View Full Version : Reactions after the first week

Heya, all. Once upon a time I was wondering what a waste it would be, if there wasn't an official Worms game in Facebook and look... there was! And when I had got the closed beta invitation, it was time to play, which started a little bit more than a week ago.

And I have to say it has been a nice time, though it took a while to get grip of whole game, but after I got beyond that, it's has been enough fun. The first days I spent mostly on Challenges, because I needed the fast money, but usually once in every reinforcement set I played against professor, which NEI (non-existed intelligent) is quite stupid, but at least I have been able to practice with bazooka and grenades and become quite good with them though not any near perfect. I have spent my money to hats (some of which are now useless, because I have almost the best coin "collectors"), my island and of course weaponry, though I mostly concentrate on task and achievement weapons.

Here are some notions I've made during the week. Some of this stuff is said already in Suggestions or in Bugs subforums, but since these are only my own thoughts, I'll post them here anyway.

- Achievements are nice and quite motivating, even though I'm saving the money one for the last (I'm kinda against using real money on FB games). That won't take too much time either, since I think Finish 4000 games online achievement will be the second to last to be finished and I've managed to play total two online games during the week, so... any day now. :D

- Where are the team names? I have my worms named, but what fun is it, if you can't set up a team name?

- Levels become quite useless after lvl 13, when you can buy holy hand granades and that was when I changed my xp hats to money hats (except for one worm for which I saved money to buy the Trapper Hat). There are no more weapons to unlock and if you are looking for maximum amount of money or xp, all the best hats can be get at that point or before. Of course there is that reinforcement issue (+1 worm at every tenth level), but few worms either way doesn't yet make a big difference to total play time.

- I know making games isn't free and that why your purpose is to try to get players money and stuff (I don't mean this as mean way as I put it, sorry), but the reinforcement thing is a kinda dull. Since I can have now 17 worms, it takes 85 minutes to get them full, when you can only play like 20 minutes or so per session (if you don't level up during that). I want to buy weapons and stuff with my game money so I don't use them on worms itself, so it is always a long wait with reinforcements, so I don't wonder why so many are stopping playing the game because of that (according to Stop playing -thread). Of course this is the way many FB games operates, but usually there is even a chance you don't lose your live, so your game would cost lives only if you lose the game. That's why Worms is the strictest one I've seen so far. That's why there should be even some kind of practice game mode (or something), which you could play when your worms are gone, but which wouldn't get you any money or xp or anything ("Try this" in shop isn't quite enough).

Though I must admit that I watch my clock more often when waiting the reinforcements to regenerate and usually start to play just after they are full, which may have caused that I play more per day than I would otherwise. :p Even now that I'm writing this I'm on this mandatory break from game. :D

- Thanks to this forum I got enthusiastic about decorating my island and I've built one silly figure with island parts (maybe sending a pic later), but I'm having trouble with pieces. I build the figure and it is just fine for a moment, but after a while (after some refreshes or days) the game mixes them and they are not in the same order than it was at first, for example putting a sword behind the tower and after a while the sword is actually in front of the tower. Also if I put the pieces on air in some order, after a while the game makes a mess of them.

- First I thought that I cannot connect to online matches because of my slightly slow computer (this is almost six years old and running on Vista) but then I noticed from here that it's much more common problem and doesn't (maybe) have anything to use with my own computer. This doesn't matter me much, because until it's been investigated and fixed, I can use my time practicing against Professor and collecting some money to weapons to be ready when the war really starts. ;) What is more irritating is the fact that if I'm not playing for while but keeping the game screen open and come back later and trying to join the battle with Professor, the globe will spin forever and game never starts and I have to refresh the page. In match game has also crashed twice at the end of the match, so I have had to refresh the page and even though I would have won the match, I haven't got the rewards or anything, but lost the worms. Yippee!

- And why does the challenge points lower during the week? I don't get it.

- 3 minute rounds are just too short and it's almost impossible to get all enemy worms killed in that time. Especially when playing against Professor he usually waits until last second before skipping go. That why the game would definitely need some kind of Last Worm(s) Standing option which wouldn't be based on time but would let you to fight to the very end. And if this kind of option would come, it would make these next things more reasonable to put in game, when you would have to spend time with them ;) :

- Wind. I'm not that perfect with bazookas, but it was still much more fun to try operate them with wind.
- Ropes (and ninja ropes) and blowtorches. Now it's based on luck what kind of weaponry you can use in different kind of situations, because sometimes you are stuck behind tall tree/tower or inside the rock and can't use even grenades properly. With ropes (and ninja ropes) your changes to attack with much different weapons would be much better and blowtorches would help you get out of the bad places. Of course now blowtorch would be useless, because (at least with Professor) there's usually only one worm to have a second turn. Blowtorches would mean also campers, but with ropes there would be painful medicines for that.

Even if this sounded like a rant, this is just a collection of my thoughts formed during this week and I'm mostly enjoyed playing this game. Music is great and it's always fun to see other team's worms to hit or kill themselves. I also cannot wait this to be launched officially.

I still cannot believe that the wind and ninja rope are discarded for being " potentially too hard on the new players ". Where's the fun if not in learning something new? Is challenge not based on honing one's skill, does the mastering of a tricky weapon/factor in a game not reward you with fulfilling need to play it more, and more again?
I feel like the darkside of this forum for constantly pointing this out..

Also:
-hats with XP bonus: you will miss 'em after lvl 25 ;)
-I would also love to set my team name
-3 minutes is good for now,but with a bigger map and more worms per team (which I hope awaits us at some point) game would definitively need more time.

Every thing you said is true but one isn't my dear friend, I get why they didn't put wind in the game. Wind would only effect bazooka's which are two weapons. It's not realy worth it.

However I didn't get the roping part either, But people have diffrent opinions and we have to respect them. Well team17 is doing a good job, and maybe they think the rope would make the game very easy since islands aren't realy big so you get fast to the other side.

Happy Worming!

We never said we won't be putting the rope in the game!

Great comments guys, especially Sipuncula. We take into account everyone's comments in this forum so keep them coming! These forums have definately helped us to change the shape of the game for the better. :)

Well, if I was competing against friends (which I'm not right now), it would be nice if I didn't have to keep watch on that total meter all week just to see if it's lowered down. ;)

So, since I'm now lvl 23, that means I still have two levels to be happy. :D Well, of course it is nice to level up, but since all you get for leveling up is your reinforcements full, some weapons and cash, it's not that big deal. But in case I'm gonna miss XP's, I have couple of Snowman heads for that, but I don't think I'm using them very soon.

I understand this point of view, but there is another way of seeing the effect part. When I was competing against Professor, I first happened to master... well, not mastering, but getting better with grenades and then I got better with bazookas and found out that if you know how to hit worms with grenades, you know how to hit with bazookas. Of course with grenades, banana bombs, hhg's and such have to watch out the bounce effect too, but generally speaking, since the flight routes are exactly same. And I don't say this is a bad thing, but the wind could bring some difference on this matter. ;)

Great comments guys, especially Sipuncula.

Thanks. :)
