got invited into the beta test for FireWorks CS4 :D

they changed the interface to be the same across all versions of all their programs, so now fireworks looks the same as the mac version and I think it's even the same as photoshop will now look. this throws me off quite a bit.

I hate that new "standardized" look, it's incredibly ugly, like all those Apple ports.

And anyone can try the Fireworks CS4 beta, it's right here: http://labs.adobe.com/

My band did our first gig last night. Went very well. We've now potentially got quite a few more gigs potentially lined up for us, including some Charity gigs in Cardiff.

Alot of people we're impressed by how tight we were as a band. This bloke from a local guitarshop who also runs a studio and record label said that he was surprised we were so young and more surprised when we told him it was our first gig, "I've seen bands playing for years that haven't reached that level of performance".

So I'm pretty fudging happy.

Steam is doing lots of iD Software titles in a package that normally costs $200, for $34.99 this weekend.

Doom I, Master Levels, II, Final, Ultimate
Doom III, Resurrection
Hexen I, one expansion, II
Quake I, two expansions
Quake II, two expansions
Quake III, Team Arena
Commander Keen complete
Wolfenstein 3D, Return
Spear of Destiny

Plus tax, for UK gamers, it's $41. At the current rate of 1.7 Dollars to the Pound, this is a great deal.

But Hexen I+II, Commander Keen and the TA extra for Q3 isn't worth it for me.

Doom III is the largest one there, even that isn't too big.
Things only start getting stupid if you start unpacking the .pk# files.

Alien King
8 Sep 2008, 18:56
First test and I do have a car. A cheap .9 ish litre red box. Good insurance quote though. :D Unfortunatly I can see many lifts being requested of me.
Two minors were for neglecting to check my mirrors when slowing down.
The third had me worried when I did it, I pulled away when someone was approacing from behind with their left indicator flashing, I assumed they were either making a turn or going to stop. They didn't and instead, had to slow as I pulled away.

How the hell does it matter whether or not you've seen what's behind you when you need to slow down? If you discover you're being tailgated, is it okay to mow down pedestrians?

Examiners don't seem to understand that you look at mirrors using your eyes. I was always told by my instructor to turn my head to make it obvious, especially if it's not the left hand mirror, because they won't spot it otherwise.

Hmm, I hardly turned my head during my test. Then again, there were quite a lot of mirrors in the car so the examiner could see where I was looking.

Also, I got to leave college early today. Last lecture ended at 13:45ish and I got lift back closer to home with a friend. Normally I'd have to get a bus, but now I can drive. :D

BLTs are quite possibly the most greatest sandwich ever! I've been eating them ever since I had teeth to chew bread with.
Though it's not all happy memories, the first time I made BLTs by myself in my own apartment my toaster caught on fire! Huge flame out of nowhere! Stupid timer which works 95% of the time! but it's alright, only two pieces of bread were scorched and I proceeded with the toasting after the incident and made some very successful BLTs. But I don't think I can trust a toaster again...

Going on a two-week trip to Chicago tomorrow morning. Quite excited, never been out of Europe before. I'll be visiting the Robert Morris College for a bunch of hours a day and spend the rest of the time more or less senselessly spending the money I've saved up over the months. Never done a lot of money-spending either, come to think of it, so I guess I'll be having a good time. Still find it ridiculous to believe I'll be able to see the Blue Man Group for no more than 15 bucks, while the price is eight times as high here in Germany! :D

She can't work and she's on benefits - £75 a week, now increased by £113 thanks to the successful appeal.

I know I know, I just said on Monday it was off, but thankfully one of the drummers in our school said he'd be willing to help fufill the gigs that we've got coming up. He said he's not sure if he'll join full time, but he said he might.

He's a fantastic drummer, Grade 8 and teaches. He's also a year younger than am I. It's actually really inspiring to hear him drum, so I hope that he hasn't been put off by some of the crapper songs we have currently. We had a band practice, it went fairly well, but we as a band hadn't played together because of our previous drummer for about three weeks. So we were rusty.
Hopefully, he sticks around because I feel like with such a technically profficient person in the band, I'm gonna really have to up my game.

I'm finally getting off this damnable Celeron. Going to another Intel, though, but a Pentium IV has to be better than this blasted device. Best thing my motherboard can handle, and considering it's costing me about 30 bucks with shipping, why the hell not? Hopefully this will allow me to run things like Team Fortress in a less horrible fashion. It'll put me in pretty much the same ballpark as my dad's PC, and that one works really well, so there you go.

Oh my god, he's been resurfacing a bunch recently, do you think he's going to come out with anything new?

