:oI'm very new to worms and this might seem a daft question, but what are the gurders for?

I am stuck on level 1-5, I'm at the bottom of a cliff and the pirate worm is at the top and all I have is a gurder and a skipping rope. :o

girders are used for a lot of things but here are the most common two:

Use it to fill in a gap or to make a bridge
if you're a darksider then you can tilt it to make a shield.

In the puzzle levels they can be useful for bouncing weapons off.
