I'm thinking I could probably bypass whatever stupid problem I'm having with my keyboard by getting an adapter so I can plug it into the regular old standard keyboard port instead of this USB hub hanging somewhere in the mass of insanity behind my computer. That was the only feature I didn't like about the keyboard.

This one still feels... Ugh.

KamikazeBananze

Could it be a problem with your USB hub? Have you tried plugging it into another USB slot?

If it doesn't work if you change USB ports, then that's a bit weird. Your USB ports might have been fried.

If there's anything I know about computers, is that things tend to break for no good reasons. For example, there's the computer on my sister's room that ever since it's gone there, something keeps breaking. It's busted two power supplies, a soundcard, a microphone, a mouse, a keyboard and who knows what else. I think the soundcard/mic just broke when one tried to plug it in. We think the room's cursed.

Then again the stuff might've not been of a good brand. An uncle of mine bought a computer cheap (one of those promotions that stores have) and it's lost a hard disk and a memory card so far.

Moral of the story is: stuff sucks and breaks for no good reason. :p

MonkeyforaHead
4 Oct 2006, 17:21
That actually sounds more like an issue with the electric current running to that room. You know, faulty wiring or something. Do you have it hooked up to a power bar with a surge protector? Don't know if that'd help either way, but it might be worth a shot.

It wasn't at the school, it was near his home, I think.
A random act of violence.

I challenge anyone to make a game more violent than Postal 2. I played that and I'm still mentally fit as ever I was.

On the other hand, what with the uprise of the Internet and parents seemingly becoming more and more unaware of what their kids are playing, it's quite possible games like these are being played by people at a much younger age -- and were I exposed to something like Postal 2 as a kid... well I dunno.

I just wish ****tards like Jack Thompson would stop pointing the finger at the videogames themselves as the root of the problem. He's damn determined to not let Rockstar's new game Bully ever see the light of day.

Hmm...
Postal 2 is way below average in most aspects. It seems that the developers have made only to provoke critics.
I played around a few minutes, then got bored of it.

Cutting throats from behind in GTA San Andreas is quite violent. I was a bit shocked when I first saw the animation.

The Reservoir Dogs game also ranks high in violent video games.
Very brutal how you can & have to treat hostages.

Pigbuster

I thought that Manhunt was supposed to be pretty brutal. (I never played it, but I heard so.)

Also, Bully is more about beating up other bullies, rather than being one yourself. I doubt Thompson will let that get in the way of his opinion, though.

Violent games should definitely be kept away from young kids, and when someone is 15 or so, they're probably at the age when their mind has matured past the influential stage. (More or less.)
So the fault does lie with parents who don't keep their kids away from these things.

They put on so much make up that they don't even seem to have a complexion. Unfortunately I don't fall in love easily - I usually have to have been friends with them for quite a while.

On the same subject as girls - I've just bought a card for a friend for her birthday of a fat woman falling on a car with the caption "When Jeff returned to his car, there was a big bird dropping on it". The girl I'm sending it to has the same colour and length of the fat woman so she's bound to think I'm saying something because she's female. Which now means I have to buy another card...

Speaking of incidences, my brother dislocated his kneecap today.

He was playing ultimate frisbee in the school hall, then slipped.

The teacher present called my mom. He said, in essence, "Hello?... Yes, your son's injured his knee... No, he's alright... Well, he seems to have misplaced his kneecap..."

Which was true. It was on the side of his leg.

Luckily, he's all fixed up now. Leg in cast and all. He's already settled into getting everyone to do stuff for him.

One of them involved grazing my knee quite badly and as I had no plasters it stung quite badly when walking but that's ok now I have a plaster on it. Another involved a wine glass smashing into my finger but from what I remember it just bled quite a bit but didn't hurt too much. I think this one was the most painful and involved the most blood. Also, it was the biggest and sharpest knife I had - next time I'll find a smaller one...

I seem to be suddenly re-entering a phase of accident-proneness.

The weirdest part of it is, I just discovered a really weird smattering of tiny scabs on my shin as though I had scraped it falling on the ground, but I haven't fallen on the ground in months. And it's quite recent, like within the last day or two. :-/

I mean, I've got some dried blood in and on a toenail from the time I mashed it into the wall a few days ago, but that was on the other foot. I honestly can't recall hurting this part of my leg at all.

