This will be my art thread from now on, since in the first i was just introducing myself and the other was about my sigworm.

Here's my first attempt at making a comic:
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25690859/

I hope you guys enjoy it and those who are subject of the comic don't get too ticked off with me cause it's just a joke. :p :D

Suggestions and critiques, please... ;)

The only problem with it is that it looks a bit like the worm in the third frame is holding the hammer, which doesn't make much sense. Otherwise, great. Nice avatar, too.

Hmmm...not quite... if you look at the hand position you would see it's the same position as the 2nd frame... though i get your point, that hand is bad positioned, indeed. And thanks... :)

Not likely, that was just a strip for fun, it's not like it will be continued or something like that. Though, yea, i plan to make a comic with a plot and some forum members.

And as you said yourself on other thread, i think you should, "enhance" your sig a little bit, mate. :)

Yea, it's bad positioned... i tried to keep the hand at the exact same place as the frame before it, but i wouldn't say it looks like it's holding the hammer. If you look at the hand "pose" u'll see it couldn't be holding it. :)

I had these layers in this order:

Lineart: set to multiply
Shading: 90% opacy, set to multiply.
Color: Ordinary layer
Background: Just plain white.

I used a fuzzy brush to do the shading, and I used the magic wand and grew it by a pixel each time. Your pencil lines are smooth enough for it to work.
Though the picture was kinda small, so growing my selection by just one pixel made the selection kinda wonky. ALWAYS color the picture when it's big, and resize afterward.

Thanks, dude, but that's not quite the result i want out of that picture. Using the threshold tool (as i supose you did) only gives the picture a "paint-made" look and the colours you put on it are kinda flat, with no shading or whatsoever. No offence, nothing personal, i know you can do better. :)

Like i said to Pigbuster on dA, i don't want put any colours in the drawing; i want to make a good colour drawing. :)

And, please, enough of colouring my drawings, i think i got the point already. ;)

Threshold is a tool in photoshop/GIMP that makes a picture only 2 colors, B+W. It can be good for coloring, but 404 likes his pictures to look more handdrawn than "Done-in-MS-paint".

Riseeeeeeee! Rise from the tomb my little thread, riseeeee!!!!!!! :D

Ok, guys and girls, this is a picture of Rarsonic's sigworm. Yes, him, Rarsonic!

- Erm... Error... why the hell did you drew him and not us that requested on the other threads?

Hmm... well mainly because i didn't have a good idea about your sigworms yet, or cause i've been busy drawing that picture for splapp's competition (The ****tiest christmas ever (http://www.deviantart.com/view/26607554/)) or even maybe because i was thinking about a plot for a comic that i'll start soon enough.

But actually because Rarsonic's avatar was pretty damn ugly (don't bother looking at his profile page cause he changed it already  ). I felt some pity for the poor boy with that horrible avatar so i decided to draw him a better avatar (which turned out into this picture).

Well, enough of talking, to the picture: Rarsonic Revisited (http://www.deviantart.com/view/27045514/)

- Right, Error, but you've overlooked quite a few elements from his sig!

Yes, of course, that's what the "revisited" stands for. I took his sigworm and changed some stuff in order to make it a little cooler (in my opinion, of course) and better to draw, trying to keep it's original look and essence. ;)

Anyways, i hope you guys, girls, worms and Rarsonic itself enjoy it! And keep watching for the comic to come! ;)

EDIT: Oh, and i was almost forgetting! If you want an avatar out of the picture, Rarsonic, just tell me. ;)

Rarsonic
30 Dec 2005, 22:59
Loved you drew me :) *cries* *needs to get practice*

I know it is revisted, Error, but there are some obvious issues:

Being Rarsonic under a suit, how do you want it to have eyebrows? The same goes for the visor. And when i thought about my sig, i didn't want it to be a cyber-punk sigworm(meaning the backpack generator). Of course i like your drawing, but... well... i do not know... :-/

It's not revisted, it's revisited. :)

And they're worms for christ's sake! They don't follow regular laws of physics, so, yes, they pretty much can have eyebrows even wearing suits over their heads. It would be weird if they did not have the eyebrows. :)

And, yeap, i thought of a better version of the visor that could still show the worm's pupils. And i didn't mean it to be cyberpunk either, but your sigworm's description frankly does seem a bit cyberpunk.

I'm usualy against those killer-machines-with-overpowered-equipment kind of sigworms myself, but in your case i had a good idea for a picture, so i drew it. You're not forced to like it, mate, that's just my version. ;)

And, yeap, i thought of a better version of the visor that could still show the worm's pupils. And i didn't mean it to be cyberpunk either, but your sigworm's description frankly does seem a bit cyberpunk.

Yes. But i do not want Rar's suit to look like the uber-loaded barroque suits that currently appear on cyberpunk thingies.

I'm usualy against those killer-machines-with-overpowered-equipment kind of sigworms myself, but in your case i had a good idea for a picture, so i drew it. You're not forced to like it, mate, that's just my version. ;)

I have to edit my sigworm to clear things. Rarsonic only kills when needed(for example, enemies. When Rarsonic is on killing sprees, it does that only to make fear). It does not kill to kill, Rarsonic has a reason. So i do not think about Rarsonic about a killer machine (althrough AECA is a bit overpowered :p ).

