View Full Version : ***king chat window '' pinning ''

Ok seriously, what the hell is with this '' feature '' ?

Who's great idea was to add something this useless to the game, only to make the game unplayable ?

Since it's a problem, and doesn't happen to everyone, I posted it on the support section and I wish that someone could shed some light as to why it's happening to me.

.. First of all, when the chat window is pinned down, I can't use Up/Down arrows at all. And mind you, it only pins down while I'm playing my turn, so the chat window isn't even visible.

The reason why up/down arrows don't work is most likely because I can adjust the length of the chat window with them, but the chat window isn't even active when the problem happens, and if I then open the chat window, I see it's been pinned down ..

Question is : Why the hell does it pin down on itself while I'm playing my turn, when it's not even active ?

It has ruined many games until now and I can't express how much I'm ****ed off at this '' feature '' ..

I would assume it has something to do with my key assignations, but as far as I know, the chat window is pinned down with ctrl+page down right ? Well, I don't use page down so I don't see how it could pin down on it's own.
I do however use these keys : Arrow keys for moving, CTRL/W/D for Jump/Shoot/Backflip.

Since such key combinations would disable me from writing into chat properly, I've made it so that the script is disabled when I press page down, and enabled when I press page up .. But I don't know if this is related at all.

Any ideas what kind of key combination is causing this irritating problem or if there's something that I could turn off this '' feature '' with ?

.. No more W:A for me until this **** is fixed .. if it is.

As specified in the ReadMe, the chat is pinned by pressing Ctrl+PageDown. If you're not pressing Ctrl+PageDown, and considering that you're the first to report such a problem, it's most likely a problem with your keyboard, or some software on your computer that's sending keystrokes to W:A.

Up/Down arrows should work in-game if the chat is pinned and inactive. Ctrl+Up/Down adjusts the height of the chat window (regardless if it's pinned or just open).

If it's open/active and your turn comes around, arrow keys won't work till it is closed.

So you DO use page down then. And, since you also use Ctrl for jumping, I suggest that you are pressing Ctrl+PageDown but you're not aware of it.

Or he has sticky keys for command keys enabled.

Heartnet

Well.. I checked and I don't have sticky keys enabled.

I understand that CTRL+PageDown pins the chat, but when it's my turn and I use CTRL, it should be obvious I do not press PageDown, so I don't see how it could pin in the first place. ( Is it even possible to pin the chat if the chat is inactive ? )

Or even if it pinned down, as Cyber said .. up/down arrow keys should still be usable. Yet, they're not for some reason.. They'll only unlock if I unpin the chat.

I tested around abit and it doesn't seem that my CTRL gets stuck either, and since sticky keys are disabled I'm out of options. Note that I don't recall this happening about 6 months ago when I played last time, and I had the exactly same setup that I have currently now too.

The program I use for assigning keys is AutoHotKey if that matters.

I got another problem also that I'm just gonna throw into this thread as Cyber hasn't replied in the topic that someone else made :

When playing with other people online, usually none of their teams have any soundbanks, but only mine plays ( They can hear mine and theirs though ). My friend suggested that I should check if I actually have the all voice files in my installation folder / CD folder .. Could someone tell me where exactly can these be found ? My CD is old and scratched so it might not have all the data it should or something ..

Well, if you're willing to debug this problem further, I can write a WormKit module that logs keys as W:A sees them.

As for the other problem, I don't really know, but it could certainly be due to a damaged CD. Does the problem persist regardless of the soundbank you choose for your own team? Soundbanks are stored in W:\Data\User\Speech on the CD.

I can't wait for the Cybershadow is a hacker keylogger thread to pop up.

In fact, I think the problem *might* have something to do with my keyboard after all. I only tested it a bit earlier but the problem seems to happen only on an occasion .. As I was playing wfw just a bit ago, I encountered a problem twice where when I held W ( Shoot ) key and released, it would keep powering up.. As if the W key was stuck .. Although it wasn't physically, could this still be a problem with the keyboard ?

If there's a problem with the buttons getting stuck somehow, that would explain the pinned problem if the page down or something was held down without me knowning it. I tested out another keyboard and the problem wasn't there, but the keyboard I tested with isn't good for playing ... I need to try and find the receipt to return this keyboard ;_; .. I'll report back once i got it exchanged .. if I did .. since Im not sure of the location of the receipt.

As for the speech, the installation folder of W:A has only English folder in it's speech folder, but the CD shows up all of the files and they also play out nicely. I remember reading something about making the W:A read the files from HD instead of CD .. how exactly is this possible ?

