View Full Version : Reason why WA weapons are missing in WA2?
Just wondering why there's less weapons than in WA. I mean i expected in the sequel to be more content than the original. Gona miss the granny, the homing bird thing, antigrav, and other things.
Not sure why take old weapons away and add some new ones which dont see that cool imo.
Was it a money thing or did you (asking team 17 this whole post really) find the old weapons went received as well as u thought so in the new game u just didn't bother moving em over, or what?
This game is a sequel to the 3rd generation 2D Worms games (Worms XBLA, Open Warfare 2).
While it is called "Worms 2: Armageddon" on the XBLA to be the correct sequel title to "Worms XBLA", it has been changed to "Worms Reloaded" for the PC version, so people don't get confused and think it's supposed to be a direct sequel to the old W:A.

While id like to see more weapons, you gotta admit most of the weapons were duplicates and 70% of them were never used in a real game.
No, that's not quite right. Worms Reloaded is in fact meant to be kind of a sequel of Armageddon, though it builds up rather on 3rd generation series.
IIRC, they said on facebook they didn't want to make people think Worms 2: Armageddon is an addon to Worms 2.

No, Worms Reloaded isn't the sequel to WA its just a new 2D game, its not the sequel to anything
"Ten years after Worms Armageddon, [...]" is what I see everywhere and that's a clear sign to me.

But it doesn't state its a sequel. States that after 10 years worms is back on PC..

If it were a sequel to anything, it would be World Party, released in 2001, the last 2D Worms game on PC.
WA was released in 1999, which is 11 years after, but last year at the time of announcement (remember that the game was called "Worms Decade" at first), the 10th anniversary obviously was nicer than to say '9 years after WWP".
The game is based on the recent 3rd generation 2D console Worms games (W2A, WOW2), and the term 'Reloaded' somewhat indicates the return on the PC platform.
I agree alot of weapons i never use but some of the vital ones have been left out or the more popular ones. I liked the bird weapon and could see the homing missile going instead as i never used that. Anti-grav was cool to knock opponents out of the map with say a super sheep blast under them if ledge was thin and he was in position near corner top of map so we could bump him out and drown.
Hmm a thing my mate does is knock i.e rope and let go and knock me into water etc. Will this be in the new worms game?
i<3worms:)

Some of the weapons may not be that important but the pigeon?? Seriously, how can anyone leave a weapon like the pigeon out of the new game?? Its beyond me :-(

It better be
Afaik, rope knocking was not in a beta. At least I never managed to knock someone :)
The fact that people say weapons are clones or hardly ever used in competitive gameplay... Well tbh I don't care, when playing with friends we used to love all those crazy weapons even the clones of the clones of the clones having a ****load of weapons was part of the magic that made this game.
Also mad cows, old lady, pigeon??? D:
Though it wasn't available as a weapon in OW2 it occured in a video sequence :) I laughed.

this sums my feelings perfectly. so what the pgieon wont be in reloaded? i may haveto cancel my preorder if thats the case as worms and pigeons go together like worms and dynamite.

There was no homing pigeon in the original Worms (1995).

A lot of the weapons were too similar or rare anyways (from the 65 total WA weapons you rarely saw more than the common 40, or a lot less in specialized schemes), and they were a lot more likely to ridiculously backfire in your face than get you out of that one tight spot that no other weapon would. :p
More weapons = more customization = more chances of stumbling upon a fun game type = new game type for everyone to enjoy!
I DO hope that T17 will add more weapons to W:R.
47 / 48 weapons are definitely disappointing when comparing it with Armageddon or World Party. And yes, some weapons in the older games were repetitive, but who cares?
And I can't imagine myself that implementing more weapons to the game is hard work for the devs. Especially because they actually have the stats & code of the weapons from their last games. :/
Well, just think about it, in W:A only were like three (?) homing missiles, only with slightly different stats. Well, classical missile, pidgeon, and magical bullet (and who knows if I didn't forget something). From airstrikes, I'll be only missing "Big Boss" (or what was his name), because he was pretty funny. Other were, again, more or less same (Sheep Strike = Carpet Strike, Mail Strike = (worse) Air Strike etc.).
And I am not sure about names, since I didn't play for like 4 years, but I am sure you guys know what I mean :)

Some of those are indeed blatant copies, but some also add to the variety. 48 normal weapons + 4 utilites sounds perfect to me, but I don't think that's the case. :(
