You can simply load the map in the Worms Armageddon map editor (right-click any map preview in the frontend), then left-click the preview button to switch to the preview mode and click "Save" to save it as a PNG. If you want to save it without texturing, instead right-click the preview button then click "Save" to save it as a PNG.

I think he is talking about his site. As I've understood, he wants to show the .bit preview in .png format right on the website.

I have no idea if those preview .GIFs are generated on the fly, or if they're pre-generated.
Maybe Lex knows more. ;)
You can use Annelid's "Bit Monkey" to convert from .BIT to .BMP.

http://www.blamethepixel.com/filedownload.php?id=0027BITMonkey is mostly obsolete now that you can save maps in PNG format directly in WA, textured or untextured.
If you're really looking to generate .BIT previews on the fly, you'd have to make use of LEADTools' redistributable run-time libraries which come with WA and WWP. .BIT files are actually LEADTools' proprietary .CMP format with a 40-byte header. The file format specification is here: http://worms2d.info/Monochrome_map_%28.bit,_.lev%29.
