View Full Version : Map editor interface looks a bit strange (3.6.30.0)

(Image removed. The image was the map editor interface in 3.6.30.0., without slider.)
I know this is because of returning of the "generate" button. But this gives me a strange feeling when I see the large vacant space to the left of the reseed button.
I think it would be better if the buttons are designed in this way:
First line : | Load | Save | Delete | Generate |
Second line : | the dropdown menu | Reseed |
All 5 buttons would be narrower, but it doesn't matter, does it?
I think this could also bring the "Island templates" and "Cavern templates" labels back again.

The free space is reserved for an upcoming feature.

OK, I will wait. But if I don't see the feature in the next Beta, well...

The very next Beta will likely be a bugfix release to fix bugs found in 3.6.30.0. We'll probably finish and release a few currently unfinished features in the Beta after that.

then....you will fire CS and DC??
Nooooo please dont (?)
Oh, sorry I forgot they do this because they want to, not because they must
If you want good looking graphics and menus go buy Worms reloaded....if you want efficient menus with old style graphics stay in WA...
OP, are you serious? Who cares about some vacant space on the map editor screen? That's ridiculous. Similar situations can be found almost anywhere in almost every application ever.
Why aren't you complaining about the vacant space above the girder count because its box is circular and doesn't fit that whole spot? Are you sure you're sane? Also, why am I flipping out on you? These questions aren't worth answering. Never mind.
I think I'll stop playing Worms because of this... Gimme back my 0.05€ I spent on downloading this piece of crap! :D

Well... I didn't say anything. Sorry if it looks too offensive.
Aw, I almost thought this was Explorers sense of humor finally emerging

You can call it humor; I don't care mind.
I just blame myself for being hypocritical, in this thread (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?p=724852#post724852). (Thank to Extremist2)

(bump)
Finally (in 3.6.31.0) it's a slider of map complexity. I thought it would be something else.
Anyway, I believe that the slider could be replaced with a cycling button, with 6 icons.
33070
simplest (always 20%)
simple (20-60%)
moderate (40-80%)
complex (60-100%)
most complex (default, always 100%)
random (20-100%)
Icons are drawn by myself, thanks to Inkscape's sculpting feature (tweak tool).
Of course, this is merely my suggestion. Anyone can object me.

I think it works better as a slider, but the icons do give you an idea of what you can expect if you're new to the feature.

How about a slider plus an icon next to it? :D
It would be difficult to work out how to represent the varying ranges one can set in a single icon. I mean, it would be silly to show the "random" icon if you set it to 19-21% for instance. There's also the problem of the possibility of lack of room, but I haven't looked at it with that in mind recently.
I have. There's no room. And if there is, there are much better things to use it for. :p

Did you mean room?
No offense, but:

(Image of suggested UI - not present in any version of WA.)
(Reduced space between thumbnails of map templates, added the caption to the left, and halved the length of the complexity slider)
Also, for the icon, WA would just need to compute the average "roughness" of the terrain and then display the corresponding icon. Put the "random" icon away - I made that only for non-slider use.
No offense, but my last statement stands.
This graphical representation just seems too approximate to be of high value to the sort of players whom the feature was implemented for. Far from everyone today even plays the game on random maps with any regularity, much less cares about their exact squiggliness. Those who do will likely be able to figure things out from the slider itself, its help text at the bottom and the actual effect it has on the maps they generate. I think many of those will agree with me in that we'd rather see the UI space used for, I don't know, something with which to adjust the size of the random maps being generated? :p

Woah, yeah, that'd be pretty awesome.

Tried adding KRD's idea, and there would be a little space for another. ;)
A drop-down, a slider, or something could be there.

Oh, I like this! :D
This should be a combo box, which allows to directly enter custom values (with an error message when they're not divisible by 8 or too low), but also has some pre-sets in the pulldown menu for some values (i.e. combinations of multiples of the default screen).

Speaking of variable map sizes, there is a UI limitation I guess you knew already:
No scroll-bars in the main editing field.
And I don't think the scroll-bars could be added without re-designing the whole UI. That is, the variable-sized maps would be uneasy inconvenient to edit in WA, or maybe un-editable at all.
This is only my assumption. (However the map editor UI in Worms 2 does have scrollbars, which is fact.)

The complexity slider represents the complex appearance of that map editor :P It is nice feature wise though and complexity isn't always a bad thing when it's well organized like in your demo.

My demo? You mean which one?
(with icon or without icon?)
The one I quoted of course...
By demo I meant example.