STEAM IS A BIG PILE OF STEAMING WORM DROPPINGS

After reinstalling windows, I installed Steam to my games folder. Where about 20 game folders still where, because they are on a different hard drive. Most don't require re-installing or to be in the registry.

I already had a Steam folder but Steam needed to be installed properly, however I accidental installed Steam to it's parent folder, where all my game folders where. So now, when uninstalling. It removed EVERYTHING in there. Except for Guilty Gear XX Reloaded which miraculously got spared.

So I lost everything, my Half-Life 2 custom maps (not replaceable because I MADE THEM), all gaming progress etc...

Whoever programmed Steams uninstaller is a moron.

My only gripe is my Steam username is my old email address and I can't change it, but I can change the email address my Steam account uses.

While I'm of course thoroughly behind the open source movement in principle, is it me or is the GIMP almost designed to be frustrating to use?

Item 1: Sticking the Tools and Layers boxes in seperate windows without any apparant easy way to combine them with the window of the image you're working with. Clicking on the taskbar and messing about just so I can switch from Brush to Eraser or back isn't my idea of fun.

Item 2: Arbitrarily limiting you to certain brush sizes, and making you click on a drop down just to switch between a 5-pixel blob and a 7-pixel blob. Okay, so you can create more brushes, but unless you fancy creating a custom brush for every single pixel width, that's hardly satisfactory. Why can't you have a nice slider like in CPP8?

Pigbuster
22 Oct 2006, 00:36
I have a script that makes the GIMP windows follow your mouse.
i.e., If you have your mouse over a window, that will become the active window.
So I don't have to click twice to select a tool.

And why do you have the brushes in a drop down? You should be able to have a tab for the brushes.

I don't even know anymore what's going on in the Katie situation...

So that first boyfriend of hers who made me get so upset. His name's Aaron. And now I'm not sure if they're back together or what.

We had a marching band competition today (we're all in marching band) and they were pretty much sitting together the whole time. Meh. They sat together when she was with Max J. And I remember one occasion where she fell asleep on his shoulder on the bus. No big deal, I thought.

But then today, like, I don't know anymore. I know he tried to get a kiss out of her, but she wouldn't, saying "it's not because I don't want you, it's just (???)" I couldn't hear the reason. There was too much commotion. Throughout the bus ride I heard her say "no" in a whining voice several times. There was also a "no - it's MY body" somewhere in there. And then there was something with covering themselves in a blanket. It was cold. I'd like to tell myself they were just trying to get warm, but...

And I don't know, it's all too much for me to bear. I just...I don't know...

I hear what you all said about "getting out" but it's impossible. Every thought in my head is about her. To try to not think about her takes a conscious effort, and thinking about not thinking about her is still thinking about her... And don't try to tell me to look for someone else - she made them all disappear... I'm stuck. I'm trapped. And I can't deal with it, but there's nothing I can do.

And I'm sorry for ranting about her to you all so much - this is more an attempt for me to collect my thoughts than anything else...

Worst. Halloween. Ever.

Wasn't planning on going out (nothing to wear). At the last minute though I threw on a bin bag and we were going to go to a club. Got on the bus. There were 3 of us. Cat already had a ticket but I didn't know that. Mel bought tickets for both herself and me. I thought she'd bought a ticket for Cat so I went to buy a ticket (it's a machine). Put in £2 and Mel said she'd already got me a ticket so I cancelled it but it ate my money, I walked away from the machine. Mel thought I had the ticket so sold one of her tickets to someone in the queue. So now we only had 1... Anyway a couple of stops later a guy gets on to check everyones tickets. Mel shows hers to him and then tries to pass it to me to show him but he notices and says I'll have to pay a £35 fine and says he'll get my name and address soon. So I borrow £1 from Cat (you need exact change) and buy another ticket. He still says I'll have to pay the fine (doesn't get my name/address though) and walks off checking other's passes. So we get off at the next stop before he returns and I take off the bin bag and we hang round the corner for a bit and then walk towards the town centre. The bus was stopped at the next stop for ages - the bridge was closed because someone was trying to jump off it. Some people from the bus start running in our direction so we walk into Subway and wait for them to go. The bus is still there so we walk into town and try and find a pub and meet up with some friends of friends of friends or something. The queue for the club was very long so we decided to go to a pub instead. It was also full and Mel and Cat disappeared off trying to get home. At this point I just wanted a drink and then go home (9.15 lecture tomorrow (well today, technically)) so we queued up for a different club for a while. It was goth night with heavy metal music. No thanks. So I walked back and decided to type all this for some reason instead of going to bed. Oh and I seemed to lose the bin bag somewhere after the pub but before just after I was walking home...

