View Full Version : Anyone remember BlameThePixel?

I used to be there around 2003-2004 I think and I wasn't even a teenager. Wow... has it really been almost 10 years already? The site was new back then and I had a different username but I distinctly remember a member (Was it "The Pope"?) who used to get angry with everyone in the comments. It's weird because I don't think Wall X Wall Shoppa existed back then and neither did CyberShadow. I also have a memory of uploading really bad gravestones on there and one of them being a Ghost Worm. I can also remember some member names: Star Worms, Squirminator, Bloopy, Random00, Fuzzball, and Zogger. Anyone else have early memories of that site?

Remember? It still exists: http://www.blamethepixel.com/
Of course it's not as active as it used to be, but it's still there, a few members might hang around here too. I remember the early days where all it had was little more than a white skin and some features. Never really got into the community though.
Squirminator and Bloopy are members of this forum, relatively active members too.
Star Worms I haven't seen in a while and I'm not sure about the rest.
The site is quite neglected and some pages are broken. As per the latest news item, Zogger has an actual child to look after now, although he'd kind of abandoned the website before that.
The Pope started out making gravestones for Worms and now he's a full-time artist: http://pahnl.co.uk

It is a shame that this website has somewhat been abandoned... It was (and still is) a great site. So many maps and schemes downloaded from there... The memories... *echoes out*
Wow.. it has been a long time. I was like "What site is that again? *visits* Oh wow, I totally forgot about that site."

This makes me think of the many times in WA where those stray pixels would always ruin your amazing shot.

I don't think I was ever angry in the comments, unless someone plagiarized my gravestones, hah. I'm pretty sure starting out in MS Paint, making those flags and graves, set me on the path I'm on now.
But back on topic, BTP was a fantastic community and resource. Things started to die some time after T17 went 3D...the death of roping: goodbye BRs, shoppas and propas, eh? The feeling of landing a tight mexi was beautiful, haha.
Although that period probably coincided, like Bloops says, with a lot of the admins getting on with their lives. A great stomping ground in it's prime, always fond memories of that place: the 'radio station', the javascript games, SPAZ hacking the site, the IRC channel, PixVille and no doubt a ton of other parochial stuff I'm forgetting.
Shoppers are still going strong in WA (or what mutation has come of them; I don't know how much they've changed, I wasn't around in the "golden age" of WA ;)), BRs and propers are quite hard to come by now though :/

I must confess I've been out of worms for over a year (after many wonderful years!) but I went back to BTP recently, and found to my surprise that I'd been sent 3 PMs in 2005/06  Today, in 2013, I've replied to them :D
I imagine that TUS largely fills the BTP niche nowadays.

Cheers, KRD, I may just sign up there.
I played a shoppa the other day, after I saw someone streaming the game on Twitch.tv and decided to install WA after half a decade, and it all came rushing back!

Hi there KRD, aka the Nordic-sounding Nogard der Naerok :) You saw me when I was at the peak of my worming powers in 04/05. Happy days...

Haha, was it the CosmoWright stream by any chance? I got linked to that in an unrelated community's IRC channel and watched a bit of it too!

You always did have a very good memory, heh. Happy days indeed. You should watch some of the CWT replays from the last two tournaments, that tournament has gotten really amazing, both in how entertaining the games are and in how it's all organised on the website (http://www.cwtsite.com/). They stream a lot of the more interesting matches with commentary these days as well, even Crespo himself this last time!
KRD, still kicking around on worms these days ill be damned (brushes off 10 years worth of dust). How's it going fella?

Even though I'm out of it, I'm very pleased with the ongoing success of CWT. I was skeptical at first about money being introduced, but that seems to be working fine, and with the streaming of matches too, it's hervorragend!

morning all! really wish i had time to play worms more, most of my worms interaction is on the development side now and even that is pretty limited. great to see some more if the old names about in here. were good times back then...
By the way, BlameThePixel's IRC channel is still reasonably active even though there's only 3 or 4 of us. Join us for old-time pixel hatin':

It's wonder this http://www.blamethepixel.com site is yet around.
The idea of a Pixel-Blaming Convention came up recently. Convention probably meaning 2 people cursing at afternoon tea. Not sure if it will ever actually happen though.
