Hello,

I am unable to connect to Worms Net at my college due to the port blocking stuff. Usually I get around this by using Hotspot shield, which is a VPN. Every time I connect to Worms Net using Hotspot shield, I am disconnected after a few seconds with the reason "Hotspot shield". I am unsure why this would be a reason to auto-disconnect a user from the network, as I know dozens of students who use this to connect to games on campus.

Please help? Is there another free VPN/proxy service I can use? I am aware that there is a proxy option in the new advanced options menu but I do not have a good free server to use other than Hotspot shield.

I assume this is because people could use it to disguise their identity and therefore spam without fear of being caught - so to play it safe, a blanket ban is put in place. This happens on many IRC networks.

Hotspot Shield, like any other proxy, can be (and has been) used by flooders/griefers to get around bans and wreak more havoc. Sorry, but at the moment I don't know of a way to help you with this.

Ah, that does make a lot of sense. I'll see if the network staff here are up to helping me out, though in the past they have been unresponsive to these types of requests :(

I would like to say, though, thank you for the quick response. Also, thank you for keeping this game alive and running, I absolutely love it.

FYI, WormNet uses ports 6667 (the same as IRC) and 80 (the same as HTTP - this one is probably unblocked if you can access the web). Once you're in a game, port 17011 is used to connect to the host, though it can be changed at the host's will (and has to be for tools that host many games at once, eg WormNAT2 and HostingBuddy). It's most likely to be 6667 that's the issue, as IRC is normally a protocol used for online chat.
