From http://violator.atspace.com/worms/hacks.html,

When the wormnet servers and alternate servers are down,
Go to http://snoop.worms2d.info/ to find other players when the Wormnet servers are down.

If you're going to host, you can run wa.exe or wormkit.exe, and in the multi-player screen, click Direct TCP/IP (Don't type anything in the box there.) and hit "Ok" when the host screen comes up. Your friends will have to join through their web browser by typing wa://your.ip.address.here, or by putting your IP address into the box next to the Direct TCP/IP button in the internet screen in the worms frontend. (If you don't know your games address, type /url in your hosted game's chat).

Buuuut, if you want Rope Knocking you will need to host a game with extra parameters (?scheme=Pf). So, you need to launch worms from START>RUN or from a desktop shortcut, or from your web browser, so that you can add the extra information to the link.

UPDATE: Since the below commands won't work with wormkit (or at least not when I've tried), you need WormKitDS (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=46030) to be able to launch worms into hosting a Direct TCP/IP game where you can also include extra parameters such as Rope Knocking. This is because WormKitDS loads the wa.exe with the wormkit .DLL's, without needing wormkit.exe This way you can still have things like the wkColorFix.dll running combined with extra hosting parameters which require opening worms from one of the below shortcuts.

On Windows 7 the link is:
START>RUN "C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\WA.exe" /host wa://?scheme=Pf
or just: START>RUN wa://?scheme=Pf

or

Make a desktop shortcut to worms and change the path to the same thing as the longer path above. Or when you install WormKitDS, allow it to create a desktop shortcut, and edit the path to match what you see above.

If you need to use wormkit to fix your colors, and you can't launch a game like this (by putting wormkit.exe in place of wa.exe - doesn't work for me), then you'll need to make a batch file and drag the shortcut into it, or type /h2so4 when in game to fix your colors. See this thread. (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=46270)

or

From a web browser
type: wa://?scheme=Pf into the address bar.
If you want to use this method, but will have messed up colors because it's not using wormkit, wormkitds, or a batch file, and/or other color fixes don't work for you, read this (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?p=745739&posted=1#post745739).

The people joining your game will need your game's URL. Find it by typing /url in your hosted game's chat. If you change the parameters, you will have a Game ID, and the people joining will have to have it too. It will look like: wa://12.34.56.78?Scheme=Pf&ID=NWUORUCSIFEDICDC. Otherwise, if you don't change the parameters, like you're playing an RR and don't need rope knocking, the people joining the game will only need to type: wa://your.ip.address.here or wa://your.ip.address.here:yourport if you host from a different port than the default one (17011). Put the complete game URL in your web browser to join the game. Or, put the persons IP address into the box next to the Direct TCP/IP button in the internet screen in the worms frontend.

P.S. I don't think you can minimize when using the batch file. :O I can't get back into the game when I do. And I lose my taskbar sometimes.. :/

So, instead, I just hosted by putting wa://?scheme=Pf in my browser or RUN, then used the /h2so4 trick in the game to fix the colors.

P.S. someone was having trouble joining from Firefox, so he had to go into Worms>Options>Advanced and check the box next to Auto-Register Associations.

I've upped my server (http://steps.servegame.com) and I hope you enjoy it.
PS: due to a bug in Wheat Snooper and to GameID issue fix in 3.6.31.0, hosting stuff in Wheat on my server is messed so you have to use game to host, sorry

To restore the game when Explorer.exe isn't running, use Task Manager and click Worms Armageddon then the "Switch to" button.

For colours, read the beta readme file as a keyboard shortcut was added that involves the Printscreen key. It should reset/fix the games colours instantly.

Ah cool, I didn't know there was a "switch to" option, haven't used windows in a while. Shift+Pause never worked for me, not sure if I had the changing desktop at the time though.

Shift+Pause? That restores the color palettes.
