View Full Version : Version exclusives, my appologies, but this is confusing...

Many people, including the Wikipedia page, have stated that the PSP version exclusive was the ability to change hats. I'm fine with this, but I've yet to see this sited anywhere official, and I have reason to believe it may be incorrect(no offense, I'm not saying it is incorrect), at least in part...

First of all 1up.com's preview said the PSP's exclusives were online clans and downloadable content, and made no mention of hats. Given, this was before the games final versions, but it still raises questions for me.

Secondly, on gamestop.com's DS version page, it mentions access to 'modified' hats... I have no clue what that's about as a whole :P Still, it seems to me like the ability of changeable hats may not only be on the PSP version. The ability of customizing your worms seems pretty promoted, and I'm not so sure that they would make that the sole psp exclusive.

Finally, I've read a lot of different things about different PSP exclusives, either added to, or aside from, changeable hats. A lot of these may have been changed before the final release, but would all have been?

This all leads me to believe, in the least, that perhaps changeable hat's is not the sole PSP exclusive. Personally I'm thinking that maybe both have the ability to change hats, but the PSP has more custom content than the ds, as well as some other features, particularly dealing with online play.

Now please don't view me as arrogant, I'm not saying any of this for sure. I'm just a bit confused, and I've yet to see any official information on version exclusives. I know the game is released already in certain places, but unless someone owns both versions and has posted the exclusives of each, it would somewhat be hard to determine between the two. Even then people may not be listing all of the exclusives for either version, and that's what I'm really curious about. The only corporate review I've found didn't say much aside from the DS' exclusive mini-games.

So in closing, does anyone here know for sure what ALL the version exclusives are? Not that it'll sway the platform I'll buy it on, I'm just a curious person I guess!!!

Thanks for your time and efforts, and sorry if this didn't come across correctly!

It's a mistake. The DS version doesn't have hats.

DS:
mini games that use microphone or stylus
unique worm names can only be used with people on your friends list
minimap
less delay between turns in an online game

PSP:
online clans
I think unique worm names can be used in all online games (there is still a profanity filter)
you can send messages but they have to be edited before you go online
downloadable content (landscapes and flags)
hats
higher resolution graphics
I assume the PSP AI can make better moves in less time (much faster CPU helps). There are likely to be many AI differences between the games.

I posted about the Leaderboard differences in this thread: http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33829

Thanks, that's what I was lookin' for ^_^

To me, neither really have any overpowering exclusives aside from those that come with the system's differences in general, which could sway someones decision.

Your assumption is incorrect.

Your assumption is incorrect.

Why do you think that?

The PSP should be able to calculate more possible moves with more weapons in a shorter amount of time than DS. Both versions have quick reacting AI.

I have yet to see the DS AI use the ninja rope and there are less AI levels to select from in the DS version. I haven't really played against the AI enough to compare difficulty between versions.

AI isn't really important to me. Puzzle mode and multiplayer are my favourite modes.

There are many more differences between the versions but they are both solid games.

You can move the camera on the psp versin when its not your turn to.

Yes but as soon as the other player moves, the camera forces you to look at their worm. You can fight it but it's annoying, you shouldn't have to fight the camera.

edit: Both versions have the camera issue but it seems more obvious in the PSP version.

You say "better moves in less time". The timeframe isn't all that different, to be honest.

Yep got me there, I should have said PSP can calculate better moves than the DS in the same timeframe. I'm not really sure how much better the moves are, I have seen the PSP WOW2 "very hard" AI, teleport/rope to get a crate and slide off the edge of the landscape. The DS AI usually just skips it's turn when it has no weapons it can use. Most of the schemes will have weapons the AI can use. The game doesn't allow AI players in rope races on either version. I'm not a fan of rope races, I just wanted to see an AI team attempt it.

I noticed both versions allow starting offline deathmatch schemes with no human players, a demo/screensaver mode.

Can't you form clans with the DS version? Im sure the tv advert showed "Form Clans Online" then showed a DS playing the game. Though I don't really see the point of it. It hardly makes a difference playing W:A on wormnet.
