WOW2 US Release Date Pushed Back
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 31/08/07 8:59pm UTC

According to Amazon.com, the American release of both the DS and PSP versions of Worms Open Warfare 2 has been pushed back to September 18th. This has obviously not impacted the UK release , which is today. You lucky people.

Again? If they keep doing this, WOW 2 will come out on october.

It's only been pushed back by two weeks. Two weeks. It's not uncommon for games developed in Europe to come out a little later in the US.

Its not pushed back to the 18, thats just when Amazon gets their copies. I called my local gamestop today and they get it on the 5th

Well that's indefinably rubbish of Amazon, if it's true.

Edit: It should be noted that my trust in GameStop/EBGames (they're the same company) is roughly equal to my acceptance of Scientology as a valid Religion - namely, I don't trust GameStop/EB at all. When an emplyee tell you that a game was cancelled purely because the company have stopped taking pre-orders, and when they tell you they can't take your debit card because, and I quote, "it doesn't have bumpy letters," your faith in their ability to operate as a business begins to wain.

My cousine (by the way he joined yesterday, his name is pieman455) told me that somtimes when you sell them a game they'll go to the back and wrap it up and call it new. this is just wrong and can cheat you out of your money.

Well, Team17 are based in Yorkshire, which is in England, so that probably explains why Europe got it first.

Probably the best thing to do is to e-mail Amazon.com and ask them why they say the game has been delayed almost a month. It does seem a bit silly to me.

No. The only difference is that the American version must include an ESRB notice which says "Gameplay experience may change during online play". That's the only real difference here.

Doesn't the european version also have different languages to choose from?

With the handheld games, the multiple languages are usually still included in the US release. Sometimes. Maybe.

Cool, so it's a good thing that I ordered the UK version then? I wish THQ could get a decent Japanese distribution network (and localization team). I have a feeling that, though it probably wouldn't be a blockbuster, this game could do moderately well here. Just change the name to "Worms: Bikkuri Donkey"* or something like that and start a small media campaign in Famitsu and so on emphasizing the cute worms and goofy weapons.

*Not really though. I'm pretty sure "Bikkuri Donkey" is already trademarked. Maybe Worms Yasen (ワームズ野戦) as a pretty direct translation could work, or just katakanaize the whole English title.

I'm fairly certain that the series has been popular in Asian regions. OnlineWorms and Worms World Party Aqua are proof of that.

I reckon Capcom and Team17 should team up again.