One of the things it does is measure how much electricity each of your components uses, and give a total compared next to your maximum. If it detects something wrong with that it may offer some solutions on what to do besides disconnecting extra peripherals or adding extra heatsinks. It's pretty handy like that.

As for the monitor, that's downright weird. How long have you had it? CRT monitors these days only have an expected lifespan of about 2 years or something, if that's the case.

The only thing it points out is my low disk space, but other than that, I'm safe. I suspect it's hardware flaws since the monitor and DVD-ROM are rather old now, and the hard disk has been rather glitchy ever since I got it, plus every other component seems to be cool and well.

Here's an... erm... picture of what I mean, although my webcam sucks so it's hard to make out.

AH, our old TV did that. It usually happens when part of the display knackers out. We had ours in the lower part of the screen (if you scroll down to the bottom of this page, if you're on the Classic Skin at 1024x768, where the "Forum JumP" dropdown bar is), and the rest of the screen seemed to get sucked into this point like it was some kind of rift in the space/time continuum.

Our house has had mouse issues ever since Loudmouth died.
So we got an exterminator to put poison around places, including the basement.
Well, the mice in the basement died.
And released an unholy stench.

Now the back steps are almost incapacitating, and every time the heater blows hot air through the vents, the dead mouse musk comes up as well.
One of these vents is right under my bed.

So my mom decided to spray febreeze around down there.
Guess how it worked?
Now it smells like dead, rotting mice with an equally overpowering oder of "meadows and rain". I guess febreeze doesn't work on that rotting corpse smell.

You'd probably have to tear down the whole house to find all the corpses.
Mouse poison doesn't kill instantly, but after a short period when the mice have retreated back to their holes.
If the first mouse died eating from the poisoned bait, no other one would touch it.

I know what you mean with this. I used to be friends with just about everyone, and then suddenly everyone divided themselves into little cliques, and even the kids that I thought were pretty 'universal' have limited themselves to just one excessively tight group of friends. I have very few good friends anymore, and unfortunately, I almost never see them at school. I try to find a group of people with one kid I'm pretty close with and sit with them. At least there's weekends where I can occasionally get myself to call a few friends and watch a movie or something.

Well, now that I'm posting in NE&O I might as well post some NEs and Os.

For some reason I kind of went insane at the end of the last school year. I had this kind of.... I have no idea how to explain it, but my mind went into this "dream world" mode where everything felt physically weird, my appendages in a way felt like they were somewhere else. I would forget little things a lot, like if I was taking a shower whether I had washed my hair or not. I felt pretty sad a lot of the time, and I also had a constant weird little lightheadedness which I think is the 'aura' of vasovagal syncope, because the lightheadedness would occasionally "flare up", giving me the same feeling I felt in the rare instance when I had a legit vasovagal syncope, which I used to think was just "passing out". I had one in school and got to ride out in an ambulance (the nurse thought I had had a Grand Mal seizure)! Neat

I think a lot of the sadness (I can't really blame the syncope on anything) was from when I sort-of-broke-up with my not-quite-girlfriend. She kind of latched on to me because I was nice to her and her religion forced her to stop hanging out with her hold friends which she claimed "worshipped Satan" (they were really nice and interesting people but there's a part of me that wouldn't be surprised if they did THEN, I'd be surprised if they did now). It was a constant ego boost for me because hey a girl likes me someone else sees something totally rad in me huh huh this is great. Our relationship started out pretty strong but began to erode. When someone made fun of me, I'd laugh and take it, but she'd hiss like a cat and put her hand into a pose that would suggest that she had retractable claws. When my friend changed on the bus I laughed, and she smashed her head into the window until she passed out. When there was this end-of-school assembly thing I actually felt myself desiring for her to go home so I could be away from her without offending her.

She was a very show-offish person who loved things like marching band (which I loathed). There was one incident in one class where the teacher was doing a demonstration after we had read "Player Piano". He was going to play two tracks, and both were the same song. One was an orchestra, with a famous organist (E. Power Biggs, I think), and the other was the same song being played on a Moog synthesizer. He played the first song, and asked who thought this was the one done on the Moog. Her hand shot up, and she listed off about a million reasons why the track sucked and why any idiot should be able to tell that it was the Moog and that no real orchestra could possibly sound like that. He then started to play the second track, which was the Moog.

