View Full Version : Small suggestions from a long-time Worms fan

Let me start off by saying that, as someone who's been playing Worms games for a very long time, I think Worms Revolution is the best entry in the series since Worms Armageddon--which is really saying a lot.

However, when I make that comparison, there are a few things that I still think Armageddon did better than Revolution. These are things that I would really like to see in a future update, as they would be pretty easy to implement.

(1) Finesse the small things

Animate the grave stones. Maybe have them sway side to side like in previous titles. Static grave stones are an eyesore.
Have worms slow down when they sink. Worms shouldn't sink as fast in the water as they fall through the air. Air bubbles or a zoom-in view of them drowning (a comic-books style frame or circle could be used for this) would be another nice touch.
Where's the home run music when you score a kill with a baseball bat?
Allow worms to skip on water when the angle/speed is just right.

(2) Other miscellaneous suggestions:

More sky space. In non-enclosed levels, worms go "off-screen" too easily. Raise the "skybox" or whatever it's called so that worms can jetpack easier and super sheeps can explore the sky. Clouds, smoke, mist, flies, or something would also be a nice touch at higher altitudes.
Bring back instant replays. These add extra drama to the final kill of a round and make well-executed kills more fulfilling.
Water-dwelling items or objects. How about piranhas, shark bait, or an electric toaster to use in spots with water? It would give players more incentive to use water-based weapons. (A toaster object or floating objects would also be pretty cool.)

Also, I have a weapon suggestion.

A weapon that could electrocute worms in water would be amazing!

I know that the lightning strike will be a part of the upcoming DLC, so it will most likely (or at least *should) damage worms in water in addition to its other normal functions.

How do you know that? Is there any info available about a DLC?

Actually, if you somehow get a large amount of water in a map, you will notice worms actually sink rather slowly. Logically you will not instantly lose all your velocity by jumping into just a puddle :p
Also: when you attempt to jump from a certain height into a pool of water, you are still able to take fall damage depending on the distance between your take off point and the water as well as the depht of the pool.

I actually meant the water at the bottom of a level, not the water-physics water.

Agree with all your suggestions sheeptamer.
The baseball bat is just dull without the home run music.
The end of a match really misses having the closing replay.

Also the original super sheep sound was much better than the current one.
What happened to being able to select which worm to use on your go?

What happened to being able to select which worm to use on your go?
There's a few ways you can do this.

If you want to be able to choose which worm at the start of every turn then...

Select Customise > Edit Game Settings > Choose the mode you want > Create Game Settings > Game Options > Set Worm Select to On

This will then let you cycle through and choose your worm at the start of every turn.

Or there's also a Worm Select utility which can be used during battle.

But worms are not visible underwater. How do you notice they don't slow down?

Was this thread here yesterday? If so, then oops. I created a "suggestions" thread too, only since I'm using a new account, it hasn't been approved yet. It if is approved, could a moderator lock/delete it?

As for the TC's suggestions, I completely agree with most of them. I too was wondering why there weren't more aquatic items such as electric-based weapons.

The suggestion of making worms slow down when they hit the static water (as opposed to the physics water) is an interesting one because like Thurbo said, the worms aren't visible when they break the surface. They look like they don't slow down because we don't see them slow down. It's kind of funny, but I noticed it too.

As for my own suggestions:

- The frame-rate on the PS3 version (and apparently other versions) is quite slow. There is also input lag, especially when panning or zooming the camera.

- The camera zoom would feel much better on L1 and R1 instead of the PS3’s triggers. Unless a menu is opened, these buttons don’t currently do anything in-game, so I don't see why this would be a problem.

- As has always been the case with Worms games on console, selecting a weapon can be slow and tedious. This could be improved in a few ways:
- You should be able to go through the menu faster by holding down the D-pad,
- instead of being forced to quickly tap it.
- There could be an option to swap the item select grid for a set of wheels that
- allow you to choose an item by using a control stick to point in 8 directions.
- Use L1 and R1 to cycle through however many wheels would be needed to hold every item.
- I’d like an option to remove various visual details. The shadow left behind after you blow up some terrain looks really cool, but it can be distracting. More importantly though is the background. They are really beautiful, but I think that they could be partially responsible for the lag issues. They can also be rather distracting at times.

