So a large portion of the older threads in this forum got completely deleted. Up until Last Post: May 2006, apparently.
Anyway, since it was spamming up Thurbo's art thread too much, and since you can't get more T17Forum-related than talking about the forum itself, I thought I'd make this thread to discuss it.
Or, more likely, discuss certain threads, events, and just "fond" memories you have of here from Ye Sorta-Olden Days. While scammering to the Wayback Machine and Google Cache for the last remains of any particular links and such.

Edit: the internet says yes you did. And the site you did has also gone kaput. Whoops!indeed. it was hosted by ThePope and maintained until spammers took it and ran rampant. I was no longer using it by that point except as a forum of discussion for some friends and T17 forumers, so he took it down.

Unfortunately it was a bit of a necessity to keep the forum working, due to many issues with the database corrupting itself (particularly the rather large attachments database...). I have asked volcadmin if it's possible to restore just the fanart forum, but don't hold your breath.

Those two are banned and banned members don't appear on the Member's List and hence don't yield results when you search for them.
Their posts still exist though.

Can't you run some sort of auto-cull that deletes attachments that haven't been downloaded for the last year or something?

Although then again...

Oh, so they are.
I could've sworn that they got banned around 2005/2006.

Also, while we're here, I really appreciate nobody bringing up Worms Fusion. Remember, that real-time game I was working on. Yeah...
That's not to say I regret it; it was a great learning experience, and a lot of equally-noobish people loved the whole thing anyway. But it's really something I want to keep behind me.

Then some other stuff happened. Then Team17 said he was taking the **** and banned him.

Man, I was the biggest n00b ever. I remember missing the point of Fan art entirely and thinking I just had to spam the forum with stuff. Almost all of the old stuff is gone from my machine too, but that's pretty good because I don't like it.

I don't "like" half the stuff I produce even today. I don't know how I can think something is terrible but keep producing it (actually wait, I stopped that too... I should probably put some closure on that, especially since the ending's sort of done and just kind of sitting around)

Me post

Okay, you can keep talking about K^2 now.

MtlAngelus
6 Jun 2010, 14:23
I wasn't around so... please, feel free to talk more about it

K^2 made a small program that let you convert maps from the Worms 4: Mayhem demo(and full game) into W3D maps, although it could only convert the poxel portion of the map, missing the heightmap portion which was a new thing in W4:M to allow maps to be larger*. This meant gimped maps, but still new maps for W3D users**. He posted this little program along with a few converted maps, again, taken from the demo. IIRC, this were maps that were hidden in a folder somewhere in the demo, but weren't playable in it. T17 then proceeded to delete the thread, saying distributing W4M maps online was illegal, which was crazy because those maps were in the freely available demo but whatever. K^2 didn't think much of that, and reposted the thread, except this time he only posted his program, which was 100% his own code, thus not quite illegal. T17 then proceeded to ban him.

Also bears mentioning that, from my perspective at least,T17 staff were never too fond of K^2. He had a knack of getting into discussions with them about their programming decision/skills. Other than that, K^2 was a great member on the community. Very useful, knowledgeable guy.

Another reason why I think this was idiotic is because when the W3D german demo was leaked, someone found that you could get all the weapons and do all sorts of stuff by hex editing the demo, and T17 even made a subforum for all discussions about tweaking the demo. I even remember some program that allowed you to customize which weapons you wanted to start with, posted in said subforum. This was, in my opinion, much more harmful to W3D than the map converter was to W4M.

--------------------------

*W3D maps were made of Poxels, basically sort of 3d Pixels, which allowed them to be completely destroyed, but also made them considerably small due to hardware limitations. W4M introduced heighmaps for the main ground of the map, giving less detailed destruction, but was less processor intensive and thus allowed larger maps. At least that's how I remember it, I may be using incorrect terms or I might be completely wrong, feel free to correct me. :p

**I should probably mention that when hyping W3D, T17 promised a map editor. It also bears mentioning that around this time, K^2 was working on a map editor himself.

Then T17 have him the custom status "Not a", so it showed "Not a mod". He then changed his avatar to display "Newbie", so it showed "Not a Newbie". He then got slapped the custom status "Permanent Newbie", and had his ability to change avatars revoked. :p

The thing about that guy is that he was(is?) a HUGE retard, constantly blabbing about things he had little to no knowledge of, often claiming it was others who were ignorant when it was painfully obvious he was bluffing his ass off. I mean, it's common for people on the internet to invent themselves a new persona, but this guy was absolutely delusional.

*bump*

Sooo.... anyone want to say what Hackerman was like here? what happened in the deleted posts that won't be seen again by any of us? i've read back through his history, including the flamewar that happened on a certain forum... and I agree that he did act like a big moron in the flamewar, and here, he didn't exactly act like a 24 year old, and did get mocked for some of his opinions... but what i'm asking is that as well as piracy, did he do any flaming. If so, how serious was it, and did he flame often.

Or, was he just banned for flaming and trolling.

Nope, he was banned for posting stuff about game piracy.

I guess he wasn't the super hacker he made himself out to be, as he never managed to hack the database and unban himself.
