View Full Version : Feedback after playing first chapter
Awesome game. Bought it and loved it. Also 800 Points is a real good price, considering that I've been playing for about 60 Minutes and have 4 chapters and the coop mode still open.
Some things you might want to consider for the next episode:
Add some ingame communications/dialogue/monologue. It's kind of awkward, if my dude runs into a pack of huge alien spiders and doesn't have anything to say about it.
Keep the users camera angle after the small cut scenes. I get a bit confused if the camera is in another position after going back to the character.
So overall really nice game. Keep up the good work.

Do you mean "Do NOT revert camera angle to user angle after a cut scene"?
No the opposite. Do revert to the users camera angle.
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

I played the trial and I thought it was ok. Then again, it was short, did not have enough action in it, and i'm still getting the full game to see what its like.
Trying to get used to the gameplay too.

Thoughts....Love the 1st Episode and looking forward to the next Episode already, Ive only completed this game on veteran (twice) but not given elite ago yet mainly because i know ill get my ass handed to me lol!
The level of detail looks amazing and the comic strip cut scene voice actors fits the parts well, the storyline so far is exciting and dramatic,
plus Conrad and MIA are cool cant wait to see what happens next,
Great game for 800 microsoft points.
I haven't finished it yet but graphic are top notch (for arcade standards) as far as dynamic lighting concerns, and gameplay brings me back memories of the old series when you aren't using the R stick to aim. Weapons so far (haven't finished the game yet) feel right and are fun to use, even the gun.
I'd like to warn team 17 that the major drawback for some people that aren't giving it a go is the episodic release. They feel like it will be a must to spend another 800 + 800 points to get the whole game. As I said before I'm not finished it yet but I'm pretty sure it won't feel like "unfinished" and "missing parts" stuff but a good deal for my points and a nice standalone arcade by itself.
I assume the whole product is completed by now but really hope that you will made the episodic release a weapon of your own, something that will enhace the experience, instead of a fragmented "milk out the consumer" game. Not that much new stuff to call ep.2 a brand new game, it would be crazy of course, but enough to feel fresh and not just a plot add on.
I meant, I think I recall outdoor combat in alien breed. Maybe it was in alien breed 2 when you fight in a terraformed planed and sometimes you went outdoor... maybe it's just my poor memory that imagines things different that actually were. Anyway, why not having the leopold ship crash into a planet and fight inside teran colony buildings and outside ? What about having some new weapons in and some of the old (episode 1) unavaliable ? After all the colony hasn't to have access to all military stuff the ship had but instead some tools that could be used as weapons.
The most important thing to "fix" here is the main character itself. He's ok but way too generic. We've seen too many shaved-headed sci-fi heroes (mass effect, gears of war, fracture...) A way to fix it and "enhace" the episodic experience would be changing the main character a bit in each episode. Between ep. 1 and 2 he got his clothes teared here and there... o maybe he got a cap or a broken light armor from a marine's dead body... why don't make him cryogenic sleep for a while between 2 episodes so in the next he got beard ? that would give him the looks of a person who hadn't time to care about anything else than survivalism. And those are just few quick ideas... I'm sure team 17 will make the upcoming episodes worthy and not just "more story content for the already existing game".

I enjoyed this. Remember the old ABs fondly. Without the rose tinted glasses the old games were massively unforgiving. Whit I loved most was the aesthetic and atmosphere, including things like the sounds, "welcome to intex systems", and saving up money to buy a big flamethrower. Enough of the old.
Where to begin? I'll begin with the aesthetic. The game looks great. I quite like the new aliens, although i'd like to see more variety in the next episode. The main character, like someone said already, is hella generic.

