How will the custom maps on the DS work?

In particular:

1. Can you use them in local wireless, hotseat, and CPU only modes
2. Can you use them online
3. Can you draw them yourself?

I saw a video on ign about drawing maps. the only thing I know is: you can draw it yourself and it is quick and easy. so it looks like a pretty good feature:)

There is a fully featured editor available inside the game, so you can create whatever landscape you want, including race maps.

You can use custom maps anywhere in the game really, so both online as offline in all modes. Online custom maps are only available if you start a friends match though.

Is there gonna be chat and whatnot w/ friends, or will there be a friends/rivals system like on Metroid Prime: Hunters?
