....and the obsession with already knowing exactly what you get is, what? ruins the surprise. I've got a list of like 40 things and just told everyone to pick something from the list.

How often do you end up with 40 of item 1, and none of items 2 - 40? :p

I suppose he makes sure that when someone makes a choice, they check it off of the list and pass it onto the next person (without him seeing the checked-off items of course)

I suppose he makes sure that when someone makes a choice, they check it off of the list and pass it onto the next person (without him seeing the checked-off items of course)it's actually an amazon list. when someone orders from amazon it auto-checks it off the list :p

and the only people with this list are my immediate family anyway, so they can easily coordinate who's getting what. if my friends get me something it's completely random **** they thought I'd find amusing, but nothing I actively desired to have. for instance, last year I got a stuffed black knight from monty python from a friend.

It depends on how you know. If you are told in advance then yes, it sucks. The funnest thing about getting presents is trying to find them before you receive them. :p
Back when I was a kid we(me and my brother mostly) would spend almost the entire two weeks before Christmas secretly searching every little crevice in our house and our grandparents house for our presents. Once we found a parrot and were like "no way that's for us". But yes, it was. Probably the craziest Christmas gift we ever got.

There's a simple solution to that problem.

Put the most expensive present as item #1!

Happy Easter! Here's the stuff I got for those that care;

- Some more Warhammer 40k stuff for my growing collection (specifically, a Space Marine Commander, a Space Marine Command Squad and a Space Marine Rhino transport tank), I can't wait to get started on them.
- A posh new digital watch.
- My own box of handkerchiefs. (I've needed some for ages).
- My own dressing gown.
- Some comedy CDs to listen to when I'm bored (specifically, epsidodes of Just a Minute, I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and The News Quiz, radio comedy shows for the true british gentlemen. Yes.).
- Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra (DVD).
- Chocolate (christmas wouldn't be christmas without it).
- ...And an electronic, touch-screen equiped sudoku machine. (I'm greatful for it as always, although (un)fortunately I have no interest in sudoku.)

... oh, and a sprained ankle, just this morning.

Amazingly, this is the first christmas in about eight years in which I have not recieved anything in the way of electronic games. I never thought this day would come.

I got a shirt, a sweater, an extra PS3 Dualshock Controller (finally I can play local multi with my friends who don't have a PS3), some various sweet foods, and the latest Discworld book, "Unseen Academicals". Enjoying it thoroughly. If you're a Pratchett fan, I recommend that you buy it ASAP. Highlights some very interesting philosophical issues as well as being funny as always.

Me and my brother got a PS3, with Brutal Legend, Assassin's Creed II, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted 2. On top of that I got a cushion. And then I bought a crud-load of games in the Steam Holiday sale.