We never officially "went out" for many reasons, one of which being her parents wouldn't let her and probably would have destroyed me. Despite this we had a kind of official "breaking up". Wheee. Unfortunately, despite my wanting to be away from her, my ego wasn't being constantly inflated like it usually was, and there wasn't anyone I could think about when I went to sleep, so I felt kind of sad. I have no idea if this is related to the "dream world" phenomenon.

So this year starts and I'm feeling pretty organized, it's not gonna suck like last year, Matt you are a pretty good student with a lot of nice qualities and you don't need anyone to keep reminding you that, and I'm totally not gonna get my stupid self into any more of this "love" stuff. I almost instantly develop a crush on a girl who happens to be one of the Satan worshippers. I love her personality, she is eerily quiet and unnervingly intelligent, and I find her quite attractive (I also think she likes me :)). The year starts out pretty stellar, and then my seat gets moved next to the girl I mentioned in the first few paragraphs. There's a sudden amount of I have a binder full of the notes we used to write each other in class and I was reading them last night and want to go bowling i want to go bowling we can get tom to come too you haven't seen him in ages and remember all those drawings, all those drawings we used to do that I could really do without. At the same time I don't want to offend her. And for no reason at all, I have been entering "dream world" recently. Superb!

I applied for jobs at a few places despite not wanting a job at all. The first place never called me, and I had a syncope in school on the day of the interview for the second one. I rescheduled the interview, was intimidated, noted that all the other employees were female, was told "don't call us, we'll call you" and never heard from them again. I can't mow lawns and shovel driveways like I did in years past because all my neighbors have died.

I got my braces off recently! I thought I was doing a decent job brushing, but it turns out I wasn't doing a great job with the gums on some of the frontish teeth (canines I think). The top ones look gross, and the bottom left (my left) one looks gross. I'm told that I should try to make them bleed when I brush so that they can heal, but I can't knock the fact that it makes it feel like they are deteriorating more. At least they're straight and the rest of my teeth look pretty nice.

My dog is diabetic, went blind from the diabetes, and is growing a massive lump on his hip. He's an adorable Miniature Schnauzer, and I'm noticing his physical condition deteriorate. He's not even able to jump up onto my bed anymore which is two feet off of the ground. Every morning I have to pick him up and put him on my bed, where he used to just jump up. He loved to go hiking, but it's now impossible to take him hiking except on very small trails. He used to trail us when we rode mountain bikes on the trails.

My entire nuclear family except me have become vegetarians. I would too, but I'm such a picky eater to begin with that I probably wouldn't be able to do it. I feel kinda morally inferior.

I'm almost positive she likes me, but I'm such a massive ****ing faggot that I don't approach her and every day when I get home I yell at myself for being a ****ING FAGGOT JESUS CHRIST SHE LIKES YOU AT LEAST SAY HI YOU idiot.

So yeah whine whine world is against me etc thanks for reading i guess

this is pretty long and I didn't proof-read it or anything but whatever

I kinda wondered what it was that made you tick. You're always really reclusive when it comes to things like that. I'm glad to see you get some of it off your chest. I'd like to give you friendly advice, but experience teaches me that my friendly advice is worth just about dirt, so, yeah. But I'm here for you. Whenever I'm not at work. Or asleep. So, like, the weekends. Half of them. Or less.

Anyway.

Yeah, so I cracked open the second bottle of my wine, and my mom takes that as an invitation, and this time there's not even a trace of the bottle. Wow. After all of the *****ing she's done at me over the years about things like this, I'm more than a little surprised she would do something so grossly inconsiderate.

She's moving in 15 days, though. I think I'm about ready to switch my attitude towards that to a "good ****ing riddance" one. She's a pothead, too. I don't need her around me anymore.

I was ALMOST out of my little emo rut, but you know me and anger.

Right, so for the past few days one of my house mates has had some of her friends over.

And, not to put too fine a point on it, it's Invasion of the Chavs*. One or two are okay, but some of them.... For example, playing trance music loudly at 2am (I hit back with Sonic tunes, but my heart wasn't really in it). And making a complete mess of the kitchen, including some of my stuff.

