I've played thousands of games without incident and suddenly yesterday every multiplayer game i try to play over xbl freezes my xbox, requiring me to turn the power off. The lobby works fine, the map loads, but when it tries connecting to player before the 1st turn it just stays blue for about 5 seconds then freezes. It does this in the exact same spot every time. I've tried bypassing my router and connecting directly to my modem. i've checked my NAT settings and it's still open. I've tried this in both ranked and player matches. Obviously, its a network issue somewhere, but i did confirm that offline, singleplayer games work fine. Just curious if anyone else is having this issue.

Bobo, mine was doing that yesterday for some reason but today this morning it's working fine. I hope you get yours working as well soon because it was odd for myself as well for the very first time. (never got the network update patch yet so that couldn't be the problem.)

i'd think it would be easy to at least identify the source of the issue... Bill says T17 hasnt changed anything so i see 2 basic options;
1) Microsoft changed something about the way xboxes connect for all games, and didn't predict the subtle impact it would have on Worms.
2) My wife has paid someone to sabotage the servers in hopes that she can enjoy my man love all weekend long.

I wish i had a more accurate perepective on who can play and who can't... there may be a clue there if its a region issue...

Nah, Demonware is responsible for the network coding, or outsourcing, or something like that. The Worms Open Warfare 2 servers were also hosted by the publishers (THQ) who eventually shut them down, too :(

I have the same problems. I cannot connect to any other player, insrtead my Xbox freezes and has to be shut down manually.

It doesn't matter who hosts the game or which mode we play. We can pick a map, the game starts, but as soon as the first round begins, my xbox freezes.

The strange thing about it is that I got an update for worms 2: Armagaddon, that my mates did not get. We were wondering why I got an update and they didn't.Anyway, we can't play online any more, since my Xbopx freezes, while my two mates can still play against each other.

We are asking everyone we know to try and get to the bottom of this. Sometimes it feels like W2A XBLA just can't catch a break.

Yup this is the same thing that's happening to me also. I logged in to play with my friends and had to get an update that they didn't get and then when I tried to join a game with them my Xbox froze after waiting for players for about a minute. I tried an Xbox live ranked quick match afterwards and was able to play one game. Now for the past two days I've tried and it won't let me play any more live games.

When I join a random quick match live game I see the game start, worms load and everything then it will sit there and say waiting for other players. After about a minute it will change and let me play but only for a few seconds before saying the session has been abandoned or something like that. One guy I played sent me a nasty message saying I froze his Xbox. The odd thing is that if I try to play with my friends again my Xbox will always simply freeze on me and never get to the session has been abandoned stage.

I have deleted and re-installed both the game and the battle pack add on. I cleared my system cache then downloaded the update for Worms, but still no luck being able to play a live game. The campaign and local quick games work perfectly fine as well as all my other Xbox live games.

just a small note........reading your posts few people mention an update and having thought about it, saturday i did contact xbl twitter........after the heavy weapon demo would not play (it was on offer on dashboard&was also freezing at title screen/i had previously downloaded this title months before) they told me to clear my cache........i did this and the demo worked fine...........but thinking about it it was the day after when i had the worms update when all this problem started for me.........just thought id let yous know however insignificant.

i don't know the exact number but let's say our xboxes hold cache space for 7 updates. if they made it unlimited then our hard drives would fill up with updates considering just about every game has at least 1 patch after release. so anyways lets say Dead Rising was your first game that needed an update, when you go to play your 8th game that has an update required, your oldest (or maybe least played, not sure) update for Dead Rising is replaced with the new one... so if later you go back to play Dead Rising, you will have to download that update again because it had been replaced

so if you take a break from worms for a while, or just play a lot of games that need updates in between games of worms... you may need to re-download the update... if u cleared your cache for any reason u would also need to re-download it

this is what's happening 99% of the time someone gets a seemingly random update that others don't get, but because people are suddenly having issues with worms, they're questioning every little thing that has changed... i did not get an update and i'm still plagued with this problem

