I recently picked up Worms Open Warfare 2 for the DS, and became immediately addicted to Worms all over again. I'm happy to see there are a decent number of people playing, and hope I can have some good matches with all of you.

Fond memories of days past have been running through my head ever since I started playing again. Memories of oldschool Worms Armageddon. The days before BnG, Shoppers, Ropers, Forts, and Races.

I am curious to see how many of you remember the "good ol days". Back when all the new gametypes were being created by the community?

Do you remember when:

- Joining a game and seeing someone with a red flaming health bar was actually scary. You couldn't wait to get "that good". And don't even get me started on the blue flaming health bar!

- The conception of Fort games was just starting. The main difficulty was making sure one dipwad didn't place his worm inside the wrong fort at the beginning of the match.... which almost always happened.

- Wormsnet ranking actually worked for a while... 'till someone hacked it and they took rankings away. Why oh why did you take the rankings away Team17! Whyyyyyyy!

- The Worms Armagged Patch was due out any day... soon... any day... where the hell is it? Worms World Party!? Nooooooooo!

- Ropers are the new black. Everyone is doing it. (Extra points to anyone understands what I mean when I say: He spiked into a shadow, then did a reverse wizard.) After a few weeks you are playing 15 sec Pro matches. Hells yes.

- Sigworms are the new craze. I help found a site called "Sigworks" that will create custom sigworms for the masses. (It's still archived on the net! http://web.archive.org/web/20001206123800/http://go.to/sigworks)

- You break several keyboards because you play too many Ropers. It's only the space bar really, but you NeeeeeeeeeD it!

- Worms Con was being planned, and it was going to happen! (Exta points if you were on the list for a possible free trip down.)

So far the only person on the forums I recognize from the old days is Vader. I remember being absolutely blown away by his flash work. It's still awesome. I'm sure I may have run into a few of you over the years. Tho it's been... quite a few years since I last played worms.

Let me know if any of these hit home, and be sure to add me to your friends list! Peace out.

WormsCon was a hoax, CoLoN probably wanted to rape us all, I did sign up for the free plane trip, though.

But it was nice to think it was real, at least for a little while haha!

And technically, the WA patch did happen. It hasn't brought the rankings back yet, of course, but it has kept quite a few people interested and, more importantly, around. So in case official rankings and flaming bars do make a comeback someday, WormNet1 won't start at square one; there should be enough oldies left to make sure no newbies are entrusted with the pretty health bars. ;)

Anyway, welcome back. Consider yourself invited to the IRC channel just below my avatar if you're into that sort of thing.

Ditto.

I got W:A late on. A load of Beta patches were already made.

Well, he lost me at 'understands'. Shouldn't there be a 'who' in before that?

Can't say I remember any of that, but I do remember finally getting to play the Worms 2 demo and saying "Wow that looks different".

A spike into a shadow is a warlock, and a wizard is a dragon with a warclok instead of a normal shadow, a warlock into a wizard is pretty simple, however I'm not sure what a reverse wizard would be, maybe a double spike to go down the other side of the island instead of a spike-shadow?

And this sort of talk is why no new Worms game will ever come close to being as hot as WA. :p

i remember all of that, too well.

and yes, back when we made forts, it was on the honor system. can't believe team17 has put it in virtually every version of worms since then. pretty cool.

Really? Man, I thought that was only based off of the WWP forts, not the other way around...

Forts was one of those schemes that the community was dreaming of being able to produce back then when Worms1 was barely out in the stores. Having a team of worms in their own fortress throwing stuff to the other fort got people excited and it was W2 I guess were it all started to kick in.

Haha nice! I knew someone would know what I was talking about. I threw in "reverse wizard" just to see if anyone would come back with the fact that it's not really possible. /clap

I am kind of dissapointed that there is no official Roper scheme. That said, I have found it quite hard to get used to using the Dpad to rope. I'm sure I'll get better with time, but I don't know if I'll be able to get as good as I was with the keyboard.

I'm glad I've sparked some good memories!