Just let me play as a guy with freaking hair for once. I remember one of the old ABs you could choose between two chaps (with hair) and a couple of alien guys. That was sweet.
The guy's chunky glowy armour seems hella generic too, but that's a minor thing. With the space-hat on when he went outside it looked pretty awesome though.
Levels look really nice. No complaints about them. Plus the outside level was really atmospheric (although there was no atmosphere). Lots of sweet effects, like the smoke etc.
Sounds were good. I'd like it to tell me when my health is low though, like the old games. Not cool to get killed because you didn't realise your health was low. Also, i often missed the in game radio chat, and wish it had voices to go with the subtitles.
Gameplay is good. When i first played it, i picked easy mode, and thought the game sucked. It was too easy, didn't require concentration, and i just went from waypoint to waypoint clicking on panels and casually shooting aliens with whatever weapon i felt like using at the time. With the harder difficulty, you have to pay attention and take your time, and the game becomes much much better! I think maybe it you manage level one on easy and do it easily, the game might suggest to you that you play on medium.
I'd like there to be a practice, or arena style side mode. Sometimes you just want to mess around for five minutes, or try out the weapons, or test your shooting skills. Geometry Wars is great for this. Or say, Zombie Nazis in Call of Duty.
The story is neither here nor there for me. Not important. SO there's this bald guy who doesn't like synthetic persons, a bit like Ripley in Aliens. He has to shoot a bunch of aliens. OK.
It'd be cool to have an exoskeleton bit in the next episode. Think Exolon, mini powerloader. More firepower. More health. More aliens. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhj3Z9o6t0g
Maybe also a mode where you can control a remote sentry.

More Feedback!
To begin with I am having a great time with this game and can't wait for the next episodes to come out. I think that this is one of the top arcade games available on the xbox360 and hope you guys have great success with it.
Things I love: atmosphere/ setting, sound, graphics/ style, shooting controls. I just think the overall design is pretty much spot on.
Things I would like to see: MORE!!! I am greedy and just want more of this game. I wish there was more co-op for one thing. I don't see a big problem with making the whole campaign co-op. Personally I don't mind if the story is main character plus one.
A smooth camera rotation. The click to gradually swivel the camera around is awkward and slow.
I'll probably add to this list but I'm slacking at work right now and need to get going.

So I got the game. Its good, I still like worms way more but its good to see Team 17 doing new stuff, graphics are great, and 800 points is a pretty good price.
From the levels i've played so far, you must do a variety of objectives, while fighting the Aliens. Mostly activating control panels and stuff, its starting to get a bit repetetive, but its still fairly enjoyable.
Its not too hard either, though I can't see myself doing Elite mode for a while, i'm playing on Rookie since i've never played Alien Breed.
So far, 7/10, played 2 levels out of 5 so far.

More Feedback!

I would like this as well, holding down a bumper to smoothly rotate the camera probably wouldn't feel right.
I think the current weapon icon in the corner really needs to be updated. I can never tell the assault rifle and the flamethrower apart, or the shotgun and the pistol. I think giving each weapon graphic some really standout features would help me a great bit. Maybe even give each one a different color, unless you're married to that whole blue on blue scheme you got going on.
Great Episode. I think the price was just about right too. I think we got nearly 5 hours of play out of this on veteran. I still have to play on Elite for the achievements, as well as finding all the logs (missed ONE on Veteran)....
I think the game looks amazing! The sounds are really nice as well. I wish there was a little more variety on the enemies though. It wasn't bad, but a couple more couldn't have hurt hehe. The weapons were great as well. I don't have many issues with the game, just a little repetitive. I found myself knowing what was going to happen before I got to the next panel because it was like I've seen it all before on the previous level.
Approach this, activate, fails, activate something else, return... etc.
Still, overall, extremely happy with the purchase. I hope to play the rest of the episodes soon.
If anyone wants to see some game play, or on the fence, whatever, I've put up some game play on my youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/F34RTEHR34PER
The complete demo is on there, as well as some of the final level. I don't think there are any spoilers involved.
Great game T17!!!

Hi,
I'm a long time Team 17 and Alien Breed fan and spent many hours of my youth playing your games on my Amiga :)
Reading through this thread I only see positive comments and hoorays so I thought it's time to point out the bad things about this game:
- The level structure is dull and repetitive, all you do is go from one checkpoint to another, often multiple times to the same places, there is no searching and exploration involved, like in the original games.
- The camera isn't too great, like others have said a top down view would be better.
- The story is boring and the main character is charmless.
- All levels look the same and are generally to dark, more bright places and a little more variety would be nice (maybe fighting on the planets surface in the next episode?).
- The enemies don't look like the film Aliens anymore.
- A highscore mode which puts you in an endless level would be great after you beat the main game.
All this said I have to say I'm still happy that you made a sequel to Alien Breed after such a long time and don't regret buying the first episode. But imo the first two games were much more fun to play and if the evolution episodes 2 and 3 just offer more of the same like episode 1 I don't think I will buy them.

Yup it was weird and funny.

I somehow have to agree to this
