Hi.
I'm new on the forum and I don't mean to bother, but I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer to my problem, so I've decided to try registering and asking straight on. Sorry if I accidentally copied a thread or I'm adressing a known issue (English isn't my first language and I'm not a PC wiz, so it's possible I misunderstood info already given in readme files etc.).
Anyways, I have original WA version (bought way back when WA was premiered in my country, which is Poland) and every now and then I like to get back to it. But since I have Vista, I searched the net to find a way to launch it on the system. I found notes on the patch (3.6.31.0) so I downloaded it, installed WA then run the patch. To an extend it worked: WA was launched, however another problem occurred: the game seem to freeze in the main menu. I can't really select single player, multiplayer etc. "Mouse" doesn't work, which the keyboard does seem to give some response as there are sound familiar to selecting game type, however the game itself doesn't go anywhere from the main menu.
I already tried re-installing WA but it didn't change a thing.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance.

So, after the intro plays, you see the main menu with the 4 large buttons, but the game is visually frozen (no falling stars in the background, etc.)?

If you move your mouse around, do you hear clicking sounds?

You could try the various SlowFrontendWorkaround registry tweaks (which you can find under your game directory, in the Tweaks subdirectory).

Yes, that's pretty much it... the stars do fall for a second or so before the whole thing stops. After I posted the thread, I tried entering the game a few times and as I click (despite the fact I have no idea what I'm actually clicking x_x) I've managed to get to what I believe is the screen with team selection etc., however at this point it's all black, the only indication that allows me to think it's the screen before the game starts are to bars, one that is more or less in a place where you choose game type (intermediate and so on, if I recall the names correctly) and the other is above, which I forgot what it did.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give the tweaks a shoot and see what that does.

Thank you, CyberShadow, I seem to get the right tweak on the first try ;)
Well, the stars now fall incredibly fast in the back, but the game works, so it's no biggie and even if I can't fix that, I'm good :)
So thanks for the advice, it really helped.
Take care and Merry Christmas ;)