Not to mention that I haven't had to deal with this level of "intelligence" since I had to share the bus to Gorseinon College with a bunch of army cadets. I mean, okay, so the University of Glamorgan isn't the smartest Uni in the country (although the people on my course and my lecturers are all bright people, let the record show), but at least the students here have, at the very worst, passed most of their GCSEs...

Kinda came to a head just now when one of them knocked on the door, and asked if he could use my toilet. When I explained that I didn't have a toilet in my room (several times), he told me he was "f***ing watching me", at which point I slammed the door. I don't have to take this sort of thing. Oh, yeah, and I've just heard something made of glass smash.

Trouble is, I've been feeling under siege rather: leaving my room generally means dealing with them, so I've been spending most of my time in here (nothing new there, then :p). And I'm not going home this weekend, either. I should probably try and get out of the house (maybe go into Pontypridd: I'd like to buy some blank CDs).

And on top of it all, England have lost two early wickets.

Amy, my ex, now wants me to remove any and all referneces to our break-up from my blog. I've told her no, because they're my feelings and opinions and it's freedom of speech and so on. I used my blog as a crutch when I ended it with Amy - I wrote about all sorts of thoughts and feelings I had, and for the past two months it's been pretty much Emo interspersed with random tidbits about work and the occasional irreverent humour. And she wants me to delete all of that? Bugger that for a laugh.

So because I won't delete it she sees me as a total ******. She also kicked up a fuss when I gave/sold most of the DVDs I'd got out of our relationship to my sister, saying that she should've had first dibs on them as we collected them together. I say no, because I left the relationship with what I had and she left it with what she had. At that point our connection to those possessions ended. She can no more ask for my copy of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective back than I can ask her for the humungous flatscreen HDTV we bought together, or the laptop, or the furniture, or the photos and models and trinkets that we collected over the past two and a half years.

As Stuart Campbell once wisely wrote, "Freedom of speech, eh? Let’s hope no one went to the trouble of dying for it, or anything."

On a night we had to be careful to turn it off last, becuase if we turned off the PC and then turned off the TV the spike from the TV turning off would boot up the PC and we'd have to wait for that to start up so we could wait for it to shut down again. That, combined with the smoke alarm that was connected to the lightbulb, so that if you left the room, turned off the light, then remembered somthing you needed to do in there and turned it back on again it would go off, and the only way to turn it off was to flip the light on and off repeatedly, after which it would bleep periodically to let you know it was recharging the battery power it had expended scaring you witless in the first place, meant it was something of a chore to be the last one up.

Windows killed itself. Again. During another harddisk malfunction (at least I think that was it), it bluescreened and wouldn't boot. The harddisk was so corrupted that I had to use the Windows XP SP2 CD to fixboot, fixmbr and chkdsk until it finally managed to recognize the Windows XP installation. However, said installation is too damaged to boot so I had it Repaired.

Problem: After the initial repair phase (what I call the DOS phase, since it looks like DOS) it boots Windows XP to continue repairing. However, it asks me to point out where the "i386" folder of the Windows XP SP2 CD is, since, for some reason, it's looking on "\system\cdrom(0)" (or some such). I'd love to tell it to look on "D:\i386", but the catch is, THERE'S NO MOUSE OR KEYBOARD! I have no idea why since they worked fine on the Recovery Console, so I can only address it to Microsoft being stupid.

Is there any solution for this? I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows AGAIN in such short notice. And until that's sorted, I'm running on Ubuntu. Damn I miss my games. :(

Get thee a bootdisk.I don't see how that is in any way helpful. I can boot from the CD fine.

Anyways... well, when I thought I finally got everything sorted, my computer goes and smacks me in the face. I couldn't repair the Windows installation, so I had to reinstall it all over again.

And apparently, it wasn't just the Windows that got damaged. Pretty much half of my "system" harddisk got corrupted and lots were lost. The good side is, I had moved most of my stuff to the new harddisk. Games, projects, etc. The keyword is most. I still left a lot in C:, respectively My Documents, Program Files and such since they were fine where they were. Or so I thought.

Now I found out that there's files missing all over the place. From My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, Programs, etc... Opera is gone, as well as all the bookmarks, settings, passwords and all that it memorized throughout the years. So did Miranda IM, with all my months of tweaking, chatlogs, received files and what not. Visual Studio Projects also vanished... so much for all my work. Any TGF/MMF projects also went bye-bye. Even old things like Star Worms 2.

