View Full Version : Grenade Power

This game is pretty good. However a major oversight with the weapons has occurred.

It seems that when you get to 20% on the power meter using the grenade, it's as if you had it on 100% power. Less than 5% and the grenade goes nowhere. Slightly more and the grenade goes about 5 times the distance. This makes accuracy extremely awful. Because the grenade throw is so powerful I am REQUIRED to aim at walls to absorb the throw energy.

There is never a reason to let the power meter exceed 40% of the bar. Why has this been done?

Plus, how is it that a grenade landing about 5 worm jumps away from mine does 26 damage? The game pretty much indicates that accuracy is not necessary as the area of effect damage is so wide.

That sounds awful.

By the way, did you ever extensively play any of the W2 engine games? (Worms 2, Worms Armageddon, Worms World Party)

Frankly, I find the power bar and strenght in this game is greater than ever before. Instead of being completely impossible, you can hit Worms at the other side of the map, even with contrary wind. Other than in Reloaded, it's not impossible to shoot worms high way up on a vertical map. This makes for fairer games.
Additionally, my accuracy is better than ever, especially my grenade shots. Playing online I've also seen much more people whose aim is amazing than in recent games. You are probably not used to it yet.

Explosions are indeed big, but not as big as you described.
Try this: stand on a even ground, drop a grenade to your feet, and jump once. That distance will deal you a damage of 23 points. Jump two times and you won't be hurt at all. It really isn't much of a problem and aiming is still required.

Well the grenade power is not to my liking. It just feels wrong. The situation where the grenade did 26 damage was like this where the O is the grenade and the rest is obvious. The grenade was resting at height and you think (oh it won't do any damage, but it does 26 which is a lot.) There are other cases of this. A stick of dynamite 2 jumps away will do around 50 damage and if it's directly on top of the worm do 65. Not great relative damage.

Plus I've played all the previous games (apart from Worms 1) and whilst I prefer this in terms of options and the fact it's portable, one can't get away from the feeling that Team 17 rushed this out like all their other games in the last few years.

To sum this up, you played all of the games and don't like how the power works in Battle Islands compared to preview games. Just a matter of preference.

No it's not a matter of preference, because It's near impossible to get the grenade dip you need for accurate throws. Essentially the grenade only travels in a straight line when it SHOULD travel in an arc so you can choose where it settles, but the choice to overpower it has eliminated it's usage in this way. It's only useful for throwing into chasms.
