I added some extra features, check the worms-league mb for a list of them..

I know this isnt like the old snooper! But I plan on improving it quickly, also adding things such as file transfer =)!

well frankly, its abused. everyone spamms and theres always like 10 snoopers or more in ag. plus the snoopers dont get lag but the w:a people still do.... in spades now, since snoopers dont shut up!

personally i think this should be stopped.

hey hold on here n00b, u dont relize how hard to program sumin like this is, this is a great progie. and dont quote stupid stuff, i was there when that happened. if its ne1s fault its urs for a bad connection or comp...so dont go around complainin about good work...give it a week or so for people to get this out of there system and im sure not as many people will be on it...would u rather just talk? or talk and play? btw toto, awsome job, ur a god m8 keep this stuff up.

hey hold on here n00b

n00b? ok... right... hmm.

u dont relize how hard to program sumin like this is

yes i do. its been done by many people and its widely known that its not too easy. however all the data that this program uses to connect can be simply found by opening the wa.exe in a hex editor. its a matter of testing what works after that. i myself helped to test this program in its early stages back when i didnt realize it was more than a personal project.

this is a great progie.

its useful, yes, but at the same time the accideltal effects arent the best.

and dont quote stupid stuff, i was there when that happened.

it happened in a private aim conversation. you weren't there. but maybe i shouldnt have quoted this, following your advice.

if its ne1s fault its urs for a bad connection or comp...

i have a high speed connection and it is widely known that a simple w:a fault, not connection or computer, is to blame for the chat lag. maybe thats why EVERY worms user experiences it. the snooper bypasses the problem but the people ingame still have their chat lag as normal, plus all the snooper chat which increases the clog considerably. dont forget you also have the added chat of everyone asking who the "people with _ are", etc.

also about 60% of snooper users i have seen are polite but the rest spam like mad! many messages get out of hand and this software needs some serious spam filters.

give it a week or so for people to get this out of there system and im sure not as many people will be on it

this i am trying now. it was one of my hopes too. what else can someone do really, if he's flamed for opposing something.

would u rather just talk? or talk and play?

i dont quite understand what you mean here. it seems if you are implying that talk and play is better, but the snooper doesnt do both.

let me end this, perhaps contradictively, that i dont want a fight. i just think this program has problems that should be fixed now and not after a trial period. im replying offensively to a flame in this reply.

also i fully realize that toto can permanently disable the snoopers, etc. but that doesnt fix any problems it has while they are enabled.

toto has put some restraints on this snooper which i think he has done a gud job on so hopefully it wont be abused just like silkworm 3.5 was.

Hopefully in later developments the program will become more complex and will have more saftey features.
A good reason for this program is that i can check who is on wn at the time and also arrange clans matches without having to hang around.

Just look at snooper as being a gud thing aswell and not thats its all a bad thing Annelid. Out of everything comes some gud :)

This sort of program will probably not be necessary in the near future...

The WA patch is coming, and allows minimisation from anywhere (at least in the menu's/WormNET - not sure about multiplayer games...), and the chat lag is gone.

I also believe Team17 is looking at making an ICQ-like plug-in to achieve the same sort of thing as this program.

At the same time, I hope they block this kind of client from connecting, although I spose "good luck" is in order if they try... If there is a will, there is a way.

I also note that the file is no longer available for download?

Many wormers do also need to do other things online, and keeping some version of a 'Snooper' program really helps.

The 'patch' should help there, from what I've heard.

But, As to the new 'Patch'.... all I can say is that It sounds great.... IF it's ever released. I've been a wormer since the 1st realease of Worms, and heard many things... and seen very few results.

No offence, but I'll believe it when I see it.

toto.... kudo's on having enough interest/ability to develop this version of Snoop... but the spam filters really need work. I hope you'll keep going with it myself.

Dare I even ask...... ?

I believe he took it down so he could add in some filters, and fix a few bugs. A day or 2, probably.... not years [cough, cough]

I just noticed my tag on the other message, LOL
Not often I get called a 'Newbie' anymore. Think I first got worms in what?... '91? I forget, it was DOS version

It is coming - I got sent a copy of it within the last week and have since tested it out. There are a couple of neat features in it, but the net code isn't yet in the patch I've been sent... "written, now being introduced", I'm told.

As Spadge has said to me in an Email, "..hopefully we've seen the back of the dark days now." - I agree completely, and think that we have. I can understand your cynacysm though... it has been a long time - you just have to read the text spelling out the date of the last league reset to know that.

hehe

I picked it up from somewhere...

I'm making a site (its about 80% done, I want to put it up now but need a server host) which has that kind of content in it - cyber humor basically. Good fun :).

In fact, it's been introduced for a long time now, but it isn't in that patch because it connects to a local server here (my debug machine in fact). So if you tried to connect to WormNet, you wouldn't have much luck. However, we've disabled that for Deadcode (else he'd have the same problem) and that's the patch you're using. :)

Of course, your version still won't work on WormNet because you'll just get out of sync straight away because the new features won't work with people running without the patch. So you can't see the network code working - but at least you can see that there's no chat lag...

It's been forever since i've seen WormNET Snooper!

Back around the time when the W:A ranks left the game lol

So I take it that Wormnet is still an IRC based server :(

OOOOh yeah. No chat lag is bliss.

But I've been able to notice some other (perhaps unintentional) things, including some crashing with the minimise feature :). But I've mentioned that. Now I just want a test server available online so I can play more... although that too would require other patched players.

AFAIK, yes, it will continue to be so.
Can we possibly ban IRC clients, properly, this time?

AFAIK it's not possible to ban clients from an IRC server - not with any effectiveness anyway. Problem is that Worms will have to connect to it somehow, and so that can be mimicked. I know this is true for any client\server, but it's even easier with a text based published protocol (IRC)

OK, people may not be able to cheat as easily given Lion's efforts, but people will be able to **** about with their connection.

Huge apologies on resurecting this, does anyone have a download link? I've googled but to no avail.

I have this on my old drive. Now if only I could find the time to connect it.

However, Toto's snooper really isn't anything special. It was the first unofficial snooper and wasn't very developed. It was great at the time, being the first, but Annelid's Super Snooper is better.

Even so, I suggest you look to mIRC for connecting to WormNET, as that is a much nicer environment than Annelid's Super Snooper. It puts all private messages in their own windows and suchlike. It doesn't show a games list, but then again, neither does Toto's snooper.
