View Full Version : Game runs great on WineHQ, except for changing names...

I bought the game under my Windows Bootcamp installation on my 2011 Macbook Pro 13" and to my dismay found that even with the newest drivers installed, the game didn't get past the first "press enter" screen.

Still, I didn't want to give up so easily. So, I setup a Wineskin for Steam and by extension Worms and lo and behold it works, with the single tweak of having to rename/delete the "Memorybufferedfilter.dll" in the "Redist" subfolder. This only seems to stop the videos from playing, so, no harm done. If you leave the DLL unaltered, the screen just goes black, where it wants to play the Team17 video and never recovers...

So the game works great and smooth, even on the old MBP13's sucky IBM HD3000 chipset. The only irritating problem is, that for the heck of it, whenever I try to rename a worm or profile or create a new team listing, the game freezes. In my Windows Bootcamp installation, I can now access the menu, since only the ingame parts seem to crash and there it is no problem to rename the worms (just a text box anyways...). So, I can't really figure out, why it would crash for that simple feature on WineHQ, when everything else, including choosing uniforms and playing whole in-game sessions works brilliantly. Maybe the "Memorybufferedfiler.dll" is at fault. Who knows? :D

Well, I guess I should be happy, I got it to work at all. So, maybe my little experience will help one or the other of you hopeful Macbook owners :)
