yes, i think its necessary.....coz they havent perfected 3D yet (2D is almost perfected in my opinion)......but it looks like T17 dropped the 3D series....maybe the 3D worms games sells better.

I asked on Team 17's Youtube page about 3d. You can read the responses there.

Two responses were:
@Segatendo12 We find most of our fans want 2D games, so the next Worms game on PC is 2D. However that's not to say we have finished with 3D. :)

@Segatendo12 2D Worms is what the public wants and so it's what we are doing at least for the immediate future. I think it's a shame because Worms 4 in particular was a great game and we enjoyed making it. But the vast majority agree that 2D is best.

I was another who thoroughly enjoyed Worms 4 Mayhem on the Xbox. I really liked the 3D environment introduced in Worms 3D and felt Worms 4 was one of my favorite (if not favorite) games in the entire series. I would continue to play it, but with Live servers shutdown for the original Xbox, I now am limited to having friends physically present. I understand all the recent 2D editions and why the game has always and will always sell well in this format, but I still hold out hope for a true 3D sequel that will once again fill the void for Xbox Live. I would even be happy to see a remastered Worms 4 Mayhem (a la Worms 2: Armageddon) in HD on Live Arcade. Personally, that would be worth $20 to me.

Personally, I'd love to see a variation of Worms Forts with more balanced gameplay aspects, a lot of different buildings, and in space.
A bit like how Worms: A Space Oddity did it, and instead of different civilizations from different empires on Earth, have different civilizations from different planets and galaxies. And each planet would have different physics.

With silly futuristic-but-not-so-much weapons, it would be quite fun to play.

Absolutely! Also, if you did this, you should add a "conquer-the-whole-universe-single player-multiplayer mode" as in certain games like "Star Wars Battlefront".

Or maybe just a new 3D Worms not working like Worms Forts, would okay to me either. I'd really love to see having a racing game like Worms Battle Rally, or even another change in its genre?

I thought Worms 4 was great. Would love to see a 3D game for the PC, or maybe the PS3. I know the traditional games were in 2D, but this is 2010 - 5 years from Worms 4! I think it's time Team17 updated the 3D series. I mean c'mon, take full advantage of the X360's and PS3's graphics processors. Still seeing 2D games on those seems pretty odd, and I'm sure Team17 could make the next 3D game look great. Worms 4 had good graphics.

Worms 2: Armageddon is actually completely unrelated to Worms2 or Worms Armageddon. Team17 just decided to use a horribly confusing name for some reason.

Worms Forts with more balanced gameplay aspects
HAH, like that's going to happen! Worms Forts was reasonably fun, but there was next-to-no strategy involed. If you don't count the individual worms, it was all about trying to hit an always-stationary target from your always-stationary base. The only strategic element was in placing the buildings.

I mean c'mon, take full advantage of the X360's and PS3's graphics processors.
This IS one thing I'd like to see (aside from a new 3D game in general). Having smaller, finer poxels and making the terrain much less blocky, I mean. computer power has come a long way from the PS2!

The only strategic element was in placing the buildings.

I thought that was fine enough. You don't need a complicated concept to make a fun game.

The first game released on XBLA (and later PSN) was simply called "Worms".
In that sense, it's logical that the sequel has a '2' added. (Maybe something different than Armageddon would have been better.)

If anything was illogical, it was calling the game "Worms", like the original from 1995, in the first place.
For the other platforms they did come up with additional titles like "Open Warfare" or "Space Oddity", which can easily and quite distinguishably get 2s added for the sequels.

Except when it's, y'know, a strategy game.

Either way, I can't see the Worms Forts system working well enough to warrant a ne game.

(Maybe something different than Armageddon would have been better.)
That's an understatement if I've ever seen it!
I hadn't actually realised that that's where the "Worms 2" part of the name came from though (I kept forgetting it was called Worms, not WormsXBLA).

Yeah, it would be interesting to see what the game would look like too, what with all the higher definition graphics now.