I mean what's he been doing the past 10 or so years? Do musicians just "take a break"

22 Oct 2008, 14:04
He really was taking a break all this time according to people who saw him on a more or less regular basis in Athens, Georgia. He was somewhat involved with other E6 acts recently and obviously had to keep his Romanian folk music obsession going, but he apparently didn't write any NMH material that he was happy enough with to tell people about. Still, if he's going to continue playing NMH stuff like he did in that video up there... I think I'll carry on hoping for a new album somewhere along the line.

Yes, he is. fivethirtyeight.com is currently showing a 98.1% chance of Obama winning.

As far is I can work out, this is what the more paranoid of us ought to look out for:

11PM GMT: Indiana. McCain will probably win this but may not. If he doesn't then that's a really bad sign for him.
12AM: Virginia; 12:30AM: Ohio; 1AM: Pennsylvania; 2AM: Colorado. Obama has about 239 electoral votes tied up completely. These four states are also quite safe for him and will take him way over the 270 needed to win. If McCain wins any of these then Obama's still got a lot of paths to victory, but it means the polls are all out so all bets are off.

HBO is making a TV series called Game of Thrones.

yes, yes that is indeed a George R R Martin reference and yes it IS based on that book series. in fact, martin is helping with the show.

the show is being made for HBO. each season of the show is planned to tell the story of one of the books, and there are 7 books total in the series, as planned by martin. the show is only in pilot stages right now, pending approval from HBO, but it was requested apparently, and 6 of the 10 shows currently up for review are planned to make it to actual TV, so chances are reasonably high that the show will indeed see more than just the pilot.

to keep the budget down, the big battles of the series are supposed to take place off-screen so to speak, and the show is being billed as a "character drama" so don't expect LotR battle scenes, but I'd like to think a few scenes showing main characters in battle could be common enough.

This is quite possibly the awesomest ever!

Avalanche Studios sent me an e-mail saying they want to meet me next week for an interview! :D
If they like me, I will get to work there as an intern for six months working with graphics!

The thing about Avalanche is that they just recently had to fire 77 employees due to the economy crash. Two of their projects got pulled by their publishers. So it feels strange that they would want interns. But on the other hand, we don't get paid so they probably need as many of us as they can take care of. And when it's over they probably can't hire me, but at least it will be great experience. So much to learn :3

It's a part of my course of course. We all have to find internships by the end of this year. Which has been quite hard since companies are not really looking to hire now.. I've been really worried that I wouldn't find anything like this, but instead would have to go make board games in some of-set town nobody ever hear of. Or something equally useless.

ran into one of the guys who I looked up to in the beginning of my time playing Fallen Empire: Legions. I've gotten enough skill now that the fights between us are pretty close. he usually still wins, but it's by a narrow margin.

also, Staind, Seether and Papa Roach tonight at 6:30 :D:cool:

I now have my own separate internet connection, so no more sharing with family. :P
Also cable tv, but that's just an unimportant added bonus.

Currently connected trough an ethernet cable. The thing has wireless but I wasn't given the WEP key, so I'll have to call and check on that. And I'm lazy right now.
It has the same speed than the one I was sharing with my family, only it has a better upload rate, and costs less*. Even when bundled with cable tv.

(*Figuratively anyway, given that the other connection is paid by the company my dad works at, so it actually costs us nothing. :p)

My Welsh Bac is pretty much sorted. One thing left to do, and we can't do it until February.

I've had another offer from Brighton also. So that's three in total, Kingston, UWE and Brighton. Portsmouth and Greenwich haven't got back to me yet. But we'll see.
UWE is my firm at the moment, unsure which is the insurance.

Here's a slightly outdated sketch which I colored:

I wanted to do something a bit different this time. My guitar was cool, but I feel it was a little standard-looking, and so I want to make my next one a little different from your standard guitar.

First thing I'm going to play on it is the bass riff of Time Is Running Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaNfQCqclW4&feature=related). :)

Ah, thanks, Andy.

Hmm, odd isn't it? Supposed to be 100 years apart isn't it?It is, but that rule came into force in 1920 and due to the Freedom of Information Act, you can request information from a public body. At the time the 1911 census was taken there was no "100 year rule", it was just meant to be confidential for a considerable time. Then earlier this year (or maybe last year), someone went to court over it and won, and so they started digitising the census earlier this year. All the subsequent censuses are governed by the 1920 Census Act, however.

I have heard murmurings from a friend of my Dad, who happens to be a VP here at Disney, that there are going to be Redundancies in January. The last batch of job cuts happened to every department that wasn't connected to ABC, so this time it'll probably just be us lot. And the temps always go first.

So it looks like I may be leaving Disney a little sooner than planned.
