Hi,
I have just dug out my old WA game (version 1.0.0.1) and after downloading the updates have it playing fine on my laptop (XP).
The only problem I have is the drive is extremely loud so I decided to follow the advice given here: http://worms2d.info/Running_WA_without_the_CD

Seeing as I have version 1 I downloaded CloneCD to make an image.
How long does this usually take? After 2 hrs it was showing only 1.5% progress!
Is this normal? Will it speed up or am I going to have to leave it alone for 4 days?

Also, once done can I update it again to v3.6.31.0 again?

Any help/advice appreciated.

Cheers

That's definitely not normal.
It shouldn't take much longer than manually copying all of the contents from the CD.

Is your disk scratched or dirty in some areas?

If you're using any version of Windows, I suggest using ISO Recorder (http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm), which is a small and efficient Windows freeware tool which creates ISO files correctly.

If the ISO creation is laggy with ISO Recorder, then your drive or CD aren't working properly.

P.S. Make sure you get the right version of ISO Recorder. If you're using Vista or 7, that would be version 3.1.

Thanks for the replies.
After a bit of searching on Google I decided it was the drive having trouble reading the errors created by SafeDisc. I tried it on another computer and it worked fine.

Have now got it updated and working without the disc. :D

Cheers.

The game, after the latest update, doesn't use Safedisc anymore. How did you get it running without a disc?

The game I have on disc uses SafeDisc. As far as I can understand this throws read errors up when trying to copy it. Some drives are better than coping with these than others. Mine is obviously rubbish!
I used another PC with a drive that could read these errors better.
Used CloneCD to make an image, then Alcohol 52% to mount the image.

Hope this clears things?

Yes, the disc it self has Safe disc on it but the game it self doesn't utilize or read the Safe Disc data on the disc. Thanks for clearing up how you play without the disc :)
