StepS
10 Aug 2011, 21:53
WA Localizer (or wkLocalizer) is a WormKit module by Kawoosh, bundled with an editor, which allows you to translate W:A fully (frontend, in-game, etc.). The langpacks are placed in the /Languages/ folder of W:A directory, and can be chosen from the Options menu.

http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/844/langs.png

The latest stable version is 1.0.0.2 of the module (12 Aug 2011) and 1.0.5.26 of the editor, and they're written on C++.
Download:
Installer (http://myfiles.my1.ru/wa/wk/WA-localizer-installer.rar) (1,25 MB) or the archive (http://myfiles.my1.ru/wa/wk/wkLocalizer.rar) (1,06 MB)

A new version - 1.0.0.2 (of the module)
Changes:
[FIX] Fixed fatal crash when more than 14 worms die after turn (even if no custom langpack was chosen)

It's strongly recommended that you update. :cool:
Links are the same (in the 1st post).

Okay, making steady progress. So far, so good, but here are some features I'd like to suggest that would help me quite a bit:

-Make the strings instantly editable when selected, like the cells in Excel. I know this is already possible with CTRL+Enter/Up/Down, but always holding down that one key is kind of annoying, especially on this laptop keyboard.
-Being able to allocate more screen real-estate to the string list would be nice, like with resizing parts of a window in other programs. Not all that important though.
-CTR+Save.

Kawoosh has done all of your requests.
Download the newest archive from the 1st post.
Doubleclick will switch you into editing mode, all parts of window are now resizable (in the top of editing fields), Ctrl+N/O/S work.
Edit: now Ctrl+N/O/S also work while in the editing field. Redownload if you did already:D

A new version of the editor: 1.0.5.9 1.0.5.11. Added a good Search button and the "About" window.:D
Download the newest archive from the 1st post.
Edit: the search is currently case-sensitive. Probably there will be some more work on it
Edit2: a new version - 1.0.5.13, now the search isn't case-sensitive, and also a little display bug (for the strings which were missing in some languages, like Advanced options) has also been fixed.

Thank you for the great work. Also I have some feedback regarding Polish translation. Apparently there's some strong language in there, which is inappropriate for younger players.

I mean the following examples:
Old Woman
Stara Kurwa
I know that Polish people are known for using the K word very commonly, but still this is strong language and in this case the meaning is "an old prostitute/*****" rather than "an old woman". I'd recommend changing that to "Staruszka", which would describe as "nice old lady" :D like it was in originally localized game (there are no really alternatives for this translation, because "Stara Kobieta" sounds to serious).

Another example is:
Live damn you, Live!
Nie umieraj, kurwa, nie umieraj!
I feel that "kurwa" is much stronger than "damn". For me this translation sounds as strong as "Don't you ****ing die". This is really quite hard to translate, but I would recommend changing that to "Ani mi się waż umierać!", and without Polish characters it would be "Ani mi sie waz umierac!" (so it's like "Don't you dare dying"). Or "Ani mi sie waz teraz umierac!" which means "Don't you dare dying right now".

====
edit 1: the Polish translation has much more issues - I'll try to review it in my spare time.

====
edit 2: I have some feedback regarding language editor.
1. Feature request: please allow users to export to and import from XML format for localization in external software (i.e. Translation Workspace or Trados). Recommended XML structure:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<WAlang name="Polski" ID="9">
<string ID="01000100">
<source>Ambience</source>
<target>Otoczenie</target>
</string>
</WAlang>
2. Please note that the keyboard shortcuts set for editor are commonly used for typing special characters in Polish. See below:
Ctrl+Alt+N = ń - not (yet) available in WA character map
Ctrl+Alt+O = ó - available in WA character map
Ctrl+Alt+S = ś - not (yet) available in WA character map
Ctrl+Alt+A = ą - not (yet) available in WA character map
So please change them to Ctrl+letter. Even LeftAlt+letter is OK (RightAlt = Ctrl + LeftAlt), but not actually used in any editing software out there.
3. Please allow to use Ctrl+Shift+Left Arrow and Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow in edit fields like it is possible in Notepad, Microsoft Word and any other editing software.
4. Are you serious with the "Хуй (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D1%85%D1%83%D0%B9)" in the about box?