In the end, I didn't lose it "all", but I did lose "a lot". More annoyingly, I have no idea of how much "a lot" is. It's almost like starting all over. This computer keeps screwing me over and there's nothing I can do about it. I hate it. I HATE IT. Yet I need my computer so there's nothing I can do about it. GAH! **** this. **** it all.

She's a friend of a friend. Perfectly lovely girl with a few beers inside her, but a bit on the mental side when sober. I'm a bit worried what will happen next time I see her, which is to say, Tuesday evening -- when my other friends will be there. I'm just a bit worried that she might be all over me in full-on mental mode, and I'm not quite certain I could take that.

I just think it's pretty unlikely that Tuesday will be more fun than it would have been had I not kissed her (although Saturday probably was).

Edit: Well, we both acted as if nothing at all had happened. Not perhaps the most mature thing to do but then not the least either, and certainly not the worst. Of course, this all brings me no nearer kissing someone I do want to go out with, but what the hell, can't have everything.

Or, I dunno the specifics so maybe this isn't very feasible, but maybe she somehow ended up blocking you by accident. I recall Zeor almost blocked me once.

I'm not going to blog this, because I made a promise to myself that this sort of angtsy stuff would stay off of my blog this yea, but I don't think I'm over Amy.

I certainly don't love her anymore. Those feelings died not long after we broke up when I began to question just how solid our relationship actually was. But I do miss her. Part of me really, really wants to try and re-establish a friendship with her, but I know that after all that has been said and done, this isn't possible. She cheated on me whichever way you choose to look at it, and you don't just kiss and make up (rhetorically, of course) when someone does that. My principles stand in the way of friendship, and this is understandable. But it doesn't make it easy. This isn't like my Sony "Boycott" which lasted all of three days before I bought Lemmings and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the PS2, and then bought a pair of Sony branded headphones some days later. This is something I have to stick to.

It's irritating. I'll find something on the Internet I think Amy will like and I think, "I'll just drop her an email because she'll get a real kick out of this dancing banana." But then I remember why I'm not talking to her. There's a brief pang of sadness before I dismiss it and get on
with whatever it was I was doing previously.

This is so infuriating. Those who attended the Get-Togethers where she was present don't know what she can actually be like, and I realised that she is exactly the sort of person I dislike. She's comparable to a slightly less intense Nikki from last year's Big Brother (which I saw purely because she wanted to and I wasn't allowed to make any decisions regarding what we watched on the TV I was paying for through the digital TV my employers were providing), and I absolutely hated Nikki. Detested her with a fiery passion. I think it was Big Brother, in fact, which opened my eyes - not that we had to watch it, but that I saw so many similarities between the spoilt have-to-have-it-my-way girl on the television and the one sat in our living room watching it.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just feeling lonely at the moment. I've spent so long in such a serious relationship and I'm still trying to get back into the way I used to live, and that feels like it's redundant because the way I live is going to be changing rather radically in a couple of months anyway. I hate relationships.

One of them had wandered into the trap we had (it's sort of a metal box with a hole in one end), but it only caught it by the leg. We called the appropriate personnel to deal with it right away, but it took him over five hours to get there and in the meantime the poor thing tried for about 3 hours to gnaw its leg off before it finally collapsed from exhaustion and died.

Holy sh!t. 0_o

Well for my story. I got up at 5:30 am when my alarm was set to 6:30am and couldnt fall back asleep. Ok, whatever...so since I was up, I decided to get ready and left for S.I.T. an hour early to show that I'm a good worker or some bull ****. Yeah, the last night I got there no problem. Today, I got lost. Yeah, lost. I got off at a wrong exit and next thing I know, I'm stuggling to find my way back to the highway. Then ended up backtracking like 20 minutes. Long story short I get there 20 minutes late somehow. Yay for everything. I stood there and learned my task, and got fairly well at it. Didn't take a lunch break or anything, just kept on working. I had to move my car, so I did. And then slid into a fence because everything is icy as **** here. Ok, moving on with my life... I leave about 3:30 or so because, you can pretty much leave whenever you feel like it. Ok, so after almost getting into 2 accedents because of incompetent drivers around me, I go to Taco Bell for some food. Right before I got there, I slowed down for a red light when I was already at a slow speed. However the road did not agree with me. So I NEARLY slid into the person in front of me. I didn't though, so I'm happy for that. Any ways, the food was fantastic. I get within sight of my road when someone in front of me suddenly decides to turn left and wait for a mile of trafic to pass. Ok, I was able to see it, and slowed down, while already at a very slow pace. I'm sure you could of guessed that my car slid. So there was a guard rail on the right and a car right in front of me. And I was able to slide in between the two. Flipped my car over and la de da... The car in front of me takes off. The ******* just turns left like nothing happened. Ok, I'm in a ditch now. I got out and called AAA (road side assistance) and I felt great to know they wont help you or even ask if your ok untill they know you are a member. Which I am thankfully. Stand out there and waited for the cops to show. Finally they came. Turns out my insurance expired today. Thankfully though, I didn't really need it because nothing was damaged at all. Got written up a thing that I have to appear at court or something now. Great. Depending on wheather or not someone is having a good day, determines how much or if I get charged anything for that. Well, I made it home now, and this is the first thing that I am doing. Why? Because I don't really have any loved ones to talk to.
Oh, and I can't feel my hands or feet from standing outside so much. What a ironic twist of fate today was the coldest day of the year here.