And i like it. Thank you again for draw me good. :)

I understand that you think i made a lot of mistakes there and that you might be a little disappointed about it, i don't blame you for that. But all that i changed i did consciously, that's why i called it "another version" a "revisited version". :)

So try to think of it as indeed another version, a different version, and not as your regular sigworm. ;)

Hand, piece of paper, mechanical pencil and a rubber. I just scanned it and coloured with photoshop with no real trick, just the brush and some layers.
And, yes, i stoped with programming for a few weeks cause i was damn stressed by it. As soon as i return to programming, i'll restart the league deal.
Btw, if I don't post in an art topic, it's because I don't have anything constructive to say
That's a wise thing to do. I wish more people did that instead of posting the same thing other people said previously over and over...:(
But his eyes are fairly odd. They make him look like he's a bit ill. They probably should have looked a bit more evil-like. Remember, Rarsonic is supposed to be a bit of an evil character.
I've read his profile before he changed it and that didn't seem evil to me. The eyes are odd because that was suposed to be this...i don't know...visor thing; i guess he had that before changing the profile. Besides, if you look at the picture as whole, you see that "evil eyes" have nothing to do with it. You can't have a character with just one strict expression. ;)
Incidentally, Error, have you seen my 12DOC thread yet as I know you wanted to see me do more drawing.

Cell shading was invented to replicate the simple style of shading and colouring used a lot in cartoons. So cartoon shadiong would probably be correct.

Yeah, I think Paul's gonna need a band-aid for that one.

Lol...finally someone said something about the smoke!
I'm aware of it, man... i was aware even before releasing it althought i had 2 options: 1) change the shading 2) change the lineart

And since i didn't have any more ideas of how could i shade it and i couldn't bother my lazy ass to redraw and rescan the whole thing, i left it like that. I promise i'll make beter smokes on the episodes to come... :p

And what's with the brown blood?
Actually, that can vary from monitor to monitor, computer to computer. I see it as a maroon... red-ish... but i gotta admit that's not the usual color people pick for blood. I tend to use more gray-ish colours at my stuff... i like the pale looking of it rather than that bright, eye-hurting colors we usually see around. But i'll take not that i have to make it more red-ish... :)

Thanks for the criticism, man...i'm glad someone actually cared to make some... ;)

People can be easily impressed. A picture with a lot in it is often impressive, even if each detail of it isn't particularly good or impressive.

This picture that I did here (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/19875207/) was actually very easy to draw. Each bit was very simple and basic. It's nothing spectacular. It's not even that well drawn and has no effects in it. The only real good thing about it is the fact it has a lot in it. The only thing it took to make is time. That's how easily people can be impressed.

Of course you all probably know this. If of course each little detail was drawn well, then the overall picture would be very good (like this one here (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/7954862/) (she also did a coloured one of it). Time is all it takes (although that is where the difficulty comes in).

Aku, why don't you try "loosening" your art a bit? You switched from sprites to vector art but i gotta say i see little effort in making it any different from the sprite's ctrl+c/ctrl+v style. Indeed... that was, by far, the most dificult frame to draw and colour... the hand probably follows a former lightsource. I'll have that fixed tomorrow. The lightsource is still lower than the worm there, so i'll have to check on how to shade that thing properly.

If I had one complaint, it would be how you seem to have married the C and V keys of your keyboard.what? you expect him to redraw the EXACT SAME SCENE 6 different times? it's stationary, why on earth would he redraw it? animators essentially use copy+paste. would you prefer THEY redraw each frame?

Amazing comic.

Like, seriously amazing.

I kind of wonder about the shading sometimes, in particular the sun is usually behind them if panel 2 and the shadows on the floor in the other panels are anything to go by, but on the worms themselves they seem to have the light coming from the opposite direction. Honestly, I think it actually looks fine as is and I'm only being really nitpicky, because I don't know if having all of their faces etc. in the shadows would look any better, but y'know... I just say to myself that the sunlight is really ambient and then that tends to solve things ;)

I love the way you blurred the background in the last panel because the "camera changed focus". I thought that panel where it splits in two and the only thing that changes are your eyes was really effective. I love the drawing of the bull. I love the "trail" of the "milk" coming (hyuk hyuk) from Error's mouth. Hell, I love everything about this comic.
Hence why I said "If I had a complaint". I never minded copy-paste artwork myself, but from what I can gather, general consensus is that unchanging camera or duplicate expressions are not a good thing.
Ehh.... not necessarily. Generally people tend to moan if a comic is nothing more than "talking heads". If the entire comic was that same pose, then I'd probably have a problem with it, but in every panel I'd say the panel is focusing on the right stuff. (The only exception I could probably make is the one where Error has the milk and is inserting the straw, as there's technically no need to see Aku in that panel, but he is talking to Aku so it's best to keep him in there. Even if I were to change it, I have no idea what would be more effective, if anything. I say it's perfectly fine as it is.)

P.S. Did I mention that I think this is wonderful?

The shading is consistent with the exception of panel two, that has another kind of dramatic effect to emphasize the angle of the camera. That was meant to be.

I got the bull this morning at first shot! HA! Total fluke but i couldn't stop laughin' at it... bulls in speedos are the best! :p But he wasn't actually planned to be there. I thought of him last night while i was preparing to sleep. The joke would end with... well... the graphical explanation of what was the content of the boxes but i thought that some people might just not get it just by looking at the... liquid... viscosity. I actually passed to the whole comic as if it was an animation quite a few times. And i thought of it as if it was, hence the frames with similar poses.

As mentioned previously. I laughed like a mad man while drawing that bull. It almost drew itself, man... false modesty aside, that one turned out great.

It's pure awesome, only point I could say something about it the characters you used, Muscular Worm! Whoosh! isn't evil and generally does no harm. I like number 2 - round bubbles use up too much excess space, the ones with cropped corners look almost clichéd and the ones in the middle have a good amount of give in them in terms of shape rigidity/formality combined with the pleasing aesthetic associated with round bubbles.