while were on the topic of the ridicolous networking of worms......ive just tried to get in about 10 games and finally got one on player after many tries at ranked (ive started exiting from start menu when i see blue bar rather than waiting for xbox freeze when i know its going to happen) so i played this 1 guy in player and half way thru i got the 'this session is no longer available' message as if i lost connection or it dropped out for a second.......yet the worms can be seen in background as if game is still running

but has anybody been getting this problem too? i changed my broadband company bout 2 months ago so when it first started happening i thought it might be a stability issue.......but now im not so sure maybe its linked with this new problem? i know ive played for months previous with this never happpening (unless someone drops from game) but this seems more frequent and slightly different.....as if the worms are still ok but the game just got dropped

think i might buy the first version soon just for something to play..........i also think team 17 should do the right thing if they cant work out whats happening by now and take this game down off marketplace to save people buying this broken game cos if i bought it like this with the 'no refunds will be given' tag as on all xbl games id be contacting trading standards!

ok just a note cos i know they must be reading this scratching their heads drinking lots of coffee cola and eating bakewell tarts in the sunny yorkshire office counting their iphone cash in this good for game sales recession .......had a few games today that went ok, but it is still doing it..but of note is that one guy i keep coming up against called mr messi 01 over the last few days out of the 5 or six good games ive had (out of trying maybe 50-60) 3 of them have been with him, seems im getting no problems when i pair this guy.

kind of a long shot... but i remember on the old PC Worms Armageddon there were issues sometimes with synchronization, usually if people had different versions of the .exe or if their custom maps and schemes just didn't jibe, but i remember daylight savings time screwing up peoples pc clocks so that sometimes people from different regions were not able to connect properly.

Like uncomm said, it's suspect that he and that other guy seem to be consistently compatible, just like it's suspect that some people (like me) freeze up 99% of the time while some freeze 50% or 5%. Maybe it's region... maybe it's something ISPs have changed recently in some areas but not others...

This freezing issue is really weird, it seems some people are actually ok and others are not. We were holding back with the update going live until this was sorted, but I'm going to push for it to go live asap then we can take another reading on what's going on.

Yea! so you saying your gonna push the network patch for 3/4 player matches to go live with the patch update and fix this freezing issue later? Sounds good to me I really hardly freeze only sometimes so not big deal for me I can deal with the occasional freeze up.

As far as we can tell, the freezing issue seems to be outside our influence so we want to push the update and see what happens.

Thanks for the info Fellsil3nt, I will pass this on to people who know what they are talking about as this goes over my head. All I know is that we don't host the servers here and we haven't put an update out yet and that it's not affecting every single person who plays worms, so we are at a loss as to what we can do here at Team17 apart from nag Microsoft for answers, so far no joy.

Yea! Yea!! Yeah!!! Put out the "Patch and DLC!" I'm only freezing occasionally and some of my friends but it isn't constantly happening just sometimes. But if you do figure this problem out make sure get it fixed asap also. But nt big deal to hold important things back like the patch and dlc for this minor problem that could get easly be fixed. Don't wait though Bill/T17 as long as you did for the 3/4 player matches to work.

worms is the only game that i have played almost every day for months even after getting all of the achievements... if i rent a game or buy a game that ends up sucking, i have always been able to play a few games of worms to at least have fun during the course of my day...

to hear you refer to my sudden inability to play a single game against a human opponent as a "minor problem that could get easly be fixed" really bums me out. i guess i'm not that optimistic anymore. i would love all of the new features of the dlc, and i'm sure i'll buy all 4 but i need the game to work for me first.

i've noticed that if i can connect to a particular person for one game, it seems like i can always connect to that particular person if i happen to join their game again later... and it works in the opposite way also... if i freeze up with a particular person, it will always freeze up with that person. it's not regional because i connected with a guy from france yesterday, but freeze with people in my same state. for whatever reason, only about 1 in 20 people will actually let me connect and play the game... so frustrating!

Bobo, I feel your pain and everything dude. But I well have to say I've been playing this game more then months try a half a year and with this nasty networking issue needs to be addressed first because it work's fine only occassionally messed up and freezes not alot but we need get this 3/4 networking issue fixed first then DLC. Then this freezing thing going on but i understand I've waited more then year half for 3/4 player matches get fixed. Let's get that done first.

