The real Enterprises can't fly or shoot either - they're usually models of the size of about ten feet.

You are quite lacking some mental cinema aren't you.

Sarcasm fail.

Ok, three reasons why Minecraft already is awesome:

1. A game with hardly any restrictions, you can do, explore and build whatever you want, it encourages the player's creativity.

2. The community, providing a variety of different servers filled with awesome creations by many different people, mods, and of course, playing with your friends on an own server is great fun, too.

3. Creepers.

Don't wanna say Terraria isn't going to be great, it's just probably not going to surpass Minecraft. Firstly because it's 2D and this will inevitably restrict constructiveness (although it should still be possible to create varieties of cool buildings) and second it's lacking a lot of... charm, I'd say. Yes, Minecraft has a cool charm actually, the characters, the environment and the soundtracks look and sound all pretty unique. Terraria, however, looks fairly generic to me. I also dislike the music playing in the trailer.

Terraria doesn't have pedo character models.

Sarcasm fail.

I wasn't being sarcastic. The movies lead us to believe that thing could fly, so why not just use your mental cinema in Minecraft to believe it could fly? I mean, if you really need it to be flying to accept it as the Enterprise. I thought it might be enough to see what amazing stuff people create using Minecraft, seriously.

I hadn't played Minecraft yet despite all the buzz over the last few years and this discussion encouraged me to go ahead and buy it.

I've only played it an hour but it's totally awesome! It scares the crap out of me though. I guess I'm just a huge wuss.

I'd built a nice little room in this hill that had coal near it right near where I started, and after my first night stepped outside my front door to grab some iron I saw as it was getting dark.

"Hsssssssssssssss"

Three goddamn creepers right behind me that were standing on top of the hill that ambushed me as I stepped outside. I jumped into the water only to discover the hard way that you move really slowly in shallow water. I somehow survived after the blast from the first one sent me flying, but it took out the entire wall of my little cave. One square away from blasting my chest I was storing all my stuff in too, I almost lost all my coal.

So exciting, great fun.

That's how we say it in German. Sorry if that weren't the right words.

No one wants you to build the Enterprise in Minecraft. It's actually about building houses to be safe at night, but you can of course place the blocks that way they look like the Enterprise. Then saying that the fact this thing can't fly is a lack of a feature is the most stupid thing I've ever heard.

The fun part of minecraft for me is not the building of cool stuff. It's having to find resources by exploring a vast land, spelunking down deep caves, digging huge mines, all while trying to survive. And then using those resources to build cool stuff. :p

What I said was that houses are the only *functional* thing you can build as they protect you from creepers and other baddies, but I just realised that's not even true :o You can build stairs, tunnels, portals and other stuff to reach other places for instance, and of course you can make these things look like whatever you want. Before you reply, yes I'm aware you are restricted to cubes though.

Oh, the recently added thunderstorms with lightning can also ignite wood.
There seems to be a bug that lightning can even strike inside houses. Not sure if this is on purpose.

If mobs can reach a 2-block radius around your bed, e.g. if it's placed along a 1-brick wall, they can spawn next to you and wake you up.
That means, place it in the middle of the room, not touching walls, or secure the outside with torches or a build a double wall.

So, PS3 users using certain custom firmware gained access to developer networks and were able to play games even though they were banned from the game. Then the firmware later gained an even more annoying feature Sony didn't like, the ability to buy stuff at no cost as credit card information isn't verified on the developers network.

Makes me wonder how insecure the developers network is as hackers could have used that to steal information or Sony is just using hackers as an excuse to shut down the free loaders.

Out of date, that whole article is based on speculation from before Sony came clean. That speculation turned out to be barking up the wrong tree, and Sony explained what actually happened yesterday (or the day before, whatever). It was also a bit more serious than 'free games!' and 'playing online while banned' as everyone's personal data was viewable by whoever was doing the hacking.

Also I don't remember where I saw it but I did the see the post by that 'Chesh' guy mentioned and even he didn't claim to be as certain as that article is.

Old news. Also, it was part of the same attack, not a new one:

SOE has provided us with the following statement, in which it confirms that its user data was stolen as part of the original intrusion -- not a second attack. "While the two systems are distinct and operated separately, given that they are both under the SONY umbrella, there is some degree of architecture that overlaps. The intrusions were similar in nature. This is NOT a second attack; new information has been discovered as part of our ongoing investigation of the external intrusion in April.