Oh, seems like the Ctrl+Letter shortcuts inherit the Ctrl+Alt+Letter shortcuts. I will tell Kawoosh
Also, ń, ś, ą and other unsupported extra-latin symbols automatically get replaced by n, s, a, etc respectively in the game - was my work into writing the replacement table. Same for extra-cyrillics.
3. Please allow to use Ctrl+Shift+Left Arrow and Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow in edit fields like it is possible in Notepad, Microsoft Word and any other editing software.

4. Are you serious with the "Хуй (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D1%85%D1%83%D0%B9)" in the about box?
well, don't forget who made localizer, it's all Kawoosh's work. The only work I did was testing and writing the replacement table. This thing was properly his idea, and I couldn't stop him, why would I :o it's present in all icons, but is noticeable only since some last versions with the new About box. Also I wasn't content with the editor's icon, I wanted just the book. So let him do what he does, there's nothing harmful in it

Hi all,

I'm sorry for not answering this long time, but I have had some other stuff I needed to attend to - you know, real life ;). But here I am back with a lot more feedback. First, I have some answers:
I think you should ask Alternax for this (I left the links there for a reason). The things you listed I will fix when I'm able to I have fixed now. But you can also do it yourself, don't forget
Thank you. I've also done this on my side and added a lot more fixes. It's not finished yet, but should be better anyway. If anyone wants to try it, feel free to do so by clicking this link (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21011691/Polski.WAlang). Also thank you Stepanesss for forwarding all my suggestions to Kawoosh.

2AlternaX
Don't worry, I'm aware of how this work is huge and complicated. I've reviewed a lot of segments/translation units/sentences so far and I'm only half way to the end. But let's look at the bright side - the translation is public now and we (the community) can polish it until it's perfect :)
While I'm progressing with review I'm becoming more and more afraid of some inconsistencies that will appear (same text translated in different ways in different places). This is for sure one of reasons why machine translation would help a lot. But it is impossible until Kawoosh implements import/export to/from XML (preferably) or any other popular format (even CSV or XLSX would be great help). Kawoosh, we're counting on you :)

4. Are you serious with the "Хуй" in the about box?

Well, I can live with it, so we don't need to mention it anymore...

balver, the Ctrl+Alt+Key issue has been solved too
This is great, thank you Stepanesss and Kawoosh. I confirm this works now.

And now, the promissed additional feedback for Kawoosh:

Ctrl+Home - at the moment it jumps to first translation, but it becomes annoying when working with multiline translations. Please change this to, i.e. Ctrl+Alt+Home and make Ctrl+Home moving the cursor to the start of translation.
Ctrl+End - same situation as above.
Ctrl+S - it behaves like Save As in other programs, so please change it to Ctrl+Shift+S. Also please make Ctrl+S save the current WAlang file without save as dialog.
Please add '*' indicator in title bar when any translation is changed and the file is not saved (see how this is done in Notepad++).
Please add a dialog box when closing WaLangEdit and some translations are changed and unsaved (Notepad++ is also good example). - EDIT: Oh, I haven't noticed that it's there with the new version. Thanks.
Please add new shortcut Ctrl+G (Go to) for jumping to any translation by specyifing its ID (did I mention Notepad++? :D).

That's all for now. Live long and prosper ;)

It already exists, but in a form of a mark in a white square left to the file's path on the top. Once you save it, the mark will disappear.

I have uploaded your translation to the page (http://stepsfiles.tk/wa/langpacks) and updated the installers :p Thanks.

PS: currently Kawoosh is working on a new snooper, so I'm not sure whether he's going to fix these or not

Hi! I've really updated the traslation, now it's better than before, with so many names corrected, and the puns are now adapted, because there was the rough traslation that didn't work well.