You misunderstand... i bought the game when it first came out also... my point was that i still play it every day for months and months after i got all the achievements. that's why it especially sucks that everything worked perfect for me since the game came out until this freezing started last week

i don't care about 3/4 player networking issue... i just want it to work for 1 person first!!! it might only freeze once in a while for u, but some people can't play the game at all. i'm guessing you play the same people frequently in player matches... i've always enjoyed the random competition of 1v1 ranked matches.

...and the extra crappy part is that every time i try to join a ranked game and it freezes, it counts as 2 losses apparently and my TrueSkill rank has gone from around 40th to 700th... I've been trying to stick to player matches until this issue gets sorted, but nobody ever plays player matches so i always get desperate and try ranked...

dlc is cool and all but i was already playing every day... i'd be happy if it just went back to normal and never released another pack of dlc. dlc is like sprinkles on the ice cream cone... you might be ok just having a handful of sprinkles, but i want my ice cream cone first

I wonder if it's related to certain hardware or firmware. I know around the time this started happening there was a Kinect update, wonder if it's related to that? Thanks for the extra info Bobo especially the part where you can allways play with no problems with certain people.

i tried the simplest solution on my end of just unplugging my kinect sensor in case there was some weird miscommunication with people who didn't have kinect, but to no avail... and i was going to try and delete any kinect related updates or software but couldn't actually find anything deletable... unless it's part of the cached updates, but i deleted my cache as well.

still freezing.

yes its got to be that kinect update bill! the last one when it came out in november rendered the game unplayable when i was using certain free gamerpics (the supermeatboy one) the game used to be ok on your move then during opponents you had to watch him in slow motion......ask mark baldwin about it bill he will remember our emails of about 20!, i bought new xbox and used four new gamertags to work out what it was (and still mirosoft didnt want to know&never replied me) you reallly need to make them understand that this will be it and help you work a fix for the problem..........im going to try it with usual standard clothes on my avatar or a few variations later see if that helps as i remember mark saying it renders the avatars before play....

@Bobo, I understand bud I also play tons I don't even have full achievements unlocked yet and still enjoying what gametypes im playing. But I honestly don't know why you are freezing so much since I only freeze only sometimes I play alot of people in ranked fort matches (Diff people). I say since the 3/4 player network is ready to go just put it out might even fix the freezing issue wouldn't that be nice.

@Bill, well since the kinect update did come out could be that. I don't have kinect so I didn't need the update and maybe everyone else who is having this major issue that has kinect with the ms update for it, i got none and im playing pretty fine.

Right, this is very strange. Microsoft say the title update went live on the 21st of June. However we've checked on our retail XBOX and we don't have the update. It could be possible that the update has only gone live in some regions which would kind of make sense re Freezing issue.

So, can I ask that you check your version of Worms. The easiest way to tell if yours has updated is to check the credits screen. The updated version has DLC credits in there.

Did you recently delete and redownload? Just wondering if there is something we can do to force the update.

i also saw "DLC Team" listed in the credits, and i've deleted and downloaded both the full game and my cache several times

The freezing is hopefully just incompatible versions. We've told Microsoft this info and hopefully they can do something about that. All I can suggest for now is that you spread the word.

well remember when i had problems with 'heavy weapon' demo the day before i got worms problems , xbox support on twitter told me to clear cache so i did and it fixed it but thats probs when my worms updated.....then when i got worms problems i did everything recover gamertag format hdd the lot!

and guess what i just found my new best friend in the pro lobby! my only working player mr messy ha and it worked perfect! this time i added him to friends so ill ask him shortly in a text if he has the update too... will get back

just so i'm clear... you're saying Title Update 2 went live on the 21st of June, at least for some people, and if i see dlc credits i have that updated version. I can understand that... i've seen some wonky business go down with updates on other games. Wouldn't the Battle Pack DLC/Title Update 1 have included credits for the DLC team on that? or i guess the TU went live before the dlc so maybe not.

Just joined the forum to post some of my experiences. I know that some of this has been covered but wanted to share anyway.