My Opinion: it's absolutely awesome. but buggy. as hell. I can't play for more than 30 minutes at a time because of the compatibility issues it seems to have with my graphics card (which is NVidia, oddly, despite everyone else having the same issue having it with ATI). When I CAN play, however, it's quite unique and interesting. I'd like to be able to sink my teeth into the campaign missions, as well as play around with some other game types, but thus far all I've been able to do is play the first two campaign missions and a fair chunk of challenges. that little bit shines like polished gold, however.

I played RTCW multiplayer for years with only 5(?) maps.
It doesn't really concern me at all, so long as the gameplay is engaging and you're not always reduced to constant stalemate slugfests in the middle somewhere.
But since Splash Damage have pretty much been using RTCW's format for all their games, I'm not too concerned. I approve of the apparent lack of vehicles.

The only interesting feature I've seen would be that there can actually be NPCs joining your town.

Rayman fans, rejoice! Rayman Origins is now a retail release! A FULL SEQUEL AND NOT EPISODIC! ABOUT BLOODY TIME.

http://www.videogamer.com/news/rayman_origins_listed_for_november_15.html

First I thought "Wow, that's cool, finally." Then I've seen it's XBox/PS3 only.

Grrr! Why not just develop that thing for PC, as a retail version or through Steam or something?
If it's not at least going to release on Wii as well, I'll have to skip this game, too :(

Why is it that ever since NSMBwii there's been a spate of awesome looking co-op sidescrollers, but all of them have been 2-player?

I want some more 4 player madness gfod damn it.

Wait wait, why were you expecting the building aspect to radically change within... one or two months?
Actually, how were you expecting the building aspect to change?

Also, I'm pretty sure they fixed the ridiculous enemy frequency fight after they made their LP.

Yes, why? Gaming and reporting sites are that unreliable I hardly even look at them anymore but rather get all the informations from game magazines I trust. Additionally, I've searched the web for more sites with recent news and Shadowmoon's site was pretty much the only one stating Ubisoft announced that game for Wii. I don't know which one to trust.

HUGE POSSIBLE STORY SPOILERS IN THE ABOVE LINK! I'M ONLY LINKING IT FOR THE VIDEO WHICH CONTAINS AUDIO FROM MW3.

Which caused Activison to react, and release some trailers, which we weren't even meant to see yet.

I love the fact that some of this game will take place in London. I love what I've heard so far, the map list looks like its got some variety too. So Terraria is pretty fun.

...I think. See, I got a four-pack for me and my friends, and we all played together. Problem is, we spent so much time messing around that we didn't do all that much exploring.
To the point that we're still on the basic starter gear.

But it's good fun nontheless! The multiplayer is brilliant though, since unlike a certain Minecraft it actually works even when there's lag.

Well, from what I did play:
It's like Minecraft, but a lot less focused on building and a lot more focused on being an action game.

Well, I only got to play about 45 min before work today(afternoon shifts suck) but I had fun, bought a copy for a bud of mine, and can't wait to start playing when I get back. Another 3 hours. The funny thing is, I started underwater, and found a chest one screen over, above ground, got flippers and a stick of dynamite, plus other stuff. And since I put a hole in my roof, a star fell right inside. I would say, an excellent start :)

Online lag or game lag?

Online there was a good bit of lag, at least for us four on at once. Like I said, certainly not crippling, but it gave the monsters a tendency to jump around everywhere a lot. Still fightable.

Game lag? None. There was the odd time where it'd freeze for half a second, but absolutely no lag.

Haven't tried it online, but finding Terraria extremely enjoyable.
All it lakes is a tutorilal of some kind I guess, as it took me a good 2 hours to understand how everything worked. Other than that, just a couple of forgivable bugs, that should be fixed quickly.

As for the game itself, I've only scratched its surface (around 5h) and I am already deeply hooked.

Plasma
18 May 2011, 16:41
So. Goddamned. Hooked.
Especially boss fights, those are really really awesome!
It feels a lot like Spelunky, actually. The best moments of Spelunky. (Spelunky itself sorta... sucks, badly).