- Some of the menu options could really use descriptions that you could toggle on and off with the triangle button. Here are some of the problematic menu choices:
o “Versus”: If I select it, I get a choice between “DeathMatch”, “Forts”, and “Classic”. Unless I select one of these, I have no idea that “Versus” simply means local multiplayer. I actually found the descriptions of these modes somewhere in the "How to Play" section, but it's frustrating to me (and probably even more frustrating for new Worms players) that the description of these options is so out of the way. Recently, I decided to finish the file that I started nine years ago on Final Fantasy IX. It had been so long since I played that I had forgotten what a lot of character abilities and equip-able did. What I didn't forget is that pressing the "Select" button instantly brought up a little dialog bubble with a quick description to set me straight. I'd like to see something like this in Worms Revolution.

- I really like the pre-made maps of Worms 2, Armageddon and World Party and I would definitely buy packs of them at a reasonable value.

What a monster of a post. I hope that I was clear enough. :)

He's probably complaining about the speed with which a worm's HP display disappears. It doesn't slow down when a worm hits the water. Not especially annoying because, as you said, you can't see the worms underwater anymore anyway.

Personally I prefer the way Revolution handles drowning to the hamfisted attempt to simulate the Worms Armageddon method used in the third-generation 2D titles (Worms Reloaded, et al.).

I agree with most of your points except the animated gravestone one , unless it has a reason to be animated (like a bonfire or something) it shouldn't be animated . I also miss the baseball bat music , I really like the new super sheep sound though I think the game could use some more musical cues to add to the feel of the game .

The ability to give players a coins at the start of the match in the gamemode menu , this would make for fun game modes where you start with (next to) none weapons and you have to strategically pick which weapons and utilities you want .

I want to be able to use UFO and telekinesis on sentry guns and mines , there are only a limited amount of physics objects on the map and their limited use makes their existence really redundant .

A snorkel utility to swim over the surfaces of water , both physics and normal water .

More weapons and utilities in general Worms Armageddon was a weapons kitchensink and it makes the game great , I'd like to see more original weapons like Boggy but wouldn't mind the return of weapons like mine strike .

It's actually part of the humour of this series to have lifeless objects that have no reason to be animated perform silly dances, including gravestones, crates or entire background skylines. It's almost completely removed from Worms Revolution except for the symbols on the crates.

It's indeed the best grave animation there ever was. From Worms 2, to be exact :p

It can also deal damage by exploding when killed.

I have some weapon suggestions. Here they are:

Ice Canon:
This weapon is fired like the standard bazooka, but the worms in the explosion area get freezed, so that they can't be controlled for 2 turns. The Damage is 60. There should be a way to unfreeze the frozen worms by putting fire on them.

Radiation:
With this weapon you can contaminate worms with radiation so that they loose 6 to 10 health points every turn even if they would die after getting that damage. The damage is always random and this weapon doesn't work on long distances.

Atom Bomb:
Falls down from the sky like the Bunker Buster and explodes as soon as it crashes into sth, but the explosion area is much larger and the damage a worm gets by a direct hit
is about 150. Plus the worms that take damage from the Atom Bomb get contaminated.

Fiery Bunker Blaster:
Behaves like the Bunker Buster, but it can go through the earth much deeper.
If it hits a worm or another object, it will explode and leave some fire, but it will still keep
going through the earth.

Fire Sheep:
(got idea from Xinos, http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42183)
The Fire Sheep is almost identical to the normal sheep. The only difference is that it leaves
a fire trail behind.

Ice Sheep:
Like the Super Sheep this Ice Sheep can fly, but it is flying slower so that it is easier to control it. In addition it freezes worms in the explosion area.

Water Arrow:
This weapon isn't affected by the wind and the gravitation and does 20 damage to worms on land.
If a worm is hit under the dynamic water, he gets double damage (40) and he gets stuck, thus he won't
be able to leave the water!

Please say what you think about them.