The best part of it is, the day isn't over yet. Who knows. Maybe a comet will fall and hit my car. With me in it of course.

I still remember the time I took the bumper off my car.

I was walking through a carpark to my car and thought I heard someone call my name, so I turned round to see who it was and there was nobody there. When I turned back around my head was met (with some force I might add) by a concrete pillar.

So, new head-lump intact, I got in my car and assessed the damage. Not much pain, a reasonably sized lump and a slightly dizzy sensation. However, this self-assessment was interrupted by some other people who wanted my parking space, so I moved on.

It was when I got to the exit of the car park that it became apparent my head took a larger knock than I realised; I tried to turn left but steered right. Half way through the turn I realised what was wrong and quickly tried to correct it by steering left. Clearly my brain wasn't quite working as the space to turn into was only big enough for me to turn into if I'd steered left from the start. The result was my bumper and a metal fence say "Hello" to one another and my bumper falling off one side of my car.

So, I sellotaped it back. Safety first and all that. :)

Actually, when I had my proper crash, the bumper was still attached but most of the rest of the car's front was not. Go sellotape!

Sorry to double-post.

My girlfriend and I have been trying to get our bed. We paid for it and since then we've had nothing but trouble. Here's a list of complaints we've made:

1 - Delivery guy(s) dropped a big box of bed stuff on our shelves, knocking everything off.
2 - No receipt left by delivery guy(s), no proof they delivered it.
3 - Bed's siderail bracket has no holes to put screws through.
4 - Top of headboard has sellotape marks on from bad packaging.
5 - Called to query these issues, was told they'd call back, they didn't.
6 - Phoned to query again and find out the status of previous query, they said they'd call back and didn't.
7 - Will lose a further £50 (from taking the day off work for delivery) + phone calls to sort all of this out.

Here is a transcript of a phone conversation I just had with them:

Me: "Hi, I phoned you twice yesterday to try and sort this out and you said you'd call back but you didn't so I'm calling you again."
Them: "Okay. Well, our system is down so we can't do anything."
Me: "Okay, so get a pen and paper and take down this list of complaints I have. You can hand it to your supervisor."
Them: "Oh, the system just came back!"
Me: "OK. [% list of complaints %]."
Them: "Errr. Oh, um, sorry. Yeah, I was just typing."
Me: "Right... so how are you going to compensate me?"
Them: "Well, what's the problem?"
Me: "Aside from the pitiful service you're giving me, I need a new siderail and toprail."
Them: "So you need a new headboard and bottom rail?"
Me: "No. Listen. I need one top rail and one side rail."
Them: "Err"
Me: "Would you like me to give you part numbers?"
Them: "Errr"
Me: "Part numbers. So you can order the parts I need."
Them: "Oh. Okay."
Me: "114/0187 and 114/0186"
Them: "114/0187 and 186... then what?"
Me: "No, 114/0186."
Them: "Oh, I typed it wrong! *titter* So what's the second number?"
Me: "That was the second number."
Them: "Er, so what's the first number?"
etc
Them: "I've placed those orders for you now, okay?"
Me: "Yes. Can you call me back and give me an update of the status of our order, please?"
Them: "..."
Me: "You know, to tell me it will be here tomorrow."
Them: "Um"
(silence for about 30 seconds)
Them: "Okay."

AAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!

I thought you should all know this.

Well, technically a block of wood chippings and sawdust is a block of wood in exactly the same way that a slice of reformed ham is a slice of meat.