Me and a couple of my close friends have been playing worms for quite some time, and recently we've persuaded some other friends to purchase the game too (more on those friends in a minute)

The three of us that have ALWAYS been able to play together (two of us have the battlepack, one doesnt) can play once we are in the lobby, but get
ting into the lobby requires the following ritual 99.9% of the time:

The Party Leader sends out a party invite. Player B gets in, but game is no longer available for player C on original invite.

Player B sends invite to player C and it will let them in.


What we have noticed is the friends that have recently downloaded the game (say over the last three weeks) can join the lobby, but will drop them from the game immediately once it starts--- and if playing a one vs. one with any of them, the game will freeze.

I want to say that the three people who have downloaded the game recently, freeze when they play each other too.

I guess what i dont want to do is re-download the game and find that its no longer playable with the original group of friends- but we'd like to play with the new guys too.

Im going to check the credits tonight.

So to be clear. If you can see DLC credits it means you have the very latest update. Our guess is that you can only play games with other people who have the same version of the game as you.


Maybe put a release version number somewhere on the title screen for the next version? :p ;)

re update..... delete game and pack and reinstall.........then try with someone you know has done same......if that doesnt work clear cache&game and reinstall.........then spread the word so the minority is peeps withOUT the update then we should be :cool:

id just registered to pretty much mirror the above but heres a few details.

i was having this issue with friends of mine who werent and could all play together. Seemed that when we all cleared our cache i was the only one to get a download 4mb update prompt, some were getting a 2mb update prompt and others automatically updated without a second window saying how big it was. So... I asked them to delete worms 2, the battle pack, clear their cache (just incase) and then download the game and pack again from the marketplace.

Wierdly, one of my friends noted that in the marketplace section after he started to download Worms 2 the battlepack addon didnt appear in the extras, only the trial, full game and theme UNTIL the download said it was complete and then the add-on appeared on the extras panel for him to redownload. When they relaunched the game all of them said it came up with a 4mb update prompt and now we can all play together again. Hope that helps :)

Oh that's good news to know! So where do I goto to delete my cache or whatever? Bill so the update went out already? But only some of us recieved the update patch because I didn't get a patch update.

VERIFIED. Clear Cache first. Go to Memory, Click Y on hard drive.. select clear cache. (not sure if you have to do this but i did) Reload worms. Download update.

Then, go to dashboard and games- delete worms.

Redownload. Get 4 mb update. Problem solved.

Oh that's good news to know! So where do I goto to delete my cache or whatever?

that's great that we've figured out how to fix the problem, but politely asking every stranger who freezes up my xbox to delete their game and redownload it is not going very well... microsoft needs to find a way to force the update again for everyone

Well as far as of now. I deleted worms and battle pack / deleted my cache. I got a update for 4MB DL. I haven't tryed 3/4 player matches as of yet but I did play a 1v1 ranked fort worked well didn't freeze. MS needs resend the update out though everyone is not gonna listen and reinstall the game/battle pack. I well see and try if i can getta 3/4 player match started today if my buddies who norm play 3/4 player matches with and let you know asap.

Anyone else coming to these problems I reinstalled game and battlepack delete my cache. then restart my Xbox, now its playing okay but sometimes still freezing and looses connection it'll say, it also says sometimes "Error networking" when searching. Please tell me what's going on if some of you are having the same issues. Thanks

its because most people dont have it yet, should be obvious youve all said it yourselves and me too above.......im playing 4 player with friends who all reinstalled you just have to wait for everyone to get it and tell who you can.......put it on your bio or some thing and tell them to read it (and instead of letting your xbox freeze just press start on the blue loading screen when you know its happening and back out

the update did nothing for the invites tho they still dont get you in a game............its still difficult to get the fourth player in tho not impossible with a bit of messing about, and it still does that glitch where if opponent goes invisible or uses a magnet you see a completley different move than they did until it cycles the next move and you see what really happened.

Ok cool yeah i sent everyone a message to all friends this morning to re install worms / re install battle pack I also said to delete cache from the HDD and restart your xbox. That's it. Hope to see a 3/4 player match if everyone is online tonight :).

