Just catching up a bit here.

There was an update the other day which is related to Steams Winter sale, new achievment that needs to be unlocked to enter the meta game they are doing this time. I expect Steam to publish details later today.

We should also have another update going live today with a few little presents for the failthful Reloaded players. The return of the Old Woman and the Longbow, a new theme and a new Wormsong homage. We've also made some tweaks to the Ninja Rope and fixed a few more bugs. :)

Oh my God!

Uhm... I think my Battlefield 3 copy will have to wait to be played! :D

What what what???

Very much appreciated from my side, especially an own theme song for Reloaded, but I'm a bit worried about changing the rope. It was the best in the whole series imo (related to actual gameplay. I know it's not as suitable for races and shoppa).

I think it's more suitable for Rope-knocking now.

Love the wormsong. Apart from the worms sounding like chipmunks :[

I preferred it when they sounded pitched, but "normal", not this chipmunkish squeak in their voices :p

Thurbo I would love your take on the tweaks to the Ninja Rope. I know we've probably upset the hardcore ropers even more with the changes but I think it behaves better than ever.

Is this update available for the Mac version as well?

Well, the worms feel a lot less heavy on the rope, which is the only thing I've noticed.

I don't like it and most other people don't do either, as it's too easy swinging yourself up and at the same time it doesn't feel as dynamic as it was anymore... kinda hard to explain.

Here's an idea: Why not make Worms Reloaded modable and leave the rest to the community? Or even better, get an additional application on Steam called "Worms Reloaded beta" or "Worms Reloaded Community" or whatever you can think of, which can be modified to people's likings. Let us change the game in-game as well as its files. Let us save the settings and to play online, everyone needs to play with the same settings. That would be awesome.

For a start we could have a few "official" mods, like one that emulgates Worms Armageddon as in number of teams and worms per team, weapons, map size, physics and so on, for example (this way people would get their "Worms Armageddon HD" they always wanted). I think that would be great.

You do notice that games that are completely customisable last longer than others? It would definitely be a step in the right direction. Check out the mods for Worms 4 Mayhem, one of the reasons there are more people playing online than in Ultimate Mayhem.

I played a few matches just now, and though I only used the rope a bit (didn't know it was tweaked in the patch), I didn't notice anything I didn't like about it. I don't mean to brag, but I consider myself a pretty good roper (if par time is clearing the 1st rope race map on the first turn, then yeah I can do that), so it may be that I just didn't notice anything because, if it was tweaked, then it definitely wasn't tweaked so that roping would be harder. I guess what I'm saying, is that I don't find anything wrong with the rope pre-patched or how it is now. Still feels natural to me. One poster said the majority doesn't like it now; I can't agree with this one (or I'm in the minority, however you want to interpret it).

As for the other updates: The Britannia landscape looks absolutely beautiful, and I like the Crazy Golf music playing in the background. The new (old) weapons are as useless as ever (longbow does very low damage... yeah you can attach the arrows to the wall and climb on them but when do you really need that? Old woman does good damage but it's hard to predict where it will detonate), but I'm not saying this is a bad thing, not at all. They are like they were in WWP, my favorite Worms title to date, which makes my nostalgia sensors tingle all over the place. And even if the new weapons aren't what you'd call 'anything special', they are still a nice bonus to the weapon catalogue. In overall, a very nice update with hearty addons, thank you Team17!

Yep, an ace patch. The roping is much better for the average gamer, though not really designed for the cult of the hard core ropers. Still, variety in our Worms games means there's one to suit everybody.

The bow is a bit useless, but it was always that way. Poor choice compared to the shotgun. It's a bit of fun though, and that's a very Wormy thing to be.

The granny's basically a holy hand grenade with a different delivery method, can be fun.

Good job the axe wasn't added. That really was useless, as unless you were attacking a worm with 1 health it would leave them alive and you usually right next to them every time. Not very handy. Bow and gran were probably the best choices.

Lovely theme. Very welcome.

Nice song. Shame the old music was wasted though. It would be better if, once the new song had been played, the old one was played before cycling back to the new one again. Just to get the best out of the work T17 has done.

I saw the in-game achievement screen picture bug that turned up with the last patch has been fixed (not all achievements had their pictures). Prolly an oversight when the 'Winterval' achievement was added.

I note the teleport camera shift bug is still in there. This is the most obvious bug to new owners of W:R and, though gameplay-wise this is a non-issue, it really detracts from the polish of the game and should be an easy fix. Perhaps in the next patch?

I did prefer the old rope. Now you can get everywhere on the landscape with a lot less skill involved, similar to Worms Armageddon.

Weapons can't just be "extremely useful". There needs to be some downsides for balance. The bow is much like the shotgun, it deals less damage but pushes worms further (also, the projectile doesn't take a straight path).

I hadn't noticed the bow pushes the worms further. Nice spotting, that man. That could come in handy.

For the average player the rope is still hard to master, but is not quite as daunting as it was. Perhaps it won't be the deciding factor in games so much and will encourage a broader use of skills.

I think I've said this before somewhere but I can't remember the exact context but... Worms Reloaded for us was about making the core Worms game more accessible to a bigger audience and as such it has been a huge success and has sold well over what we expected. It's a horrible thing to try and balance looking out for our most faithful and hardcore fans and making the game more accessible, which is to be honest where the money lies. We will probably see this taken a step further when Worms comes to Facebook as it's all about getting as many people as possible playing Worms. Seems to make good business sense.

I don't see how remaking an old game and changing the game play and dumbing it down is making it any more accessible than the pretty zooming graphics, fluid front end or the shiny new packaging is.

I think T17 biggest marketing problem (as far as worms is concerned) is that you have no standard anymore. when everything went to 3d the game play changed, when it went back to 2d it changed again. now you have 3 generations or more of worms fans that just continue to be disappointed with all the drastic changes in game play every time you guys remake the game. how is there even a core to the game left? don't you guys know "you should NEVER rewrite code from scratch"?

Please, Please just give us our second generation Worms engine with all the modern bells and whistles? please? just as many people would buy it as did this game or the console counterpart. why dont you guys just run with a standard engine and put out expansion packs with new missions, themes, game modes, hats ect. like the tony hawk or madden or ncaa franchises did? just keep the core of the game the same so we can all still play together on the same server and be jealous of the neat things we are missing out on by not having the newest expansion. Whats the effort to profit margin there? a few guys do it for free in their free time...

i mean, why bother updating a game you only plan to have around for short term financial viability in the first place?

Having played all of the third generation 2D games, I can tell there is a "core" to it. The Open Warfare series, A Space Oddity, Battle Islands and Worms Reloaded, they are all using a similar engine and a similar gameplay, thus they have a standard. The first third generation game (Worms Open Warfare) released in March, 2006.

That engine is different to the second generation and they probably changed it because of the outdated physics. I mean, from time to time there needs to be a change. Would you say creating a new engine for Worms 2 was a step in the wrong direction just because they changed the gameplay completely? The core gameplay of the first games was a lot more like the artillery genre.

Had a quick play, the rope to me feels much better, it's still a little odd when it passes above horizontal, cant put my finger on it, but does it not change swing input direction at the same time as WA did? Eitherway though, that's just something to get used too.

Biggest moan with it isn't so much how it feels using the rope but how worms fly / collide when not on the rope. There's something about their centre of rotation and how they bounce off walls that doesn't feel quite right...

I also noticed retail pack here in Serbia, which for some reason is cheaper 50 percent than on Steam. I'll finally get the game when I get the internet(living in village sucks here)...

You may want to look in to Satellite internet. It's getting surprisingly affordable now, and is two way.