The one thing that I really don't like, however, is how little there is to build with. The only three non-natural building blocks that aren't really rare (such as metals), are wood, grey bricks, and red bricks. It's really hard to make what you want when that's all you have.

Champipi, I'd ask for your Steam username, but with the three friends I have a nice little set up with, I don't expect there to be a point where none of them want to play whenever I ask. At least, not for a while.

mrchampipi
18 May 2011, 17:11
Plasma, my steam name is "mrchampipi" . Add me whenever you feel like it.
I haven't tried online yet, but as I've managed to push quite a couple of friends
into this, that should start soon :)

As for building, I couldn't agree more (even though I don't care about it too much as for now, too busy mining). But I'm sure more and more options will come after the first upcoming main updates (multi via steam, desert and floating islands biomes etc).

Almost full golden set, but still getting my ass kicked in hell or in the corruption area ^_^;
Keeping the boss fights for online with friends, but they do seem epic!

I love MW2 and Black Ops, although I prefer MW2 over Black Ops because its got faster paced gameplay and better sniping. They kind of nerfed sniping in Black Ops, but they have fixed it a bit. Still nothing on MW2 or CoD 4 though.

1: Intense practice, combined with fast reflexes and an incredible response time, while still having such perfect control of the controller to make such a rapid shot.

That would be the controller. I think it was a pretty skillful and at the same time, a lucky shot. I have quite some odd and quick twitchy moments on CoD.

I'd just like to point out that the current version of COD features sniper rifles that are incredibly inacurate when fired from the hip, and feature a severe random sway when you bring up the scope. This was a concious choice on the part of the developers in order to reduce the number of leet NO_SCOPEZ and 360 Quickscopers.

Even though their art has been reduced from an unintended gameplay exploit to literal blind luck they still feel the need to post youtube videos of their SIIK SKILLZ.

Treyarch kind of failed to completely stop quick scoping. Its still easy to do even at medium range. Long range you have to hold your breath a bit more. The annoying thing about the snipers though is you get more hitmarkers, and I never really see people snipe for that reason on core modes

MW3 will bring back quick scoping I'm sure, maybe even make the snipers CoD 4 style and then almost everyone will be happy.

Oh, and Modern Warfare 3 features a new co- op mode like Horde from Gears of War with PROGRESSIVE ranking and suicide bomber DOGS. As good as zombies? Maybe.

That's not a problem (well, calling them "rape clips" is, but that's not the point). You're still wrong for thinking any of us would care about a lucky/"skillful" shot like that, which at this stage is sorta bad considering how many times we've made it clear you love CoD far more than any of us, but it's still forgivable.
The problem is your response. Rather than just dropping it when it was clear nobody was interested, you instead got really defensive about it. Your posts have basically been "you should care about this video", as if everyone else is wrong for not being interested in it. That, combined with how you're trying to boast about it, is really not-really-a-swear-word-ing everyone off.

If you have to stop and hold your breath, you are no longer quick scoping.

Also if IW have any sence they'll keep the sway.

Hmmm... holding your breath but not actually holding your breath fully seems to result in easier long range quick scopes for me. I mean holding your breath as you go in if you know what I mean. I do it sometimes for long range kills and it comes out as a quickscope.

If IW have any sence they'll realise that CoD 4 had it down when it came to sniping. They'll also realise that all the arguments on quick scoping in MW2 could have mostly been solved by taking SOH pro off sniper rifles.

Plus, does Halo, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Killzone 3 have sway like that on their snipers? not that I recall.

You can't hold your breath unless your looking through the scope. If you look through the scope you aren't quick-scoping.

Also, quick-scoping has never caused a problem for Halo and I don't think it has for BC2 either, why you ask? because it is no where near as effective as it is in Call of Duty. They added the sway to Black ops because quick-scoping prior to Black ops did not involve much skill... especially for people that used quick-scope target stickers.

Shadowmoon
31 May 2011, 22:22
Errrmm... quick scoping is not not looking through the scope at all. You look through your scope a split second when quickscoping. Especially drag scoping which is a form of quickscope

And quickscoping doesn't take much skill, but been good at it does, seriously.

As for stickers, I know what you mean I've heard it in quick scoping tutorials and I can't believe anyone would do that.