In Poland the same problem. Team17 - You must put on server new update, maybe the same update before this latest. 3 weeks users can't play online.
BillT17 - when Team17 release a new update on server, fixed this bug?
In my opinion T17 must get us automatic - previous update as soon as possible, and in future make good next update.

@uncomn, I tryed today everyone delete game battle pack and deleted they're cache everything. We all have the thing in credit saying "DLC Team" and still can't get fourth guy in. My friend on my friends list who plays worms got MS to get into his xbox and check everything delete his profile set new one and looking into his whole xbox etc. and they say they can't seems what is happening is on Team17 part on this. My friend got an email from the head lead designer of Worms 2 Armageddon XBLA said about that re-installing game and battle pack and seeing the "DLC Team" the update worked but didn't but he said they're looking into it! So right now he toled me if everyone sends Team17 an email addressing this update not working and the problem with the multiplayer and freezing he also said lead designer said problem comes to push and shove they well have to get a new hosting network for the game to run things more flawless and less lag of what they have now! Everyone needs send email to: support@Team17.com My friend said in a week something is gonna happen more emails they receieve the less we have to wait and the more they work into getting more poeple on this job to get it fixed in couple of days EMAIL NOW! Well guess I am not sure about this patch seems alot of people join like. but I'm not sure if it actually working because some people don't maybe don't have the update its freezing because my friend didn't have it and it would say "Waiting for other players" and it would freeze (because he didn't have the update), but since he got the new patch it didn't freeze.... but certain people i know that does have the update he installed it and he couldn't join why is that?

I was having trouble playing with my friend and live matches. I had my friend check his credits and sure enough there was no DLC in there. Next I he cleared his cache, deleted the game and battle pack then re-installed everything. After getting an update to log in he now has DLC showing in his credits screen. Yay!, we tried to play a private game together and it finally worked again. :)

My game didn't change so I'm sure I can't play on Xbox live random matches but oh well at least I can finally play with my friends again. There is definitely something wrong here. Shouldn't there be a way to force everybody to update again? Maybe release a pseudo update or something? Oh well at least this works to play with your friends again.

@mua, yeah 3/4 player matches work with people who have the update. need force it live though!!!! :)

I experience the freezing game only once or thrice before but when I played with someone yesterday and he said he encounter freezing problem that I thought he was just disconnected or quitted because the only thing that appeared to my screen is this: "the game is no longer available" and then he told told me that I should reinstall the game because my game is outdated and I did but after I reinstalled it and updated the game, I experience the freezing problem every single online match that I played which is so frustrating. Now I couldn't play a good game because every time I am about to start a match it keeps on freezing which doesn't happen to me before when I have not installed the new update

If you went into GAME shop and bought a game. Then you take it home to play it and most of the game doesnt work.
You would want it fixed fast or a refund at least.

Instead, they tell you to go away and play your half-working game for a whole year while they copy and paste 4 new DLC packs across multiple games and THEN maybe they might fix the game you bought. In the meantime NO you cannot have a refund.

The best part is, NEW CUSTOMERS keep coming in to the shop and buying the game but the Shop or the Developers dont tell them that the game is broken, they just smile and take your money.
Now the new customers have bought a broken game and cant get a refund. while the existing fans of the game wait a year to play a game they bought in 2009

Don't know about you but outwith some connectivity problems for the past 11 months (which happens in AAA titles that cost 40 quid may I remind you never mind 800 points) it has been fine, functioning as advertised. Its not Microsofts fault? Tell me, "idiot", who controls the distribution of updates for titles? Yes, Microsoft. The fact that only some people are recieving the update is their fault, Team 17 are doing what they can; which I imagine is surprisingly little considering Microsoft are the kind of company that have the whole "bigger fish to fry" attitude.

The biggest AAA title with fail connectivity I can think of was Gears of War 2, took Epic about 5 title updates to get it working at an acceptable level, which took about a year an a half. How about the multiple times Live has been down for maintainence? That count? Aye, they dropped the ball it bit but fact of the matter is you're completely ignoring the fact that most titles do.

I'm beginning to agree, Barlett, it seems he has some form of vendetta and won't be satisfied until someone from T17 comes up, kisses his **** and gives him his fiver back.
