I've been playing W:A for a few years on this system. I'd been using 3.6.19 on Windows XP.

Same system, I did a clean install of Windows 7, and a clean install of W:A from disc. Program worked at this point, but for the color palette issue. I updated to 3.6.31 and the color palette issue was solved.

Now however the front end freezes almost immediately (~1/2 second of animation at the longest). The audio is still playing in the background, every time I press a key I get a windows system sound effect. When I shift+escape to minimize and then restore the game I get a black screen with a white frame where the W:A logo should be.

I'd read the known issues and the troubleshoot FAQS. I've tried all of the registry tweaks and reset the tweaks.

It appears no error log is generated.

Have you tried pressing Enter, Escape or Alt+F4? It sounds like an invisible message box popped up. Similar issues have been reported with ffdshow.

If that doesn't work: please install WormKit (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/) and the following WormKit module: 32227

Run the game via WormKit, reproduce the freeze and press Ctrl+Break. W:A should close, and a file named FREEZE.DMP should be created in your W:A folder. Find and post this file here.

Thanks for the quick response. After working on it for a bit I fixed what was an issue with getting my video card to properly recognize. Windows 7 installed a generic video card driver by default. So I updated to the correct driver and didn't even need to use the WormKit. Thanks CyberShadow!