You're right, though. Well done on emphasising the difference between the discussed alternatives.

I'm quite 95% positive sure that cute girl I work with likes is playing me.

Hot damn, it's about freaking time good stuff crap like this starts happening for too me again.

Yeah, just wanted to fix a previous post in another thread.
I may be over reacting, however this is probably one of the most confusing things that is going on. She flirts like crazy, and when ever I talk to her by phone texting, she is so freaking cold it's harsh. I even confronted her today, and sadly talking to her makes me question her thinking ability sometimes. Its like she has the attention span of a gold fish when it comes to talking about certain stuff. I was asking if she is flirting by accident, because that can happen if you aren't aware of it. Two sentences in I got her lost. The other day, I was talking to her on the phone and while that was going on she is texting her other guy friends. Yeah. What the **** hell. Other stuff is also going on, and other stuff is happening.
She's going to call later...I just really don't think it's worth it that much at all anymore.
The potential to be a really awesome person is very much so there...but augh.
EDIT:

Things have changed. There is possibility for some good to come out of all this.

EDIT: Why the **** do I even try anymore.

Edit: yeah, forget that whole mess. cold hearted *****.

Nothing like a nice big fall at work -- this time, I fell right around 4 or 5 feet onto diamond-plate metal stairs, meeting probably either one or two of them in various ways, and finally onto the concrete floor. Whoopee!

Can pretty much only blame myself for this one. Wasn't doing anything especially dangerous, but I guess I was careless. Best my flawed memory serves me, I was hopping down from that 4-ish foot distance like I'd done a hundred bazillion times before, but this time my foot met something I didn't anticipate on the way down, and the rest was pretty much history. Injuries sustained are a very sore lower back (I met one of the stairs with the back of my belt, which is always great), possibly minor bruising on the right leg, a slightly scraped elbow and a noticably skinned right wrist.

I now know what it's like to actually be literally stunned. Once I hit the floor, I was powerless to do much of anything for about a full minute. A coworker showed up to see if I was alright, and I wanted to get up to show that I was, but I just couldn't move anything beyond a twitch. It was kinda scary.

SupSuper
14 Feb 2007, 16:28
Ouch, to both of you.

Closest I've come to being stunned was when I was playing on the monkeybars when I was a kid, my hand slipped and I fell, back right onto the ground. I could barely breathe or move for a while and was scared ****less.

I have to either cancel or reschedule my flight to LA, as it turns out I'm not going when I thought I was. Herein we have three options. I can:

Cancel it, and lose 50% of what I have paid - that's £90. I can then book a new flight when I know I can go.
Reschedule it, and be charged a penalty fee of £50. The problem is I don't know when I'm going, and I may have to reschedule again.
Change it to a return and go to visit my Dad for a couple of weeks. This means I'd have to buy another ticket when I do finally go. This could cost me around £250.

'Elp!

Edit: My Dad has offered to cover part of the cost of a second ticket if I want to come out to visit him, so I'm leaning in that direction at the moment.

If you can't, go with option one.

Squirminator2k
14 Feb 2007, 17:49
Sadly option two is very much dependent on the California Department of Immigration. At last check their website says that they are still processing applications from July of last year, and that was January's update (their website is updated whenever someone remembers they have one, which is not often). Realistically the latest I'd be going is July.

It would appear the trackpad temperature sensor has packed up/is dying on my PowerBook. I'm randomly getting extreme readings (like -125C or +100C), after which my laptop goes to sleep and refuses to wake up for about 10 minutes

And I'm nowhere near an Apple Service/repair place

AND to make matters worse, I reckon a repair (if it is a dodgy sensor) will cost an arm and a couple of legs, especially as my laptop's out of warranty by just over 6 months :mad:

After work I was backing out as someone was driving behind me. I looked and he wasnt there, then pulled in front of me and stopped when he noticed I was backing out. He blew the horn and stuff, but it was too late. Now my bumper on the left side is cracked and kinda hanging out with the paint scracted...on my new car. His car got a panel knocked out underneath his left headlight. That and the paint is slightyly scratched there. He was able to put the panel back in, and it looks fine, besides the paint. He is going to file thing against me, because apparently his wife will go ape**** on him if he doesnt. So because my insurance is so awesome, I'll probably end up paying for his crap out of my pocket, while I have more damage done to my car with no compensation.