I know the game, I also helped CS to improve the italian traslation when WkLanguage didn't even exist.

There is my LangPack. If you have something to say, here I am! :cool:

Hi!

I would to say thank you for the WkLocalizer, because I really like to have a game in perfectly translated way, and I myself often translate games from english to italian. I've traslated Blocktrix, a freeware game, I've helped a crew to traslate Neverwinter Nights' last patch, I've corrected mistakes in Unreal Tournament 99, updating the translation to version 456.

I've traslated and updated W:A. For the first team, the italian game's community not only didn't accepted my help, but I was heavily insulted. It was really sad, belive me. When you love a thing, you gave all yourself to help, and all I got, I was insulted and threatend.

I'll probably continue to update this langpack, and get updated when new patches will go out, or some mistakes will be reported or discovered by me.

But one thing I ask. Really. Make this langpack totally optional.

NEVER EVER INTEGRATE THIS LANGPACK IN A PATCH!

Italian people who want to use this pack, I'll appreciate a feedback.

Let me say a phrase in Italian, to be better understood:

"Ci sono modi e modi di le cose"

I'll soon quit from Wormsmania, as it was the UNWELCOMEST and THREATENING community I've met. Sorry to say that. 4 post, and just the incredible need to escape.

So this 1.1 pack is for people who want a better game. The others, can stick to the old bad traslation.

I'm sorry, those messages are hardcoded in English and aren't currently translatable (this is due to some factors or mostly due to WA maintainers' laziness), so there's nothing that we can do at the moment. Maybe some hacks would help (since it is a WormKit module), but I'm not sure, and also Kawoosh isn't currently occupied on localizer.

I'm not sure I follow. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you asking to be credited for a translation that you did not write yourself? And you're using a cracked update installer with the stolen translation bundled into it as proof that it's your work?

Sorry if what I write offends you, but I'm just so confused. Someone please explain this to me. :confused:

I think his point is he did make the Polish translation he linked to (no idea if it's the same as the Localizer one), as his name is all over the thing, though you're right that it's bundled with a cracked EXE.

It's great timing that this thread has been bumped. For the last weeks I've been working on the Polish translation by CzAjNiK, Alternax and balver and I have to say they did a pretty job considering the amount of content they had to translate (it must be an absolutely mammoth task if you do it from scratch). However, it wasn't hard to notice the inconsistency of the translation. For some reason one half was pretty much error-free while the other seemed a bit rushed and a lot of things were translated using Google Translate or some other tool of that kind. Since I had much time on my hands, I decided to make it better and correct all the mistakes in the file.

I've corrected even the tiniest of errors, all kinds of typing, spelling mistakes, missing punctuation, also changed o to ó wherever it was needed. I've proof-read the whole thing a few times to make sure nothing escaped my notice (also it's essential to re-read the translated text and correct if need be because it's then that the text actually becomes 'Polish' [or whatever lng you translate to]. Also, I made sure that everything fits on the screen (especially in the map editor or the 'Advanced' menu where there's a lot of text and not much space for it). I obviously tried to retain the humour included in the game by translating idioms into idioms, puns into puns etc. wherever it was possible (and in some cases it wasn't), which was quite a lot of work.

As you can see (and hopefully will be able to, if you put it in the game), I put a great deal of effort into it. Pretty much every single thing has been translated. That includes all the <<GROUP>> strings as well, which were previously done using a translator. Only thing that I've left out is some names of CPU teams or Worms which would look a bit awkward if translated, but those can be counted on the fingers of one or two hands at most.

So now you can enjoy the full Polish translation of Worms Armageddon! I hope Polish users will appreciate what I've done for this wonderful, long-standing community. :) If you have any feedback, noticed anything wrong with the translation or just want to comment, please do, so that we can all make it even better ;)

there's going to be a new Beta update for both CD and Steam versions soon.
therefore it's more wise to wait for it first