A lot of problems in MW2 could have been solved If they did any perk ballancing at all.:p

But you're deluding yourself If you think quickscoping is something any game developer would want to encourage.

Yeah but there's a whole community of quickscopers so removing it would anger a lot of people... especially the really skilled ones. Another thing, why is it so bad?

Quite a few quickscopers are free kills mostly, for the bad kids anyway. No problem with quickscoping whatsoever. IW made it so that snipers could use sleight of hand pro, which is faster aiming in. They obviously wanted it in MW2.

Noob tube is fun to use, TDM especially. If I find one, I'll use one. Its good for clearing out campers.

Oh and again, most people on MW2 aren't that good at quickscoping. I especially know this from the 1 v 1's I've played.

Are you sure you know what that is?

Also people who complain about stuff in MW2 (such as OMA, noob tubers etc.) simply don't know how to play... (same for BO, though thankfully it's died down a bit...)
As far as I'm concerned, the only truely OP things in the COD series are some of the BO killstreak rewards (good luck countering the Blackbird) and the easy quickscoping before BO (seriously that's not a sniper, that's an infinite range shotgun...)

So I were playing CoD 4 today, which I hadn't for a few months... went on Search and Destroy and encountered the following:

- An enemy behind us, straight away, the moment the round starts we basically all just got shot to death by an enemy who were straight behind us within the moment we spawned. Obviously a hack.

- Enemy's glitching underneath/outside the map to shoot us. ALL of them were underneath the map or outside so it was pointless even been in the lobby.

- Goddamn annoying as hell text that covers the screen slightly, but still enough to obscure your view and frustrate you. About mods and hacks etc.

It's not quite that... it's actually about being able to move faster than the normal running speed. It started out as a bug really but it absolutely made Quake 3 (and no doubt others, "Quake 3" is just my personal bias)

To expand a little on what Splinter said, the Quake engine had a glitch (can't remember if it was in the original Quake or if it was Quake II where it popped up*) that resulted in 'strafejumping' - by strafing with a jump (and ideally turning your aim slightly in the direction of the strafe), it was possible to jump further and move faster.
Since the practice was so ingrained into the community, the bug was never removed and it has become standard practice and it persists to this day in the Doom 3 engine and derivatives.
Other bugs (like the framterate capping providing to provide a jump height boost**) were removed.

*According to the wikipedia it occurs in Half Life 2, which would suggest it originated with the Quake engine and not the Q2 engine.
**Might have been a speed boost, I can't remember (may not be Q3 but it was true in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory at least and that was on the Q3 engine so...).

Bunny hopping doesn't necessarily refer to strafe jumping though, but is much less useful in games that do not have the aforementioned 'feature' and so is less common.

Sony highlights:

-Started off with apology about the PSN
-Uncharted 3 looks amazing. Some really impressive water effects.
-Resistance 3 also looks amazing.
-PSP GoW games will be remastered for the PS3.
-Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD out in September. :D
-Playstation branded 24" 3DTV. $499, comes with glasses, 6 foot HDMI cable, and Resistance 3. Nifty new feature to allow offline co-op, each player uses a different pair of glasses, so each player can see their own full screen, in 2d of course.
-Medieval Moves. PSMove game by the guys who made Sports Champion. Weapon you are using depends entirely in your motion, no inventory required to choose weapons. For example, if you reach to your back you'll take out your bow and arrow. Sword motion is a sword, throwing star motion equals throwing star... you get the point. Looks pretty cool. Kinda like Crytek's Ryse, but with cartoony graphics, and better controls. :p
-Sly Cooper Thieves in Time. Out in 2012. Animated trailer, no gameplay footage yet.
-Dust 514, the fps game that ties in with EVE Online, will be a PS3 exclusive. They will also extend the experience to the NGP.

Aaaaand my stream died. Nice. Moving to gametrailers...

