I (TheButterflyMon) asked @Team17Ltd this question on twitter and got no response.

Anyway, here is my question:

Do you guys have any plans to bring back 2D worms?

I've been following you guys since the Amiga days; just missed out on the last few years as I have been busy with work.

They start work on their first non-2D Worms game in ages and someone asks if they'll be doing a 2D one again. Natch.

As I said, I missed out on the last few years. Also, sometimes it is necessary to go back to ones roots in order to retain the original fan base.

Worms Reloaded was 2D and just because we've gone back to 3D it doesn't mean we've stopped making 2D games. Worms Crazy Golf is 2D.

Oh right. Well in that case, you mostly missed a lot of 2D games more aimed at people who hadn't played Worms before. Which is to say, very basic, rather cheap, and not a lot of weapons. Not worth picking up yourself, probably.
There was Worms: Open Warfare 2 (W:OW1 was one of those basic games) for handhelds. I... don't actually know much about it. Some really liked it, some didn't.
There's Worms: A Space Oddity for Wii, which is... different. Mainly intended for people who regularly had friends over that never played Worms before (although it sorta failed in that regard anyway). Most people thought it was sub-par. I loved it myself, but for a different reason. Don't bother with it.
And then there's Worms 2: Armageddon (XBLA) and Worms Reloaded (PC, Steam only). WR is basically the PC version of W2:A with the Battle Pack DLC. Despite the name, it's not related to Worms Armageddon. It's a pretty solid game, and pretty much the game to get if you want a new 2D Worms game.

Oh, and Worms Armageddon itself has been constantly updated since it's release too. Most people here consider the updated WA to be the best Worms game to date.

It's Battle IslandS. Why is everyone - and I mean, ev-ry-one, misspelling the title?

Anyway, Battle Islands is basically Worms Reloaded for Wii/PSP, but doesn't have as much features... therefore it's a different game experience, as every player has access to their own base with some islands around, where you can store your "tactics". When playing in tactics mode, you can use each of them once in a match before the round starts. They vary from teleporters and airplanes, which let you choose your starting positions, to airstrikes or sentries that can all be placed before the round begins. It's pretty interesting. When playing ranked, you may also steal an item from your enemy if you defeat them.

Thanks!

Great to see you guys keeping the old fan base.

Now, I'm back to squishing worms again!

It is. Shame Rare failed to do the same.

Are you talking about GoldenEye?

No, i'm talking about the company that made goldeneye. They abandoned their fans to make gimmicky sports games and completely ignore any fan feedback.

Game. Gimmicky sports game. They only made one. And it did win several awards, so I don't think you can really call it gimmicky either.

That, and the whole reason they stopped making games for their old fans was because said games just weren't making much of a profit. That's what they(Microsoft) said on record, anyway.

Well but what about Time Splitters 2? It's not Rare, but it has the GoldenEye creators team.
