View Full Version : Spacebar not always responding ingame

Hello everyone,

since today, I have this very annoying problem with the spacebar while playing WA. While it works normally while writing and doing anything else, in game I find its presses occasionally being ignored - not a good thing while roping around using it.

I know the hotkey can be changed, but I'm already very accustomed to using space (have been playing for a few weeks) and would not easily want to change the key. Besides, I'm very interested in finding out what could cause such a problem.

And once more for the record - this problem only arises IN GAME.

Play around with this tool a bit and see how many keys your keyboard allows you to press simultaneously, paying particular attention to the arrow keys and spacebar:

This is the most likely cause of your woes.

Thanks a lot, it seems you're right.

Played around with the tool and noticed that while pressing the up and left arrow keys the space is irresponsive :/ Now all I have to do is to adapt to it.

No, you should instead get a keyboard with N-key rollover or 6-key rollover! Adapting to bad keyboards ruins your roping skill later on. I would know.

An amazing amount of easily-digestable information about mechanical keyboard switches and other keyboard hardware specifics, including suggested keyboards (all of which do not suffer from 3-key lock), is located in the first few posts of this thread: http://www.overclock.net/keyboards/491752-mechanical-keyboard-guide.html

I would personally recommend the recently-released "Overclock.net Edition Ducky DK9008" keyboard if you want Cherry MX Blue or Brown switches (explained in the above link). If you plan on doing a lot of sensitive tapping (which you will if you plan to get really good at roping), choosing brown switches would probably be better than blue due to the information in the following quote.Cherry MX Blue switches are the best cherry switch for typing. The tactile bump can easily be felt, and the resistance is similar to your average keyboard.

Although many people find them just fine for gaming, some don't like the fact that the release point is above the actuation point. This can cause some trouble with double-tapping. This is usually the case with someone who has experienced other mechanical switches before hand.I apologize beforehand for the information overload.

Check this list of keyboards that have been confirmed to lock out when (at least) the four cursor buttons and the space bar are pressed simultaneously.

Also, post your keyboard model in that thread!

Edit:
If you have a PS/2 keyboard plugged into a USB adapter, try using it natively on the PS/2. (That is, if you have that port and if you don't need any USB-exclusive functions.)
Browsing the post that Lex linked, I saw several models that were limited to a few keys on USB, but more or n-key with PS/2.

The USB limit actually only kicks in at 6 keys. For Worms, that should be plenty, since in theory, it only ever makes sense to press 5 keys at the same time. Very very rarely, at that.

I apologize beforehand for the information overload.

Approved for all audiences!
