View Full Version : W:A works fine... until I try to start a game.

So, I finally gave up on trying to make WWP work on my laptop (actually, it worked fine, but nothing I did could make the psychedelic colors go away ), so I thought I'd give W:A a try. After installing, the colors looked normal, so I started a game. But the loading icon thing never came up, and the screen just stayed black. The only way to get out is to ctrl+alt+delete. This happens every single time. I can do anything on the menus, change settings, even create a team, but I cannot join any type of game. Also, trying to join a network game results in a "fatal error".

-==========-

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

I've downloaded the newest update, the only difference I noticed were the 3D logos in the intro. (same thing happens)

I'm using a US copy of the game (it's a real CD version), so the website says I don't need the patch.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of graphic card I have, but I'm pretty damn sure it's not that Intel Integrated whatchamacallit that prevents the usage of this game.

I found something called "AMD M860 with ATI Mobility Radeon 4100", I don't know if that's my graphic card, but there you go.

Have you tried setting a lower resolution in the options screen?

Also, please describe the error you're getting when trying to join network games in more detail.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest Beta Update (link in CyberShadow's signature)?
Note: the Beta Update is different from the patch.

I'm pretty sure I've tried that. I'll try again and get back to you.

Also, I'm pretty sure you knew this, but I meant a game on the Wormnet when I said network game, and I meant I can't even connect to it.. Anyway, after trying to connect to the Wormnet, all it does it sit there for a while and then it gives me a dialog box saying something along the lines of "Fatal error, disconnecting..."

Just to make it clear: you have the latest (3.6.31.0) update, right? You can see your version by hoving the mouse cursor above the logo in the main menu.

... Damn it. It says V3.00. I did download an update, though. Maybe I got an older one by accident. I'll download this one and post back soon.

I think I may gave found the problem. During installation of this update, an error message comes up that says,

"Error opening file for writing:

c:\team17\worms armageddon\wa.exe

Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file."

Retrying makes the same error come up.

Did you get an UAC prompt when running the update? If not, try explicitly running it "as administrator".

If that doesn't help, check if you don't have a WA.exe running in the background (or just try rebooting).

IT WORKS! :D

Okay, so I completely removed everything that had to do with Worms from my computer and did a fresh install of the game and then the 3.6.31.0 update, and had no errors this time. It seems to work perfectly now! Thanks for all your help CyberShadow, you really have no idea how happy this makes me. I can finally play Worms again!

Yay. Welcome to the enlightenment, as they say. (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?p=733924#post733924)

The game actually works wonderfully on my laptop with Intel graphics now too, even though, as you say, it used to be the worst combination.