-Move support for Bioshock Infinite, but they are still working on it apparently.
-Bioshock game for the NGP. No footage.
-If you buy Bioshock Infinite on PS3, you also get a copy of the first Bioshock on the same disc.
-Battlefield 3 on the PS3 will include Battlefield 1943 in the same disc.
-Playstation Suite, bringing Playstation content to other devices, like android phones and tablets.
-NGP's real name finally revealed: Playstation Vita. Ugh. It's still the same amazing product, tho. Dual sticks, touchscreen and touchpad on the back, front and rear cameras.
-Cross-game voice chat on the Playstation Vita confirmed. Still no cross-game chat for the PS3, lol.
-Uncharted: Golden Abyss footage, for PSVita. Developed by the guys who made the Resistance game on the PSP. It looks so preeeetty. Melee combat uses the touchscreen, actually looks pretty nifty. The mix of buttons + touchscreen controls is pretty cool, and you can always just stick to one or the other if you prefer, same with sections that use the accelerometer. You choose how you want to play.
-Ruin. Social action RPG for the PSVita. Also for PS3 apparently, you can, at any moment stop playing on your Vita, save your game, switch to your PS3 and keep playing from the exact same point you left off. Niiiice.
-Modnation Racer's for PSVita. Not a port they say, completely new build. Touchscreen is very useful for building tracks. Back touchpad hels you create mountains, essentially pushing the terrain up, touchscreen pushes the terrain down. The game looks pretty much as good as the PS3 version. Will have access to the content made for the PSP and PS3 versions from day one.
-WipeOut 2048 will have cross-platform multiplayer, involving both PS3 and Vita.
-Sony will focus heavily on interactivity between the PS3 and Vita.
-Little Big Planet is coming to the Vita as well. Will make full use of the Vita's features to create levels, which means making levels is that much more awesome.
-SF x Tekken coming to PSVita as well. Cole McGrath, from Infamous, will be a playable character. Cole vs Ryu footage. :O
-More than 80 titles currently in development for PSVita, from a wide range of publishers. :3
-PSVita's price will be $249 USD for the wi-fi only version, $299 for the 3G one. **** YEAH. Wonder if Nintendo will drop the 3DS's price. In any case, I'm happy with that price. :3

Aaand, it's over. Sony > MS, hands down.

Wha? They showed a ****-ton of games... specially compared to MS's ****-on-rails bonanza...

Yup, Sony's stuff looks awesome. I am sold on the vita, specially with that price tag. Sounds like there will be plenty of launch titles to select from. And the new ps3 games look quite nice, but I still haven't played any Uncharted or resistance, but I just might have to. In regards to the touch and waggle, sounds like a lot of it is optional.

Yeah they highlighted all their exclusive HD/3D/Move/bonus/whatever and are gonna rerelease everything on the Vita (which is just the PSP with more stuff), big woop. The only really new stuff like Sly Cooper, Dust and Bioshock Infinite got the least screen time.

Microsoft wasn't any better but at least you always get a kick out of all the Kinect horrors. Hoping Nintendo showcasing their new console turns out interesting.

Yea, how dare they highlight the products they have heavily invested in, it's not like the whole conference is one giant sales pitch, with each company trying to sell it's big ticket items or anything.

DS is to GBA, as Vita is to PSP.
In otherwords, they are both the same as what they are replacing, just with more stuff.

Yeah they highlighted all their exclusive HD/3D/Move/bonus/whatever ok, and what ELSE are they supposed to highlight? the PS3 is known for HD and 3D, so any big title is going to have that, most titles these days offer a Move option on it, and everything else is going to be small time or remakes. you've quite literally just said you don't find interesting the entire list of games the PS3 COULD offer, much less IS offering.

anyway, for my part I thought the Vita looked absolutely fantastic, and this from someone who has been completely unimpressed by the PSP series of portables thus far. I've found nothing to look at with the previous iterations, but I could honestly see myself enjoying a Vita.

I DO, however, note that once again Last Guardian got NO face time, and this upsets me greatly......

Well, it was delayed. I'm guessing they're saving it for next year's E3, considering it's most likely not gonna be out before then. :c

Rayman Origins looks awesome! the mosquito shooting section from Rayman 1 is back! and I also spotted that familiar cage smash symbol too, so I presume the electoons are back in this too.

If this works like I think it does, one player wearing polarized glasses and the other player wearing non-polarized glasses then that is just awesome and actually justifies the existence of 3D TV's!