However, which is confusing me even more is that if I change my team's soundbank to anything I like then it will play nicely while in game, but I still can't hear other players.. If the issue was actually in reading from the CD, how could it play my voicebank either ?

Copy the Speech folder on the CD into your User folder on the HD.

Done, and it works atleast offline. Haven't tried online yet. It doesn't work online. I can hear some peoples voicebanks but some's not. For example my friend's Irish voices are still muted and I do have that folder both on my CD and my User folder at W:A. Also the game I am at currently there are two other people who have the same problem. It seems it's certain voice files that are not played because the three of us can hear each another but not the fourth player ... What could be going on ?

I'll post some other problems below as it would be stupid to create new topic for each of these problems ;

But here we go.. more problems suddenly.. I can't get the water color editor to work anymore .. I create the Water file with the Editor and place it inside Data/Water/Blue+All other color folders .. and the water is still blue. What am I doing wrong.. it worked last time but not anymore as i copied whole Data folder from the CD to the WA directory >.<.

Also for some reason TeamED won't work anymore ? When I try to open or save a file with it, it just says invalid path and the whole program closes.. No matter where I try to save it.. the problem persists .. What's with all these weird problems I suddenly get D:.

Reinstall.

TeamED is due to a missing registry entry that W:A creates when installed.

Are you running the game via WormKit?

@Heartnet:
You should learn how to RTFM on your own.

Install WormKit and the FILEOVERRIDE module. Then, run WormKit instead of WA.exe.

I do however use these keys : Arrow keys for moving, CTRL/W/D for Jump/Shoot/Backflip.

Obviously you have used a key re-mapper, haven't you? You should mention that in the first place.

Heartnet

For the above post .. I didn't exactly say in the first post that I use AutoHotKey, but I did say that the script is disabled when chat is opened and vice versa. Already this should tell you what I've done.

And either way your comment helps me exactly how ? Wether I used keyremapper or not, how would you explain the page down being pushed along with CTRL to pin down the chat, when I didn't even touch the PgDw button ?

In fact, I don't see how your post contributes to the thread at all. All you did come here to tell me to '' read the ****ing manual '' and that thing about key-remapper, where you were the one who didn't '' read the ****ing opening post ''.

- SgtFusion. I tried with Wormkit and without but it doesn't work. With fileoverride it probably will ( Will try soon ), but it WORKED before I patched the game to .29 just by replacing the water file in the Water/Blue directory, and I wasn't using wormkit then either. Now it works after redownloading Wormkit from Cyber's site ( Was from BTP earlier ).

Lastly, what am I exactly supposed to do about the TeamED problem ?

@ Yakuza. Reinstall you say ? For what purpose ? It's not like it will fix anything. I've already stated that many other people I met in game also reported the problem with the sounds not playing correctly, and none of these other problems could be really fixed with reinstalling.

Those people all downloaded the same torrent. Poor them

Yeah go ahead and blame anyone who has problems with W:A that YOU don't that they downloaded a torrent. I already told you before that I own the legimate CD of the game.. It's up to you wether you believe me or not.. And seriously I could not care less.

If you can't help me with my problems or contribute to this thread at all, but instead just come here sprout your ****, then you'd better leave the topic alone.

So basically everyone that isn't here to spoon feed you past your problems should go **** themselves. That's a good way of going for asking for help.

No, but I hate it when people come accusing you of pirating a game just because they have some uncommon problems that YOU may not have ever heard of.

And for the TeamED.. How can the registry file be missing then ? If reinstalling W:A would re-create the registry file, how is it not in my folder in the first place ? And wouldn't it be just easier for someone like to.. upload it to here ? It's like 1kb most likely..

CyberShadow
24 Nov 2009, 23:02
but it WORKED before I patched the game to .29 just by replacing the water file in the Water/Blue directoryIt would also work if you were using a cracked executable... I don't understand why it would just work otherwise. The water data files aren't even supposed to be copied from the CD to the W:A directory. Was your CD version pre-updated to 3.6.28.0? If so, you may be a victim of software counterfeiting.

And for the TeamED.. How can the registry file be missing then ? If reinstalling W:A would re-create the registry file, how is it not in my folder in the first place ? And wouldn't it be just easier for someone like to.. upload it to here ? It's like 1kb most likely..

Hm. As far as I know, all genuine CD installers create the registry entry... But the Beta updaters create it too. The registry entry is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\Worms Armageddon\PATH, a REG_SZ containing the full path to W:A's directory, no trailing backslash.

Regarding the chat pinning problem, it would help if you could confirm whether or not it happens without AutoHotKey running at all.
