing much these days, seeing as everyone on TV is making music videos with near-naked women dancing around guys, and the content of those videos are equally dirty. movies are just as bad half the time, and video games are slowly working on it. point isn't to remove the fun from it, it's to stop all the negative influences from getting kids to jump in the sac at 13.

Yes but i[sic] didnt[sic] say just things that can do damage?[sic] I said EVERYTHING.

Well, if you believe society is progressing towards making enjoying anything and everything frowned upon, then you are a complete and utter idiot! I really hope this doesn't cause infraction points, but there really isn't any nicer way to say it, at all. You would have to be literally living under a rock for the better part of your life to even think that!

Unless when you say "I said EVERYTHING", you're talking about a different post on a completely different topic.

There's just no argument against it. It's just wrong. Debating it is about as futile as debating how adding and subtracting work.

Is that the Fiscal Quarter or the Normal Quarter? In the Fiscal Quarter, that'll be may-july.

I think Q1 is between January to March. Q2, is April-June and Q3 is July-September. And Q4 is October-December. I think Q1 is around Spring. I don't really know if it is the fiscal quarter, but the game website usually puts games on their website when a game will be released in less than 4 months, so to answer your question, i think it will be released Between January and March.

so you can most likely expect it something around the same time as us, which is usual. you'll just probably have to wait another month or so most likely.

Release dates are as accurate as using a metre-rule to measure the diameter of a human hair. They are only accurate on or after the day of release.

Also, any website that is not the publisher's site or the game developer's site will have the wrong release date, because only the publisher or developer know the true release date.

"The Wii needs more good 3rd party titles!"
"Indeed it does! But even so, let's not go to the launch event for No More Heroes anyway!"
http://kotaku.com/gaming/suda51/mini+skirt-or-not-no-more-customers-331771.php

Now, maybe Japan isn't so intent on supporting 3rd party games, and the game is supposedly more tuned to the western market, but it's still depressing to hear about this.
If there was that kind of promotion over here, I'd try to convince my family into taking a trip to wherever it is. A signed copy of the game AND promotional toilet paper? WOO!
Of course, this may just be a case of the bad-event-advertising blues.

I hope the American launch goes better. The Wii is not going to get any good 3rd party games unless consumers actually support 3rd party games.

Zero Punctuation Review of Super Mario Galaxy (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/2768-Zero-Punctuation-Super-Mario-Galaxy)

 What's this? A review that doesn't worship the ground this game's CD falls onto?

philby4000

That was pretty weak review.

I'm not sure what would have been gained by playing SMG with a gamecube controller, as it's a game primarily concerned with two buttons and an analogue stick. plus then you'd loose the neat doo-dad collecting pointer.

As for the humour, all we've got is the same old 'peach should have sex with mario', 'bowser isn't excluded from the numerous spinoff sports games' and 'some of the situations sound strange out of context'. although I did get a chuckle out of the apearance of Monk and the return of uncle tusky.

Aparantly he's really funny untill he makes fun of a game you like.

That's because, as reviews, they're really inaccurate. So much so that you just feel he's pulling it out of his **** just so that he could be humerous. You just don't notice that in most of the games because, for most of the games, you never actually played them enough.

You just don't notice that in most of the games because, for most of the games, you never actually played them enough.I dunno, I played Tabula Rasa, BioShock and Orange Box and pretty well agree with his assessment of all 3, good and bad points. Mario Galaxy was just a really weak review. it wasn't funny, it was hardly relevant to the actual game (mostly he reviewed the series as a whole), and his criticisms just didn't make any sense. I can give him quite a few of the points he made, but saying that it had horrible camera? that it was ruined by the wii remote?! it seemed like he was TRYING to come up with reasons to hate it.

and I'm not just sticking up for mario as a fan, because galaxy was kinda watered down and bland as far as mario games go, but it was still good fun and plenty of it. I'm just saying he was pointlessly harsh.

You're all just upset because you expected a praising review like every other site and didn't get it. Every opinion to their own.

Plus I will admit that SMG's camera does make me want to throw a brick at the TV every now and then. I get the opposite problem with spinning though. It's so easy to spin that I accidentally do it when picking up stars with the cursor and mess my game all up.