Worms needs a little bit of change if it's going to work properly in 3D. We all saw how W3D and W4:M turned out - fun, in their way, but somehow crippled.

Because every time I go back to playing W4M (which is one of the games I go back to often), I find it fun every time. Even if I am playing it all by myself, which I do.. 70% (or more) of the time probably.

I think Worms 3D put people off trying Worms 4 Mayhem, which is a crying shame. For me and my wife Worms 4 Mayhem is the best of all the games because it's the one we go back to again and again. It's the one game where we wish there were more levels to complete or challenges etc. I've said this before, but it's all about the sense of freedom in 3D maps and the visuals and control of the characters. 2D just feels restricted in many ways and things feel more hit and miss (shotguns, sniper rifles etc). It's still fun in 2D, but 3D offers more scope to progress and the jump from Worms 3D to Mayhem was incredible.. Please please make another 3D game!

In my opinion, Worms 4 Mayhem was one of the greatest worms games. Although I haven't played many worms games, it has an amazing amount of detail put into it.

What I would like to see is an HD Worms 4 Mayhem with more hats / other equipments, more soundbanks (compared to Reloaded, it was quite lacking), more weapons and a new story mode, with an actual story. I loved Worms 4 Mayhem's storyline. :D

So apparently the Australian Classification Board rated a game called "Worms Ultimate Mayhem". This doesn't necessarily have to be related to the Team17 annelids at all and the information ain't too specific either.

...Bill? :p

Note that PG rating. Now watch it turn into an Age 10+ when it gets rated in America.

Correct PEGI rating is 12 and ESRB is 10+

I can't agree more. I play worms 4 mayhem with a friend at work during every break-time EVERY day! We think its vastly superior to 2d worms which i've purchased the latest 2d version from steam and its VERY MEH compared to Worms 4 Mayhem! I can't wait for them to release a new worms 3d with better physics and better weapsons and soundbanks! Perhaps buildings can actually crumble to the ground once damaged enough! Instead of things just floating.

Hmm. I hope it is 2D Worms for PC that will expand and perfect Worms: Reloaded because W:R has potential but was held back because of certain design decisions.

Either way if it is for PC and on Steam and not priced higher than W:R I'm sold (that is, unless same mistakes are repeated)!

For me best version is Worms 3d. Better sounds,Better music, Better effect, and worms model and physics.
Worms 4 is for Kids...
For me, it should be new Worms 3d with updates like new themes, maybe another map system, better quality models, and smaller limits for maps.

Yea, I LOVED worms 3D, played it countless hours.
Then Worms 4, it was fun but the global art direction of the game really turned me off.
As much as Worms 2 Armageddon in fact.
Or I'm just too used to generic shooters to like Worms anymore? Hope not.

I don't know, there's a slight chance it's going to be available as a physical release after some time has passed, similar to Worms Reloaded.

Doubt it, many games nowadays (excluding console games) are going to be digitally distributed or use some kind of program like Steam to play, you have to be online to play, check out Dark Spore from EA games to see what I mean. (it doesn't use Steam but it requires you to be online to play as it requires you to connect to EA's server's to play the game)

Future games for PC are going to be digitally distributed anyway, the days of physical distribution is now pretty much obsolete and out dated, it is also better for the game companies to make games distributed digitally to prevent piracy

Therefore DarkSpore cannot be pirated as EA's server will check out if your copy is legal or not, I think the same proportions will apply for WUM trough the use of Steam and I like this idea.

You might have also noticed that that kind of DRM, the "you have to be constantly connected" kind, is hated by a heckuva lotta people.

Luckily Steam isn't the "you have to be constantly connected" kind, you only have to be connected at least once.

It's been a while since I last played a game on Steam (even since HL2 original game) so I kind of forgot that you had to be online once, other then the fact you are forced to update the game before you play.

Armageddon and W4M all the way for me; my two favourite Worms games. I generally go back and play these two often, if I'm not playing GTA, Driver, WWE SvR or NFS...
