Is there WINE for Windows 7 x64 and can it run W:A?

Got tired of virtual computers, especially since the latest versions of VMware and VirtualBox seem to crap themselves even more than the previous versions.

Now, regardless of the resources you dedicate to them (6 Core i7 logical cores out of 8, 4GB of RAM out of 12) they still don't perform as the host system. They deliver laggy output and present numerous issues.

VMware's still decent for schemes that do not involve fast roping, but I'm willing to try something new.

I've heard the Linux users are using WINE to play W:A. I understand it doesn't offer support for Wormkit (or at least I think it doesn't), but I'd be interested to see how it performs on Windows.

So, does anyone know, is there WINE for Windows 7 x64?
And if there is, I'd appreciate a quick guide on how to set it up.

See http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOnWindows.
(The short answer is "no".)

Thanks! I've read a couple of paragraphs... I understand.

So currently there is no solution to running W:A windowed other than running it on a virtual computer?

That's correct.

You could always try to install CoLinux (http://www.colinux.org/) or andLinux (http://www.andlinux.org/) and then try to install Wine. There are no warranties that it will work, but still...

Thanks for the suggestions.

Tried colinux- didn't get too far with it. andLinux works only on 32-bit versions of Windows.

What problems do you have when running W:A at all?

When I run it directly on the host system, the game works flawlessly.

But there's a couple or more of inconveniences:
1. I can't use the second screen (well, I can, but just for monitoring and the resolution and colors get screwed);
2. minimizing and maximizing reinitializes all devices (wakes up all my external drives);
3. I can't do something else (like browsing) while watching other players having their turns.

2. minimizing and maximizing reinitializes all devices (wakes up all my external drives);That's odd. Perhaps it's caused by 3rd-party software?

That's what I thought of too, but then I reduced the number of running applications and services to a minimum and it's still the same.

Is there any way to introduce the option to run W:A windowed in the forthcoming update(s) or is it bound to be like this forever ?

It'll be like that until 4.0.

I had a hunch you'd say that, still, better than never. :D

ProjectX can already do so (with wrapping Direct3D?), but there's no public version which includes that.