Not only can 2 players see the whole TV from there players perspective but if you divide each screen (3D TV uses polarized and non-polarized screens) up into 2 then 4 players can play each viewing half the screen! Much better then the 4 quarters required these days! And if you do split the pictures into quarters then you can have up to 8 players playing at once!

Also it can be used to greatly diminish screen cheating since either the other players screen won't be visible with the glasses or it will be blurry.

Crazy I know, but if you're gonna rag on Microsoft for just highlighting the Kinect I don't see how Sony didn't do the exact same thing.well sure, but for one, the move games actually look playable. mostly, though, the move games weren't highlighted NEARLY as exclusively as the kinect games were. Sony at least showed plenty of other stuff, where MS even showed just the kinect versions of AAA titles.

But who cares, I got PC games to look forward to at least. Battlefield 3 yessssssssssssssssssssss.now THIS we can agree on! BF3 and Skyrim both look freaking FANTASTIC!

So. WiiU.

Yeah, pretty much as expected. A large handheld controller.
...they really make it look like it has a lot of potential, and I'd say it is going to be the most fun console so far, buuut there's no way this is going to come cheap. When they're actually saying "this is expensive y'know", well...

But woo, Brawl!

Edit: Wow Darksiders 2 looks amazing! Now THAT is how you do stylefilters!

WiiU will be the name of the new console. ._.

Darksiders 2 at launch. Arkham City will be showing up, as is Assasin's Creed.

The new controller is... ok, I guess, but a lot of the stuff they showed seems extremely gimmicky. O.o

They also showed a very impressive tech demo for the console's graphics, definitely out-does the 360/PS3.

Currently showing a montage of hardcore games for the new console, it's all looking great.

MtlAngelus
7 Jun 2011, 18:13
Ok, customization could be AWESOME on this console. One example that showed briefly had the player humorously hand-painting a Tekken's(?) character face using the touchscreen. I can see this being awesome for basically any game with character/vehicle customization, or for any game that lets you create your own levels.

edit: but seriously, that controller looks HUUUUUGE. It's like i-pad sized, but way, way fatter. :p

Hardcore games on a Nintendo console? No wonder the world's gonna end.

Not crazy about the WiiU name. New controller looks cool but of course they're just gonna highlight gimmicks at this point.

Also Lego GTA WTF?

I'm intrigued. if you watched at e3.nintendo.com they showed an in-depth demo of the chase game, the mii battle game, and the shield game. all 3 looked pretty interesting as concept demos.

The controller definitely has a lot of versatility packed into it. I'm looking forward to seeing what hardcore developers have to offer with its tech. I think the use of an iPad-esque screen with the buttons on the side to emulate a standard controller as well as the wiimote compatibility really mesh well. The Wii U could very well be a console that offers the best of all worlds, being able to play hardcore console titles as well as iphone titles and the like.

I can't say "oh god that looks amazing!" just yet, but they've definitely piqued my interests.

Yeah, there's a ton of potential. I was impressed yesterday by how the Vita working together with the PS3 can really enhance gameplay, and this is basically the same thing, except it's actually a part of the console so it's bound to get used a lot more.

Another cool thing is that you can bet someone is going to make custom drivers to get this thing working on PC. So you get a fairly decent drawing tablet, and hopefully indie games making great use of it's features.

Both will have to use polarized glasses.
For the 3D effect, the two images are sent out polarized, with a 90° angle between the waves and the two glasses are arranged at the same 90° angle. (You can check that by putting two polarization filters over each other, then turn them 90°. You'll completely block both planes and no light can pass through, i.e. it's black.)

Now I think that there are two extra pairs of glasses that have both polarization filters in one pair of glasses alligned parallel with the respective half-image, so each player sees one half-image with both eyes.
With your suggestion, only the one with the polarized glasses would be able to see his half-image, but the one without glasses would always see both superimposed.

God knows why they didn't show this at the E3 show...well it's only showing more of the same old MW that we've seen already, so I can understand why they didn't want to show it, but it's definitely more interesting in terms of the action involved.

As expected the new nintendo is bascally a non-portable DS with slightly better than 360/ps3 graphics.

I am fine with this.exactly my thoughts. The Wii was questionable, the U seems like a pretty solid concept I can't really see going wrong and fading into the "gimmicky" background noise of motion control. I eagerly await seeing some ACTUAL games being played with it.
