View Full Version : The Good News Thread

Have some good news you're just itching to tell someone? ("I just won the lottery!") Or maybe you heard some news you can't wait to share ("Steven Spielberg is making a film about socks!").

Whatever the case, this is the thread for those times when you just want to stand in front of the world and say "TODAY HAS BEEN A GOOD DAY!"

Let the good times roll! :)

It's a local (in Cornwall) company that deals with multi-agency credit reports. I'm headed to IT and programming.
I'm amazed I got the offer; I have minimal programming experience and they had several hundred applicants apparently.
Whilst not as interesting as some of the stuff graduates I know have gone on to do, employment is employment and interesting things should happen.

I like the character design, the devil is great. I also think the thinner line-work that's used in the 'Coming Soon' banner looks more professional, I'm hoping you're going more for that look.

Also I misread the first one and thought it said "I won't sign anything until I speak to the cops" :p

So I am now officially finished my university degree! I shall be graduating with a 2.1 (second highest grade), which is pretty nice.

I also got an 84% in AI, which should really help with getting that PhD in AI that I wanted.

A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and IT, if you're interested. It also qualifies me as a chartered engineer too, I believe. I really need to look into that more.

2.1? What's the maximum grade in whatever system that is?
It goes
first class honours (70%+)
2.1 (second class honours, grade 1 - 60% - 69%)
2.2 (second class honours, grade 2 - 50% - 59%)
Pass (40% - 49%. And I think this is actually a third class honours by British standards, and a Pass there is 35%+)

For an American equivalent, supposedly I would've gotten around a 3.75 GPA.

Pooka
19 Jun 2012, 13:11
Yep, in the British system 40 - 49% is a third class with honours, and 35 - 39% is a pass without honours. Anything below 35% is a fail.

I got a 2:1 too. Nicely done.

We launched our second attempt to Kickstart PortsCenter last week, and six days in we've raised $1,142 - 27% of our target.

If anyone else wants to chip in to help fund a full series, [here's the link (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/BenPaddon/portscenter-a-webseries-about-change-and-video-gam)]. We have a Worms episode planned for the end of the series, looking at how the game has transitioned across various formats over the years.

I'm always wary of posting my own stuff to sites like Reddit. It feels like cheating, somehow.

Xinos
1 Aug 2012, 21:03
I wouldn't call it cheating at all, it's how things are done now a days. Get with the times man! Here (http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/xiucb/portscenter_a_new_videogame_webseries_on/) it is anyways, like it or not :p

Edit: It's mostly not cheating because it's incredibly difficult to get attention on that site. Slow content tends to get drowned in image macros.

To put it simply, I can't see what's unethical about it. It's a cool project that you (obviously) really like, and those people would be interested in that kind of stuff. So what's the problem? People frequent Reddit for things like this, and news sites can judge for themselves whether it's worth writing about. The only problem is if you're afraid you're overly biased, but that's a stupid thing to worry about.
There's unethical, and there's being needlessly polite.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (our publically funded network) won the rights to the next two Olympic games! They do a MUCH better job than the current network, CTV (fewer commercials, more variety, better commentary).

At the same time, though, they shut down 580 over-the-air TV transmitters outside of major urban centers...

So...how do I end this on a positive note...
